  1. Yeah. We know about fast and quick growth in H-town. Uptown Houston's boasts .... don't get me started ..... but it is Texas' largest "Uptown" and we know it. Victory is cool. It is trendy. It is HOT HOT HOT. I am totally happy for that happening in Dallas. So, that all said, hang around. A lot more construction is going to happen in Dallas (more to come); and, Houston is totally a sleeping giant. Twin 30-story Mosaic towers on Hermann Park are rising, 2727 Kirby (30 stories on Kirby) is under construction; Endeavor 30 stories on the bay has reached the 10th floor already and there are many others on the Bay, Clear Lake and the Island; Turnberry is planning a ritzy highrise in the 42+ range in Uptown Houston. So all in all, Dal and Hou are puttin' on the Ritz. It is great for all of us. Right now, Dallas' Victory is the place. Ultimately, Houston will ante (is that the spelling? ) up and step to the plate. Let's stay together Dal/Hou. Unfortunately, Chicago and NY, with the size of the cities and the money there, can make us look like small potatoes. I'd rather be on the bayou tho because I can't imagine winter in Chi and NY. Happy Holidays Dallas. Happy Holidays Houston. Happy Holidays TEXAS. Enjoy our 70s in December.
  2. Real World what? Who gives a rat's behind what MTV does. MTV is an 80s thing and real people are off and doing their own things. Who sits at home watching MTV???? Jeez......... I guess some of you live for MTV. I haven't seen it in three years and don't wanna.
  3. Doesn't this type of thing make the 6 o'clock news practically every night in Houston? Yeah, it does. Unfortunately. But we are not alone in our suffering. Americans .... we gotta work on ourselves.
  4. Commute Houston and Dallas are vying for around 5th in worst traffic. Now, all those folks who say "Houston has no rail and yada yada yada ..... it seems to make little difference because New York and D.C. and Atlanta have lots of rail." Yet, Texas cities (Dallas has spent lots of money on rail and isn't better off than Houston in traffic); so, conclusion, it takes more than trains to move the masses. I am happy that Houston's HOV lanes move people and its 7.5 rail system is really used a lot. Yeah, we'll get more rail here, but Houston is far from being the worst in traffic. OK. That still doesn't make us happy when we sit on the fwy. after an accident and are cranky when we get home. But, hey, it could be worse. We could be NY, DC or Atlanta.
  5. No, the Houston Pavilions will be more upscale retail and restaurants. You won't be finding a Wendy's or a Taco Bell; however, you will be seeing Lucky Strike (cool bowling), House of Blues, and lots of restaurants that are trendy and some chains but not all. Downtown property values are such that upscale works best. Houston Pavilions is coming. 2007, I think, will be Houston's year to show off lots of new highrises, restaurants and downtown fun spots. Hey, we may break ground for the University Line.
  6. Has anyone noticed how many Houston based projects go up in Dallas and Dallas based companies building in Houston? None of us can say that Houston and Dallas aren't very interested financially in each metro area because that simply is not true. Those dollars stay in Texas when this happens which is profiting both Dallas and Houston. Good news! Take that you NY carpetbaggers.
  7. My 2 cents. In the 80s Houston solved a major problem for suburban commuters by building the HOV lanes on the major freeways. Now people from The Woodlands, Katy, Sugar Land ... etc ... can use Park n Ride and be downtown in 30 minutes or less in rush hour. That probably stalled the "we gotta get trains to the people" problem for time being. Think about it: when there is no rush hour, we get into our cars and drive to whatever local destination and park. Houston has parking and lots of it. The Los Angeleses and Houston's of the world are culturally automobile oriented; that won't change for decades (if ever). We do have 7.5 miles of light rail that has connected some very important parts of the city. It was expensive and the feds didn't help us whatsoever (thanks wrong way DeLay). We still need to move forward with rail and, hopefully that will begin before I die. But, in the meantime, vrroooommmm!!!!!! Top up or down?????
  8. trill, can you read? The first paragraph of my post: "That is one cool stadium. I like the design and the size. I am surprised it took the Dallas area that long to build a team for the most successful NFL franchise. The Cowboys earned this stadium with 8 trips to the Super Bowl, bringing home 5 rings. Texas Stadium has always been awful in my opinion; that one could have been so much better. Anyhow, good for the Dallas area and for Texas." Does this sound like I "hate" the stadium? Or does it sound like I was complimenting the stadium. Good grief, Dallas people's skins are very, very thin. Personally, we have no reason(s) to hate the stadium. We've been in the NFL's first retractable roof stadium since 2002. Good for the Cowboys. But I am a Texans' fan.
  9. Can't leave out the Farmhouse! Loading Dock! And the bar that was before the Empire ... gosh, forgot the name.
  10. That is one cool stadium. Anyhow, good for the Dallas area and for Texas. My question: the Houston Texans have far more season ticket holders than Dallas. Since Dallas usually has around 63,000 to 65,000 fans at the games, are they going to sell that many more season tickets to put 80,000 people in there? My guess is yes, since the venue will be new, a lot more interest will be in going to the games. There are quite a few Houstonians who have Cowboys tickets and have for years. (whatever ... we have to put up with that every year down here) OK. We've all been waiting for the name: Glory Hole Stadium.
  11. The Oilers have been gone for almost a decade. I am totally over that scene. The Houston Texans are our team. Yes, I was disappointed that they failed to draft Reggie Bush or at least Vince Young. We can't undo that situation. Ever. But we can move forward to get an O-line and if Carr keeps fumbling, stumbling and grumbling, get another QB. Change is inevitable for a team with 4 wins and three games to go.
  12. Yeah, Kemah is a "Coney Island" type of place. Not a full-fledged amusement park, but lots of rides, restaurants, boardwalk, bay, atmosphere etc. Put a coaster there. We'll all go.
  13. GREAT POST! I have learned this the hard way. I had some bad feelings because I thought the Metroplex to be smarmy and too much attitude. But the people up there are like we are: good Texas folks. I am going into 2007 with a positive Texas is the Best attitude. I hope Dal & Hou will be proud together as opposed to divisive. No, no Dr. Phil, you sound cool-headed and right. I just haven't been to any Dallas forums, but maybe I will. Happy Holidays to all. P.S. I apologize to anyone in Dallas I have offended because of "off the cuff" posts. I promise to be a good houstonfella.
  14. Wow. I knew there were lots of new construction in the way of subdivisions, etc. But I did not realize the shear numbers of homes that Galveston County was building. I am curious about the property taxes, etc. Are they a lot cheaper than Harris County?
  15. Agree. It is difficult to capture images that are pleasing to the eye. But .... I can't complain about these.
  16. I don't know about all this highrise stuff... but if I were to guess, I'd think it is a high-end sales center. Probably model units designed to impress the rich and famous. But if it turns out to be a four story Wal-Mart in one of Houston's most expensive tracks of land, I will look real stupid. Anyhow, wouldn't be a first for me.
  17. OK. David Carr has not materialized as the "super" QB the Texans "thought" he would be. I have too been disappointed. This game will probably be the game that will put him on the trading block or make him respectable. At times, David is so accurate and wise. But the rest of the time, well, you guys watch the games. It is hard not to like Carr. But it is much harder watching him play like a girl. I love my team; wouldn't trade my Texans' gear for any other NFL team ... Houston .... we have a problem.
  18. A BIG thank you for pics. I think Houston has been ready for a 21st Century Huntingdon for a while. Never a doubt in my mind. 2727 Kirby is all that!
  19. Great photos! I want a digital camera for Christmas. The W is beautiful. By the way Dallasboi, I was just asking about White Rock and someone posted the link. Hopefully you guys will get good weather for the marathon. I can't imagine running over 26 miles personally.
  20. Thanks TxDave. Great site. White Rock is a beautiful lake. Also, close in too.
  21. I always hate developers who begin with "beyond all expectations; this will be the yada yada yada of the nation" and all that. Then, nuttin' happens. Anyhow, good luck to that development. Houston has probably 25 in the works.
