Allbrittons Cafeterias At 3835 Bellaire Blvd.

What are they trying to communicate with "your calories are counted"? That you won't get shorted food? Interesting cultural shift over time because that is never a concern anymore. -

Had the "bodega sandwich" on Sunday morning. Eggs, bacon, and a slightly spicy sauce on brioche for $7 and it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in recent memory! Hung around and lots of customers! -

Wowowow! This looks great. Great re-use of the building. Renderings look really nice. -
Pedestrian Crossings on Studewood St.
wilcal replied to bookey23's topic in Traffic and Transportation
Pedestrians have the right-of-way at all marked and unmarked crosswalks. If there is a signaling device (green man/flashing hand) then pedestrians must follow those. Only vehicles on your side of the street have to Pedestrians are allowed to cross streets not an an intersection/crosswalk, but they do not have the right-of-way and must yield to vehicles. (See Sec. 552.005) As the law mentions, you must give vehicles enough time to slow down to facilitate your safe crossing. Yes, pedestrians have to actually attempt to be crossing the road in order for vehicles to have to yield, but they do not need to wait for a vehicle to stop unless it is not possible for the vehicle to stop to allow them to cross. If a pedestrian is just standing on the side of the road, vehicles don't have to stop of course. If someone is attempting to make a crossing then vehicles must yield if they can safely do so. -
This plat has not been recorded yet, so I wouldn't expect any breaking of ground until 1Q23 at the earliest.

Stopped by on my bike to work this morning and grabbed some pastries for our meeting. They were good! Good reviews. Tops were the blueberry muffin and pumpkin loaf. Great texture on the scone. Also, evidently B-Cycle is working on installing a location here which is great. In the 5-10 minutes I was hanging around, two different people who were walking their dogs on the Columbia Tap wandered over to check it out. They said that they would be adding on their lunch menu and staying open until 3 starting early November. -

It looks so nice! I saw that their Instagram started posting daily about a week ago. This is on my bike-to-work route so looking forward to being a regular. Edit: their insta says that their next open time will be 7-11am on Wed -
Their GP received a variance to not extend Drennan. They proposed building a street that runs along the southern edge of the property. Some form of interior road would connect to get to that one to extend to Lockwood. Other proposed site amenities include 60 units of senior housing, another apartment building between this one and the bayou, 63 rowhouses, 26 single family homes, commercial, and some amenities/parking.

They are required to publish it on city hall a few days before as well. I work nearby so let me know if you need me to walk over and take a pic of the notice 😄

I'm not an expert on this, but I believe that there is grant funding that becomes available at some point when there is a serious injury/fatality. -
Also, not sure why they are doing a 25' BL along the northern edge. Only a 10' is required for reserves along a minor collector.

I believe the entire line will end up with a dedicated lane just for the BRT line, so almost all of it will need to be rebuilt. If you watch this video it will show you what the configuration is currently planned as:

I have a friend that works at HCC and had them ask and it is a park/plaza/basketball court. I believe this is not designed to be an HCC-only facility, but for public use.

Last weekend I was riding along Buffalo Bayou and there were a bunch of pleasure craft tied up along Allen's Landing. Evidently privately owned leisure boats are not allowed along the ship channel, but this group has been able to get a waiver once a year. I do think East River had talked about doing a ferry to downtown at one point but they more recently mentioned adding some kind of street car I believe.

They are building a structurally sound bank. On the smallest barge are big pieces of metal that they drive into the ground (you can see that happening along the bank). I'm guessing they are driving in fill dart to fill behind using that ramp.

They did not record their plat from last August, but they did submit an extension of approval giving them another year to do so. They received a parking variance, but that is specifically tied to the originally proposed use (restaurants). I believe that they are free to record the plat, which was proposed as an unrestricted reserve and build multi-family if they want. It is kind of sad that restaurants may not happen here, but I'm totally ok with more (and dense) residential.

I don't have an update YET, but I listed to the EaDo TIRZ meeting this week, and they said that they didn't know either, but had a meeting with the developer in the next week or two and were going to find out.
