samiamj
My friend told me that the Bally's in Rice Village is closing for good. Does anybody know why? I joined Ballys because of this location. Now there are no Ballys in the Loop. I feel cheated on my contract. I have noticed that the clientele numbers have declined since the 24 Hour in Midtown opened.

arisegundo
Wait...what? What about my membership there? I never received any notice.I'd call or stop by another Bally to get your membership transferred there. See if you can get an all-city membership out of them for your trouble.EDIT: Channel 13's storyThe three locations that will be closing are in the Rice Village off Dunstan near Kirby, the Village Place location and the Woodwinds location.Current customers will be upgraded to a nationwide membership. OkieEric
It's not on their website anymore. That location was why I had originally signed with Bally's to begin with years ago...but I switched to 24 hr fitness just before the midtown location opened. I recognize some people at 24 hr in midtown that used to be with Bally's, so I would assume that played a partBTW, anyone interested in a $15/mo premier Bally membership? I've kept it as a back-up for a while, but will definitely be dropping since the West U location has closed

The employees got word on Monday. They have already shorten their hours.I joined Bally's back in 99 and stuck with them mainly because I was getting a pretty good deal and there was usually one nearby. The one at Sawdust is really outdated. Rust on their machines, free weights weren't labled so you had to calculate or guess how much you were lifting. So I'm not surprised. My family met the chef while we celebrated a birthday at Lucy's Ethiopian on SW freeway---at that time he talked to us about his search for a suitable restaurant site and how he steered clear of "cursed" properties (he mentioned Taft at Westheimer) he told us he was CONSIDERING Thai Sticks on Montrose but guess he found a better site at Sushi Raku.

IntheKnowHouston
Local French restaurant Artisans recently announced it is moving from its longtime home at 3201 Louisiana St, Suite 110, located in the Mix @ Midtown. The restaurant is relocating to 5745 Westheimer Rd. According to leasing materials for the Mix @ Midtown, Artisans' unit will be available January 2023. So, it's likely the restaurant will close its Midtown location in December or January. The new location is expected to open in the summer of 2023. Shared on their social media platforms last week: "We will be relocating to our beautiful new space in the Galleria area in the summer of 2023. IntheKnowHouston
I think one of the available ground floor units at the Mix @ Midtown will become home to Paris Baguette. Paris Baguette is a very popular French-inspired bakery & cafe based in South Korea. There are outposts all over the globe, with a number of locations in the states - the bulk of which are in California, New Jersey, and New York. The reason I'm making the assumption of a Paris Baguette outpost at 3201 Louisiana St is there are available units in this development. One of the Houston-area franchisees bringing Paris Baguette to the Houston market is also the franchisee for all Houston area Jinya Ramen Bar and Gen Korean BBQ House restaurants (there are at least three Houston area franchisees opening Paris Baguette locations in the coming months around the Houston area). Both are tenants at the Mix @ Midtown. I've been keeping an eye on Paris Baguette entering the Houston market for a few years. After alerting local food media about a location planned for Spring Branch, I knew there were more on the way sooner or later. For months, I noticed an entity hinting at a Paris Baguette in Midtown tied to the Houston franchisee for Jinya and Gen Korean BBQ House. At the time, I couldn't think of any available spaces that could be home to a Paris Baguette. However, now there are available ground floor retail for lease. My guess is one of the units will be home to the restaurant. https://www.parisbaguette.com/ Edited November 3, 2022 by IntheKnowHouston
