Texas Tower: Office Skyscraper At 845 Texas Ave.
Montrose1100 replied to democide's topic in Downtown
That's a really big shame. I was hoping for a nice restaurant here to admire the street and nearby buildings after dark. But look at the Allen Center, despite the reno, it's still a fortress with one entry to the restaurant after business hours.- 2,217 replies

It also mentions podium parking at 5 stories. I'm interested to see how this will look. It's a huge lot for just 50 units. Fingers crossed for the green lawn still making it in the final product.

Is it the technology or is it wind and environmental damage? I know the cheap self adhesive ones you buy are delicate, but I've never seen the all the bridges completely working or changing to the right color at the same time. It did a few years ago during the revamp, but continues to get worse. The strips can mess up but what about the spot lights that are encased? How do those fail? I know you don't have the answers to this. It's just so strange cities in China, Dallas, New York, can master LEDs simultaneously on different buildings or structures and we can't do a few small bridges.

The Allen: Mixed-Use Development At Allen Parkway & Gillette St.

Thanks again for all the pics @cityliving. Just pointing out the Anadarko Towers in the background. I think I can even make out that radio tower in Spring. Awesome!- 1,658 replies

Great Shots cityliving. Yesterday was beautiful and clear. I don't think I've noticed that power plan off hwy 90 before.

Yeah 59 looks pretty bad. The overgrown vines are brown and the LEDs are messed up on each Bridge. The City needs to think of solutions that require very little maintenance since they don't do any at all.

Not that I'm aware - Because the Hostel or Hotel is going up across the street. -
Proposed Townhomes On Sampson St.
Montrose1100 replied to ljchou's topic in EaDo, the East End, and East Houston
Is this the block bound by Sampson, Harrisburg, York and Texas? -
I exited Hamilton on Saturday because everyone and their mom was on a freeway this weekend. Then I diverted down Franklin because of this bad boy. Also saw the Train at 3303 Navigation.

Discovery West: Mixed-Use Development Downtown By Skanska

I'm just kidding around Response. I'd much rather Houston have a healthy stock of safe and boring than sad and ugly.- 1,096 replies

Really depends on your budget. The closer you get to the Greyhound Station to more crime pops up on the citizen app, but the area is changing. There's life on that side during the weekends. One Park Place with Phoenicia at your door step would be a ideal... also expensive. I bought some random cold cuts there and I still dream about them. If you like lounge bars the Four Seasons is right there along with a few eateries within a few blocks. Green Street is dead on the weekends, even the restaurants, which might be due to Covid. Discovery Green is lively and the Houston Center renos will also help. The Market Square area would be nice too since Main Street has a lot of buzz. Have you looked at Hannover Rice Village? All the retail and restaurants at your front door and very much within walking distance. Close enough to get to the Galleria area. If you need to commute to the West Loop I wouldn't recommend the East End. We have an onramp at Cullen to get on 59, but everything you need is 15 minute car ride away. I can walk to a few bars and restaurants, also to 2 light rail stations. However, the freight trains are loud and blast all night long. Were you ever in Houston, specifically the Washington corridor in the late 90s/early 00s? Area kind of reminds me of that. It's not much now but will be with time. You can't go wrong in the lower Montrose/Museum District, it's just a bit more quiet. Whatever you chose I do not recommend a property run by Greystar.

Discovery West: Mixed-Use Development Downtown By Skanska
Montrose1100 replied to Moore713's topic in Going Up!
It's really all bad. The Palm trees are brown, the recycled designs are boring, and the security guards of Houston Center are arguing with me on IG. I'm mostly playing around. I'm Houston's biggest fan and hater.- 1,096 replies

Discovery West: Mixed-Use Development Downtown By Skanska
Montrose1100 replied to Moore713's topic in Going Up!
Does 2 Houston Center just absolutely do it for you two? We have the most boring and safe architecture. The rest of the world gets something new and exciting and we here in Cowtown yell at it to get off our lawn. DARN KIDS.- 1,096 replies

Toured one of them 2 years ago and reeked of Mary J. The views were great, small but good price, and the location was cool. Felt more like a Dorm though. Given you're used to the city with all the sights, sounds, and smells it brings - I'd chose Downtown. Left the westside for the East End, and I love being close Downtown. Montrose, Midtown, Museum District, Heights, Rice Village, Upper Kirby, everything great about the inner west loop is so close. Traffic in Uptown sucks so bad and everything feels further away. Being able to hop on the light rail is nice too.

The Crossfit gym on the same block will likely provide a better wake up call than the trains. -

Waterline: Mixed-Use Building to be Tallest Tower In Texas
Montrose1100 replied to Urbannizer's topic in Austin
This one is fresh and it's modern, but for Texas' new tallest, I'm disappointed. Would look great complimenting an iconic piece like the Petronas Towers, Willis Tower, Freedom Tower, or the Burj Khalifa. The base is also this giant plateau. And why do mixed-use buildings have to ensure the onlookers know that each use is clearly displayed & separated in the design? -
Fitzcarraldo - 3517 Navigation Blvd.
Montrose1100 replied to ljchou's topic in EaDo, the East End, and East Houston
I hope they keep the pillars of eternity. -
It looks like you're on the sidewalk. The photo above looks to be from on the plaza/private property. As others have mentioned I don't get why someone would want to create such a photogenic space and yet discourage it. It's free advertising. If you create a destination people will come and even spend money. Houston Center is really the only complex Downtown that is poised to create a street facing retail destination. Green Street is a whacky layout and a missed opportunity. The Fortresses of Louisiana & Smith Street aren't changing much. Main Street is a food and alcohol destination. The Skanska development is years and years away. Anyway, sorry for the rant, thanks for sharing the picture.
