  1. Send this Dallas weather back up there. I hate it. But... on the flip side... if we can get ice and not have to go to work tomorrow, I'd have a better 'tude. Stay warm folks.
  2. Don't get too excited about cold weather killing mosquitoes. Minnesota has mosquitoes the size of volkswagon's and it is friggin cold up there. I think that is an old myth. Mosquitoes will never die.
  3. No, folks in California don't laugh. L.A. and S.F. can't stand each other. Pretty typical for states with major metros.... each thinks their metros is better than the other. Anyhow, isn't Dallas 250 miles from Houston? 500 miles is a long stretch of highway even by Texas standards. I don't think there is insecurity in Dallas or Houston. I think it is a pride thing and that's not all bad.
  4. And that rough copper surface in Pennzoil's elevators rips clothes to shreds. I always tell new employees: be very careful in the elevators or lose that Talbots sweater in seconds. The round elevators in Pennzoil were replaced with a cool new surface, and I've heard that is going to happen with the high rise elevators there. I'm hopin'.
  5. Pride Houston has done so well on Westheimer and in June to boot. I don't mind change, but I don't ruin a good thing. Thanks for all your input, folks.
  6. You guys take some great pics. It is my New Year's resolution to get out and put some great photos of our GREAT city and metro. It is coming... just gotta get off my arse and stop watching sports long enough to do it. Thanks to you all for your sharing some very cool photos. Happy New Year.
  7. Hmmm... good reading. Thanks, JASON. It seems there is at least some interest in making something from nothing happen down there.
  8. Subdude, I read somewhere and I don't even remember, but it was recent, that downtown Houston's Hyatt was going to get a makeover. I'd think rooms, common areas and maybe even some outside updating. It hasn't been long since it did get renovated. But that industry is cutthroat. Gotta stay at the top of the totem pole. Besides, it is a great hotel that is smack dab in the middle of the City.
  9. I HATE cold whether and especially these BLASTS that last for a day or two. Hail to 90 degrees.... FOREVER. But it won't work here; so I'll learn to deal. How does 30 deg F appeal Mom loves the cold; dad and myself like it HOT ... me...................... Y ay summer,
  10. Actually, I think perhaps a light did fall on that unfortunate person. It was a few years back, but I believe that is what happened. Bummer.
  11. Great pics. You reveal the "real" Galveston. The upscale Galveston is another set of pictures. But I enjoy the "real" Galveston most of all. Of course, the new, upscale highrises will be another set of gorgeous photos. And the beach, we need lots of pics of the beach and/or bay when in Galveston. Thanks so much.
  12. sevfiv: thanks for your on the spot photos. You will be priceless in the next two years. We appreciate your sharing.
  13. I've been reading where they want to change the date of Gay Pride in 2008 to a cooler month and move it downtown. You guys have any input on this? My first take is "leave it alone; it ain't broke so don't fix it" .... but I've been thinking it might be a cool thing to implement. Please give me your opinions. I'm like a deer (or queer) in the headlights on this one.
  14. Mosaic looks like they are still working on upstairs patio and the front doors.... surely that entrance is going to be grand and not two glass doors. At any rate, Bayou Place is rockin' .... and good for H-town. We've got the Main street clubs and Bayou Place and "fixin'" to have Houston Pavs. Our Uptown Houston is already "the place" to be. But downtown has risen from nuttin' to be sumpin' and downtown has atmosphere and trend-setting hotels and clubs. Our city is now 2.2 million on the population charts. Good 4 us. Thanks, Dallas, too, for giving the Warwick a new theme and coolness: ZaZa Right outside one of the most beautiful fountains in the state.
  15. Great! My contribution - a shovel and a couple of bags of mulch. I do have a hoe and that ain't HO This is a great undertaking and I hope people really come out and participate. Trees rule!
  16. Yeah, I remember that horrible thing where the woman decided to play batman. But the walls in that hotel, well, you have to tip toe to see over. So obviously it was alcohol or sumpin' that made her feel she could fly down to the first floor. I think they should tear those half walls down and put in glass (top to bottom) so there would be no jumpin'. It is a pretty awesome view though. The glass elevators are totally cool.
  17. Here we go with predictions of sleet and ice pellets or whatever that winter stuff brings for Mon Tues Wed. Hopefully the weather guys are bored and get carried away. Realistically, it should be in the low to mid 30s and rain... my take. And I hope I am wrong because inclement weather days are so friggin rare in Houston that I can't imagine the last one (oh yeah, it was a flood in 2001). But you cold weather lovers, here it comes, right at cha. Have fun with it because I'll be cussin' until its over. Give me 73 balmy days ANY day.
  18. Energy Corridor is Houston's newest claim to fame. We not only have downtown, Uptown, Midtown, Greenway Plaza, Greenspoint, Woodlands ... jeez the list isn't even started ... but we have Energy Corridor where uber mega-energy companies provide campuses instead of single 40 or 50 story boxes. THey have several midrises that make it college-like environments. That's cool; work and live and play in your neighborhood... I'm a downtowner, but I can see how that environment would be totally workable.
  19. Victory is nice. Up-to-date and hot, hot, hot. And more impressive than our 70s Greenway Plaza. But I got to hand it to Dallas... you guys are NOT intimidated about building... you believe "build it and they will come" and by golly you are right. Of course, Houston has a building craze going on (mostly waterfront) but sprawl puts skyscrapers all over; but when it is said and done by the end of the decade, we'll be right there with the biggest and baddest cities. Good luck to Big D and try to stay warm. Good grief, 19 degrees. What is that??????? Seriously, I love Dal-Hou competitions: that makes Texas' two BIG ones duke it out. Dallas is (like Dallasboi said one time, give us a "run for the money"). In that situation, we both win. Stay warm boys 'n girlz.... there's an artic front a comin' >
  20. Just read where Houston's Hyatt is undergoing major renovations. With that huge atrium it isn't for the faint of heart. There was a time when Hyatt Houston was going to incorporate the defunct Sheraton across the street and almost double its size. However, with all the new hotels that popped up in downtown Houston since 2000, I think that plan went south. I like the Hyatt, though. But the Spindletop has been surrounded by skyscrapers, so the view isn't what it used to be.
  21. This is the first one and they started in Houston. Yes, the college seniors aren't the best of the best, but great talent out there. Tickets are as cheap as $25-$30 within the 20 yard lines. I hope it does well. I would like to see this bowl get better and actually have a bowl in Houston that makes an impression nationally. We'll see. I'm tempted to get tix and go over there and watch some good college talent. Since it is a new bowl, should be reaonably priced. But ESPN2 is free (well, in a subscription type of way). Link
  22. Most people in Houston don't even know this ... the College North/South Allstar game will be played at 11:15 a.m. tomorrow at Galena Park Stadium (Uvalde & Wallisville). This is a traditional game that brings lots of scouts and, of course, ESPN2. Then we have the Marathon on Sunday.
  23. Did any of you guys read the Chronicle column today suggesting that a downtown soccer venue would be the best for Houston and the Dynamo? I totally agree. And this Beckham thing... will bring the fans whether it is here or in Frisco. Except, I just don't like soccer. Gotta get therapy.
  24. Got my hands on HBJ. Picture the Sabine Lofts and you have an example of Asbury (boring). I was tempted to scan the picture and put out here, but I don't know about copyright laws. Therefore, I won't. But ... on a happier note ... Lighthouse Island in Clear Lake is beginning to be transformed into an upscale community with homes, condos, etc. The photo in HBJ with the sailboats docked and the lighthouse across the blue water makes me want to get into my 401k and purchase a place there. It will be absolutely awesome.
