  1. Count me in the natural landscaping. We don't need more plastic producing microplastics in our ecosystems.
  2. As Spec said it's a little higher per trip than that. As a bonus, if you need to use the bathroom, the train doesn't have to stop for you. Same for food. Also wouldn't taste as bad as airplane food. Not much Business in Dallas, but it would be great to take for weekend trips to see friends and go to events. Flying sucks pre-COVID and this would save so much time. I enjoy driving and road trips but not the stress of bad drivers or accidents. Or speeding tickets. When I visit Dallas I usually stay Downtown, and uber or DART where I can. All of the Hotels Downtown charge for parking over night so there's a plus as well.
  3. It's more subtle though. 1600 Smith Street & CenterPoint Energy Plaza have done a really good job. Wish 600 Travis would update the roof bulbs (they went from soft white to LED, but they still look dated). 700 Louisiana as well. So much potential to brighten the place up.
  4. There's a hundred-dollar word. I really hope no optometrists/ophthalmologists open an office there. Could you imagine having a dilated pupil and walking through the lobby?
  5. I circled the building a few times on Saturday and I'm really impressed with how it looks in person. The Gardens will grow in time and will add some needed organic beauty. The tunnel from the School looks great.
  6. Sorry y'all, didn't mean to derail the thread. Moving night skyline discussions.
  7. Gentrification is already creeping through Greater Eastwood and the lower portion of the 2nd Ward. Some of the older homes are up to +$400K. Interesting to see Magnolia & Pecan Park in the future. They border the POH and the Valero Refinery (Harrisburg/Manchester). Also the Lockwood Warehouse area north and south of the Bayou. Hwy 90 Alt/Cesar Chavez by the last stop of the Light Rail on Harrisburg is a dense, vibrant commercial area. Just hate to see some of the old buildings rot.
  8. I for one envy our bright LED neighbors to the north. Houston needs a little flash. How cool would Heritage Plaza's Mayan Pyramid look if they re-did the lights ala the Dallas Omni.
  9. I've noticed on the Citizen App there's quite a bit of stabbing/robbery going on in Midtown/Southern Downtown lately. Mostly around the Greyhound Station. The comments on this incident have residents complaining lol.
  10. I would like to see the city push and win for more business to consumer company relocations. B2B is king in Houston and while it's not as sexy as B2C, it still places our metropolitan GDP right behind DFW. Anything is a win at this point, honestly. Just like the mediocre buildings going up.
  11. Houston has been slowly absorbing more jobs from previous Maritime hot spots like Connecticut for a while now. It's cool to see a HQ move.
  12. So what's the plan for the western portion of the property (west of Martson)? Besides the one white box. I can't quite place it in the renderings. Thanks for the find Urb. Looks groovy.
  13. The amount of saved posts I had to scroll through lol. Reddit Post - Time Lapse of Sunset behind Downtown 38 miles away
  14. There was a post on reddit of Downtown from Smith Point. Only a few towers were visible due to the curvature of the earth (and was obviously with a strong lens). Pretty cool. Think that's the furthest I've seen a photograph of it from the ground that wasn't space/drone/plane.
  15. I think the reason people like it is because Houston has been spitting out the most monotonous structures... in a good project. When Hines gives us a unbalanced roof, or turning the tower base off the normal grid, we get super excited. It's all relative. Majority of the buildings have been okay or decent. The rest are boring or ugly. There's nothing exciting, there's nothing that would make it to a coffee table book.
  16. edit: wrong thread! The rendering is up on site. Hope we get some good little cafe.
  17. I wasn't going to try this place out because BBQ isn't enough to entice me. However, seeing Beer Garden on the sign will bring me in.
  18. Vandelay101, I appreciate you looking for some info but can you keep your requests to individual threads in the historic section? Thanks!
  19. It's a cool feeling seeing this interaction with the street. It goes against everything in the original vision. The contrast in glass is kind of ugly, but I guess I'll reserve judgements until it's complete with some greenery.
  20. It looks very odd, but they could have done something better than the stark/tall garage wall. At least the apartments adjacent covered their garage with a little civility and grace. The only thing that screams Houston more than this is San Felipe Plaza.
