crunchtastic Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Excellent, *rubs hands together*, the Weingarten empire must fall. The story as I heard it... Wiengarten raised the rent again and Mandola decided he'd gather some investors (some long-time employess have some skin in it) and build instead, and the guys that own Ibiza/Catalan will open in the vacant RO center space. 1 Quote

An article today from Papercity Magazine on Gatsby's new seafood restaurant coming to 1212 Waugh Dr. "Those who travel the Waugh Drive corridor through Montrose on any regular basis have certainly noted that the Pept0-Bismol pink facade of the former Tony Mandola’s Seafood Kitchen has become a pristine white...Gatsby’s Steakhouse is expanding its local footprint with nightlife entrepreneur Luis Rangel poised to open Gatsby’s Seafood (Gatsby's Prime Seafood) in that former Tony Mandola’s restaurant space on Waugh Drive. Thus, the new paint job. Gatsby’s is expected to open in just a few weeks." https://www.papercitymag.com/restaurants/houston-restaurant-buzz-park-house-location-brasserie-19-patio-fight-ciel/ Quote

dbigtex56 Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 Where was this picture taken? I can't find anything similar on Google Maps for 1212 Waugh Drive. Also, are they installing that sign on the esplanade? Is that even legal? Quote
hindesky Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 Picture was taken on Waugh St., the sign is on their property, the tree they trimmed is on city property between the sidewalk and the curb. 2 Quote

IntheKnowHouston Posted August 27, 2023 Posted August 27, 2023 (edited) Gatsby's Prime Seafood at 1212 Waugh Dr is permanently closed. I don't know when the Montrose area restaurant closed its doors. Maybe the Gatsby's Prime Seafood closed a few weeks ago. There are posts promoting the restaurant's Houston Restaurant Weeks menu dating back two weeks ago on Facebook. However, the closure is not reflected on their Facebook page. It's also not reflected on Google Maps and Yelp. The closure of Gatsby's Prime Seafood is the second Gatsby Hospitality Group concept to shutter this year. Several months ago, Gatsby's Grill closed at 2929 Navigation Blvd, Suite 200. A new restaurant is set to open this week at at 1212 Waugh Dr. Ocean 12 is claiming Gatsby's Prime Seafood's former location. It's billed as a vibe dining / supperclub restaurant. Although there aren't any building permits, DBA filings, alcohol permits, or job postings for Ocean 12, there is an Instagram account. In recent weeks, Ocean 12 has taken over Gatsby's Prime Seafood's social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram). The former Gatsby's Prime Seafood Instagram is now Ocean 12. I get the impression Gatsby Hospitality Group has no involvement with Ocean 12, but I may be wrong. https://www.ocean12htx.com/ https://www.instagram.com/ocean.12.htx https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086563502137 Edited August 27, 2023 by IntheKnowHouston 1 Quote

As posted a few days ago, Ocean 12 is opening this week in the building previously home to Gatsby's Prime Seafood. According to CultureMap, Ocean 12 is a retooling of Gatsby's Prime Seafood. Honestly, from social media promotions of Ocean 12, it seems the retooling is more or less to cater to the African-American market. From the article: Shifting from traditional fine dining to vibe dining means that Ocean 12 will incorporate nightclub-style elements such as live entertainment from musicians and DJs. In addition, diners will be able to smoke hookah on its renovated patio that’s expected to debut when the weather cools off. https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/ocean-12-seafood-restaurant-vibe-dining-grand-opening-1/ 1 Quote
