  1. I guess it is me. However .... I don't think T-Mac will be the champion we hoped he would be. I think he is self-centered and lazy. It's probably just my thoughts. Anybody else think that way? Here he is 27 years old and thinking about retiring at 30. Give me a friggin' break.
  2. As explained in yesterday's article, the condo project would be really expensive because of underground parking costs associated with a project in that area. HP renderings are pretty much the same sans condo. This is going to be a good thing for downtown. Visitors attending George Brown Convention Center will have a lot more to do downtown within walking distance of their hotels.
  3. Yeah. Sometimes reality bites. But, I am on the optimistic side of most things. Then when they don't work out, I think "EZ come EZ go" I do believe HP will be built, but obviously changes are inevitable.
  4. The old Texaco building is a beautiful and ornate building. Weren't there rumors that a Ritz Carlton was going there at one time? I think I would prefer that to newer condos; although having both would be great. I think Texaco is pretty big. The Rice worked out quite well. I think Texaco could be a great lofts/condo place as well. I believe the parking garage across the street was Texaco's parking as well.
  5. There are a lot of professional teams playing in the burbs. It isn't uncommon. I prefer that Houston keeps the Dynamo in the city limits; I would like for the new stadium to be close to downtown, but I am not sure with land values that it is an option.
  6. Thanks, Red Scare. You always come up with the post of posts. Word! "Dawdling church laidies..."
  7. H O U S T O N D Y N A MO 2006 MLS CHAMPIONS!! It was a great day this weekend for Houston. Coogs, Owls, Dynamo, Texans, Rockets WON.
  8. Sales upfront will do the trick.... get those rich beeeeee atches out there and let 'em buy. The Huntingdon has served this area well. Now, its 21st Century. I think it will work, but you all know I am the eternal optimist. Eternal. Optimist. A million dollars is trash change in the oil patch...
  9. Actually, the bank gave me the $140 mil. and I am off to a foreign country. Houston Pavilions will happen and begin construction 2007. STOP worrying. It makes you old.........
  10. So, I take it, all systems go? A cool hotel palace at the Dome?
  11. Thanks scarface. Glad I am not the only one who reads HBJ etc. But.... they seem far more optimistic than some of these HAIFers. Time will tell. tick .... tick .... tick .....
  12. This Nov. 3rd article on downtown's new tenants is quite optimistic. HBJ
  13. Warren's folks. Cool. I used to go there for lunch at least once or twice a week. OK, it was Faye and the Chardonnay. It is a very cool place where most people know each other. Except their lunch is pretty lame.
  14. east West Loop South west East north .... woe is me. Probably to visitors it is hard to navigate here. But to me, it is very easy to navigate. But I have been here since 1972. Kind of grew up with the place.
  15. And Dallas folks talk about Houston's sprawl
  16. Stop the negative posts re: HP. $140 financing secured. So, with all that money, do you guys really think nothing will be built? Six restaurants and two major tenants already jumped into the HP project.
  17. Now let's think about this. There is a Rockets game on Sat. night. or an Astros game or an event in the area. You could go to the park early, get a good parking spot, enjoy one of the restaurants and enjoy your afternoon. Without this park, that wouldn't be an option. I think this is a great commitment to downtown and to the people of Houston. We are fortunate to have generous donations to building this park whether is is $52 or $93 million. Add the new construction to boot and we have something. The Houston Pavilions and new retail coming in can't hurt either. I look forward to all these projects. Downtown is going to be much better for all of them.
  18. Thanks, Kindaid. I agree. First, lining up six restaurants, a bowling alley and a jazz club is one thing. Next, comes putting together a package that includes apartments and retail. In a downtown that has grown, but not moved to the level where we want it to be, this will take some time. The financing ($140 mil.) has been secured. I guess where the other $60 mil. comes from is what they are working on at this time. Since Houstonians eat out more than any other city dwellers in the USA, those new restaurants will be filled with diners.
  19. It looks to me like they are building a BIG sales office that will attract fat wallets for their new tower. Nothing wrong with doin' it up right.
  20. 2112 does present a couple of "urban" shots. I loved them until I spotted by "office" in Pennzoil Tower and had to think about work tomorrow
  21. Lee Raymond... a little too humid down here on the gulf? Can't lick 'em, join 'em. Houston is The Place To Be for Energy companies.
  22. Turnberry is just getting started on this thing. NO, it isn't scrapped. I think we will see a world class high rise that will be the envy of many other cities. Not that it is unusual for H-town to have 40-story high rises; they are a dime a dozen here. I wouldn't give up my back yard with pool, spa and detached garage for that "urban" living; but lots of folks would. I might, give me a few years when I think about retirement. Otherwise, I'll keep my back yard paradise.
  23. Jeez, Red, you have my post right here in your hands. My friends who went to Texas Stadium came back with the same memories I did over a decade ago. Asbestos hanging from the rafters. Parking in the mud. Funky, buddy, funky. I love my Texans. Yeah, I do.
