  1. My local cult branch is near here, and I always feel eyes on me when we do our running rituals. I've been curious when this spooky building would finally get love. The area is nice and deserves some love.
  2. Yeah unless they build the exterior balcony portion. Take it from Norway to Chicago.
  3. Yes I remember cutting the picture out of the chronicle and pasting it in a notebook. "Hostile Architecture" is what the kids are calling it these days. It's meant to be uninviting to the public to avoid the unmentionables.
  4. Yikes. Some of the units look amazing and others would with cohesive or light colored dry wall. Having flashback cringe to the first time I saw the indoor malls of themed hotels in Las Vegas (Paris/Venetian). Or like a bomb shelter meant to replicate the surface. Hoping the finishing touches justify the rents.
  5. Look, in the grand scheme of things, nothing really matters, absolutely nothing. Including your counter opinion on historical buildings (Jk). What would we have if Downtown was all tower in the park style skyscrapers? No bars, no restaurants, just towers and tunnels? Wells Fargo & 1 Shell Plazas on every block. Destroying attractive buildings does not equal a good City. I can certainly agree the outcry for the specs strip center on Westheimer was a bit ridiculous. This Warehouse isn't particularly a beautiful gem, but the brick and façade give it character & charm. In a city as soulless as Houston, can you blame people for wanting to hold onto places that aren't a stucco palace? We all understand Capitalism. We all live with it, and we are all apart of it. However, letting developers do whatever they want for the dollar is not the way to go. In some cases, yes, build your Randal Davis/Destin Florida condo tower on the strip center. For the most part we need to keep these developments in check because without regulation we get exploitation.
  6. I really hope the BRT helps cut down transit time from our hood to the TMC (by avoiding Downtown to connect to the Red Line). It's currently +45 minutes to get there door to door.
  7. Minit-Man is okay, EaDo is not okay, Shine is decent but a trek out of our neighborhood. So is Aqua, and much more expensive. Best Hand Car Wash 2 on Del Monte is the best in the city. Not a single streak left on the windshield or rearview mirror. Plus it's not $75.00. That's what we need, a #3.
  8. The parking lot is gravel but it's a cool building and a unique opportunity if you're renting in the area..
  9. It could be a new permanent venue for year round Shen Yun. 3 things are certain in life. Death, Taxes, and Shen Yun.
  10. Nobody's going to mention how the apartment block pic looks like a self storage building? Not keen on Ribbed Tin/Sheet Metal as a building material (and mixed with wood), but the colors are refreshing and the design is cute.
  11. Guess I better sell my house before property values tank and head to the burbs. At least I'll get a pool? /s There are serious issues the city and communities need to address - crime, homelessness, and infrastructure. Guess we can include flooding in the last one. Anyways, it sucks we won't see what was planned come to life but we got one tower out of it.
  12. Hey, all Houston area Home Depots are top drawer compared to Gulfgate. I wonder where Lowe's will go? Their business model is to follow the depot.
  13. Oh, it's very walkable, if you live in Sawyer Heights lofts, or nearby apartments. The real trouble is the traffic and streets. It's congested AF. I certainly add to the car lines on Spring St. The area has densified from just warehouses and single family homes. It'll take time to grow. Unfortunately, we're not Dubai or Miami where we can just sprout condo buildings non-stop.
  14. What? Midtown is the place to be if you're a single 20-something. Midtown also has a ton of convenient things. Places like EaDo/East End doesn't - such as dentists, doctors offices, dermatology, Whole Foods, Randall's, multiple yoga studios, diverse and wide selection of restaurants & bars, gyms out the wazoo, close parks, Barbers, hair salons, banks, pharmacies, you know, the things people usually need in a neighborhood.
  15. I'm assuming a lot of this has to do with college? UT, A&M, Air Force Academy, CU, Texas Tech, so on and so forth? It seems like a low number for 4 years.
