  1. And underground parking is #1 on the priority list. I hate those above ground or surface lots. We're taking a bite out of this stuff.
  2. It will be a plus in Bayou Place. Verizon is there and concerts go on all the time. Hard Rock is anchored in Bayou Place. Then we will have Rocbar. If it is as cool as we assume it will be, those 30+ people will be rocking and rolling. Lots of construction on this project. I love Hard Rock's Haystack Salad, so I go there often for lunch. Also, it's great to get away from work and have a rockin' lunch as well. Plus, the house Chardonnay is great.
  3. I did not realize how many large oaks there were in that part of town. Great news that they are keeping them. Even greater, the park is getting built with underground parking.
  4. In fact, I passed by the Cathedral today and it was starting to look very nice. Thanks Niche for the reminder on this block. Slowly but surely.
  5. Still uncomfortable Tophy? With HP taking up three blocks, the new park approx. 7 or so blocks and the new 37 story One Park Center taking up a block, we are seeing over 10 blocks of downtown prime property being utilized. Kool.
  6. I can't say it is ugly or beautiful. It is there. I do remember and think that if it were built on another block, that I'd like it better. Seems to hide a magnificent view of downtown's other buildings somehow. Oh, well, let's don't worry about it.
  7. Should we go to Gallery Furniture to get $4 k worth of furniture with a tiny bit of chance we could get it free????? Hard decision for h'fella. Some insight here . . . pleeeeez...... Mom and Dad were noooooo....
  8. Actually, this tower is pretty awesome. It reflects power, greatness and America's Energy Capital so well. There isn't anything more intended; stop with the negative junk. We have the tallest building in the world outside a CBD. Houston, you are one big Mother..... I am so fortunte I get to be a part of it. H-town
  9. I don't have the Houston list alone. However, search the internet and I'll bet there is one out there. I love Houston too.
  10. I would have to agree with you. Too much money exchanged hands already. They will build this ... even tho delays are inevitable because of whatever.....
  11. The good old days. But those days are long gone. South Beach, the Mine, JRs, 611, Ripcord, etc. are the hot spots. Mary's probably is too (as long as its been there), but I don't go out much anymore. Montrose is awesome at any rate.
  12. My take: either it will get built or not. Bottom line is Houston will not drop into the abyss if it doesn't. But I believe HP will develop and be the catalyst that Houston needs. I'm positive great things are in store for our downtown. Especially since we have vacancy rates that are getting very, very low downtown.
  13. Oh yeah, oh yeah Speaking of "big companies that have their headquarters in the state", I got some numbers on the 2006 Fortune 500 today, and Texas has passed up NY for the first time - 56 to 55 - making us the big numero uno, ahead of even CA (52), a state with almost twice our population. Can you say "$60+ oil"? Houston is still a strong #2 with 23 to NYC's 44, and well ahead of #3 Atlanta(14), #4 Dallas (11), and #5 Chicago (10) (city list - everybody else 7 or below). Atlanta still lists BellSouth, which should get absorbed by San Antonio-based AT&T/SBC this year. Chicago, and Dallas for that matter, would have a whole lot more if you looked at their metro areas instead of just the city - but Houston still has almost half of Texas' total, with the rest spread in the "Texas Triangle" between DFW, San Antonio, and Round Rock (...um, I mean 'Austin').
  14. I know that's way cool as I have taken my little nephew 6 yrs old there once. Jeez, I'll have to take him back and again. But that's OK. Since we have such a terrific place for "Little Man," I won't mind. Houston does provide greatness beyond expectation.
  15. Thanks so much. At least some one knows what I am talking about. This is going to be quite a place (according to my sources) and quite frankly, with Verizon's great concerts and in the heart of the theater district, it will be welcomed. Any more info would be greatly appreciated. I haven't given up at all on Bayou Place.
  16. I am not a smoker, but it seems that couldn't a law be passed that would allow bars to be smoking or non-smoking. That way, non-smokers could stay away from that second hand smoke and smokers would be able to congregate and non-smokers who didn't mind could go to either.
  17. I don't know if this thread is somewhere out there on HAIF, but I found this on the Houston Business Journal site. Great news for downtown Houston. A company that size taking a 50-story tower will significantly reduce our already plummeting office vacancy. Let the new buildings begin to rise.
  18. This may be posted somewhere else, but I talked with Hard Rock Cafe folks and they say a very cool club is being built as we speak to the tune of two plus million next to Verizon. If this is somewhere on the board, I am sorry, but I was interested in the facts of this event. Anybody?
  19. At least this project is moving forward.... unlike some developers' dreams for nuttin' Go Moasaic! A Hermann Park reality; not a dream.
  20. OK. I'll buy the penthouse and red scare can buy the next 2nd highest priced condo. Then we'll have a great start. I'll only need $013248710293847102389470 ok never mind.... but I am optimistic that we will have a 2727.
  21. This one may get done. First, the Huntingdon is old. Secondly, River Oaks hasn't had another one quite in that league built. There is enough mega millionaires in Houston to buy into 2727. My fingers are crossed because it is such a beautiful design and location.
  22. Can they dye the water? Often? Interesting, but I don't think that would work. However, the green water has been real nice. A huge rain and it is muddy again.
  23. I noticed last night and yesterday how peaceful and beautiful the bayou is right now. Emerald and dark green waters sparkling from the lighting .... the people who put this together .... including mother nature .... my congratulations. Houston .... we have a great downtown venue. Let's use it.
  24. Richmond is the perfect choice (my 2 cents). I understand the construction process will be almost unbearable for those folks over there. But if they hang, they are going to have a beautiful rail system like the one going from downtown to Reliant in a few years. That will make that area very mobile and you can go from Galleria to lots of places. Now can you imagine tearing up Post Oak? This is about the downtown park and I'm totally pumped about this project. You'd be surprised how fast they can dig down there and get a garage done. In my area of town there were thick woods. In weeks they are pouring cement for a large school. I was amazed at how construction can be so fast.
  25. Dallas and Austin have the boyz. Houston is where the men are. Get hot or get out. Isn't that our motto? No ugly boys in Austin or Dallas ..... pleeeeezzzzzz..... oh yeah ..... but Ripcord will cool you off. Bloomingdales would definitely make it in Houston. Sorry it fizzled in dallas. A one-way ticket for you ....... care!!!!!!
