  1. 2727 Kirby's Smart Technology 2727 Kirby's beauty isn't skin deep. This from HBJ. Development goes high-tech with 'Smart Condo' system VIP Systems' "Smart Condo" technology is being incorporated in MDA Holdings LLC's 30-story The Residences and Estates at 2727 Kirby at River Oaks. The new VIP Concierge system will allow residents to wirelessly perform several automated features via a portable 7-inch touch screen located in a docking station in each residence. Through the handheld device, the building's services can be accessed via the Internet. Residents will be able to instruct the valet to deliver their vehicle, have their vehicle detailed, make a restaurant reservation, read the latest news and local weather, arrange dry cleaning services, as well as have visual and access control of visitors when they call at the gate and view any security camera on the property. "Our digital concierge system is so versatile and simple, that with a few minor modifications you can be out of town and still turn on or off your lights, allow your family and friends to enter your property, as well as allow you complete control of all your luxury amenities from inside the home, such as opening doors, activating and de-activating appliances and adjusting the thermostat," says James Gooch, vice president of VIP Systems.
  2. Getting a high draft pick only works for teams that know who to select. The Texans have botched the draft from day 1. David Carr has to go. He is the worst QB I have seen and there are some pretty bad ones out there.
  3. NY, SF, Philly, etc. were developed in the 1800s. Houston was barely breathing in the early 1900s. Yeah, we had a little something in the late 1800s, but the truth is Houston is a 20th century product. Now we are trying to make it a little more urban (here and there) and it is happening. Older cities have the people living over stores and walking to and from work and shopping was the thing. Newer cities happened to have Henry Ford stamped all over them. Houston is putting together lots of urban centers, not necessarily downtown, but collectively. I am looking forward to a more downtown urban-ness. The Rice started something. Now I'm hoping Discovery Green and One Park Tower will begin a trend for more upscale downtown living.
  4. No, the Houston Pavilions will be more upscale retail and restaurants. You won't be finding a Wendy's or a Taco Bell; however, you will be seeing Lucky Strike (cool bowling), House of Blues, and lots of restaurants that are trendy and some chains but not all. Downtown property values are such that upscale works best. Houston Pavilions is coming. 2007, I think, will be Houston's year to show off lots of new highrises, restaurants and downtown fun spots. Hey, we may break ground for the University Line.
  5. Has anyone noticed how many Houston based projects go up in Dallas and Dallas based companies building in Houston? None of us can say that Houston and Dallas aren't very interested financially in each metro area because that simply is not true. Those dollars stay in Texas when this happens which is profiting both Dallas and Houston. Good news! Take that you NY carpetbaggers.
  6. Can't leave out the Farmhouse! Loading Dock! And the bar that was before the Empire ... gosh, forgot the name.
  7. The Oilers have been gone for almost a decade. I am totally over that scene. The Houston Texans are our team. Yes, I was disappointed that they failed to draft Reggie Bush or at least Vince Young. We can't undo that situation. Ever. But we can move forward to get an O-line and if Carr keeps fumbling, stumbling and grumbling, get another QB. Change is inevitable for a team with 4 wins and three games to go.
  8. I don't know about all this highrise stuff... but if I were to guess, I'd think it is a high-end sales center. Probably model units designed to impress the rich and famous. But if it turns out to be a four story Wal-Mart in one of Houston's most expensive tracks of land, I will look real stupid. Anyhow, wouldn't be a first for me.
  9. OK. David Carr has not materialized as the "super" QB the Texans "thought" he would be. I have too been disappointed. This game will probably be the game that will put him on the trading block or make him respectable. At times, David is so accurate and wise. But the rest of the time, well, you guys watch the games. It is hard not to like Carr. But it is much harder watching him play like a girl. I love my team; wouldn't trade my Texans' gear for any other NFL team ... Houston .... we have a problem.
  10. A BIG thank you for pics. I think Houston has been ready for a 21st Century Huntingdon for a while. Never a doubt in my mind. 2727 Kirby is all that!
  11. Actually, as a PSL season ticket holder from Day 1, this Vince Young game is so important to me that I traded my two Hou-Tenn tickets for two great Nutcracker tickets (Wortham Center) so I can take my little nephew for his first time. I'll watch the game on TV. I don't feel emotional about this Vince Young thing. I would have preferred Reggie Bush. But what is done is done. Go Texans!
  12. Memories at Astroworld. ..... yes. BUt it is gone and thank God. It was a gang infested sack of nuttin' at the end. Houston can and will do better. I have escorted lots of out of towners to that place, but that was back in the day. Let's move forward. Hell, Six Flags in Dallas or Fiesta Texas will suffice.
  13. Hizz... I'm with ya on this. I LOVE the Mecom Fountain. It rocks. I just hope that Za Za thing works there. Warwick ... totally classy and totally Houston.
  14. I am getting eager to see renderings of the tower. Please hurry Turnberry. It could not be in a more beautiful setting.
  15. Houston is like 7th or sumpin sumpin That isn't including our adjacent met populations of over 100,00 which reflect Lake Charles, LA, Beaumont-Orange-Port Arthur and Bryan-College Station which vaults us way over 6 mil. BUt who cares? We are the most diverse city in Texas and the BEST. My Opinion ONLY!!!!
  16. Hey, dancin' in the park. Parks are supposed to make you feel good. Go ahead and dance: hear it now, "Down at the YMCA..." And 713 to 214, the park isn't even 1/8th finished yet. Does your crystal ball give you insight that we don't know about? Or is it that it happens in downtown Houston and not in downtown D ..... no I won't say it.
  17. As The Mosaic is under construction, I noticed a billboard showing the towers off I-45 close to on ramp downtown. The buildings are gorgeous. I totally believe this will be a very successful venture.
  18. Perhaps they were counting the number of New Orleans' incarcerated bad boys in Houston jails.
  19. You know what? Bob McNair has about as much leverage with his sorry football team as Bud Adams. He needs to be real quiet. Yes, I'm a Texans fan, and season ticketholder, but come on. It isn't all about Bob any more. Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo has a big stake in this entire thing as well. Personally, I would love to see the Dome renovated into a big inside hotel venue. Then when the rodeo people come to town, they would have a great place to stay in the park. Not to mention the dozens of other things that go on at Reliant Center that require people to stay in hotels. Think about it. There is not a nice hotel anywhere down there. Period. Plus, when speaking of nearly half a billion dollars going into this, surely they plan for renovations inside and out, plus greenery and aesthetics.
  20. Roman Coliseum: yeah, the bathrooms were great. Love that 7000 men had to grab 7000 ropes and open the ceiling.
  21. Welcome. You won't be disappointed in Houston. It is an exciting city that you can say "expect the unexpected" and it happens.
