  1. I imported a Kei truck from Japan last year and shipped it via Ro-ro to Freeport! That is interesting that they are exporting that many vehicles. I wouldn't have guessed.
  2. Fun fact: Houston's historical districts don't actually regulate land-use because that would be zoning. They just regulate appropriateness. Granted, there are a boat-load of deed restrictions which require single family residential, so what you are saying is effectively true.
  3. Eight Row Flint concept to open a second location here https://www.houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/restaurants-bars/article/Eight-Row-Flint-to-open-second-bar-in-East-17382298.php
  4. Grabbed some ice cream last night around 9 and some decent levels of activity! FYI, Van Leeuwen is doing $3 scoops between 3 and 7 during August, and on Tuesdays all day you get a free topping.
  5. I liked it, too. Was cool that it was designed around train access. Wife and I bought about 1/4 mile from here. I'm excited about 20 more upper middle class incomes to add to HEB's sales calculator. The East End is really starting to step on the gas. Not sure if you saw the thread about The Mill (Canal @ Navigation) but the existing big black apartment complex filled up in 9 months after they opened. Pretty impressive.
  6. Hell yes. This site had been for sale for awhile and was replatted this year into 20 lots just under 2k SF on 18' shared driveways. The other new homes just to the south have been selling really well evidently, so I'm sure these will move quickly.
  7. No, the rail line is at the top of this image. North is to the RIGHT. (edited) The distance from the rail to the new street in the middle of the project (the approx width of the multifamily project) is a little under 300' Damn! No wonder this project is moving forward.
  8. It certainly isn't hard to look at all of the empty retail/lots a block away along Tuam. It is understandable why they didn't add GFR and I agree probably the best case scenario would have been coffee. We are finally starting to see at least a little bit of momentum at Tuam/Genesee.
  9. Rode by yesterday and saw that they just painted over the Barkley's mural with white paint. Hopefully they replace it with something new.
  10. Cool! Looks like they are having to do a public hearing because the panhandle was originally platted as being part of those townhomes to the east so they had single family restrictions. I can't imagine that this would be only parking.
  11. Yep! Also, this was approved by the planning commission on Thursday. I'm guessing that this will be a project they work on during the off-season. Nice to see TOD allowing some positive change. Unfortunately, primary TOD ends right here and the Shipra projects across the street are secondary, so they can choose to opt-in or not.
  12. I'm still making efforts to have this fixed. We'll see! They've actually been paying off-duty police officers to guard the vehicles overnight.
  13. *7 unit. Don't forget the 10/17 along the Columbia Tap. That was the variance that they requested, was for a 0' BL. I don't think that they ended up doing a variance. The plat that they recorded was approved a few weeks before the date listed above.
  14. Exactly. Some people like eating at Olive Garden and some people like eating at restaurants.
  15. If this was a park and ride with no local connection service, then fine, but this is a transit center with numerous connecting local lines. Where do these people live that are needing to drive to this transit center so they can take the light rail into town? Also, remember that they charge for the parking lot at the other end of the light rail!
  16. I can't find the exact post, but @Houston19514manually tabulated the numbers inside 610. It went from 454,102 to 504,489 for 2010 to 2020 census.
  17. I asked METRO last year about this project and why they needed to spend tens of millions on a parking garage when so many bus stations don't even have benches. (no real answer given) They are also paying for a new traffic light on the basis of the increased traffic for their 500 parking spot garage. At the time, there were no plans to even harge for parking in this garage. Love having our transit agency subsidize car drivers.
  18. This was one of the most requested projects in the East End Bike Plan. It is going to be expensive because the rail has to be removed, but the ROW is large and there is plenty of room for bike infrastructure and street parking IIRC. I don't think there are imminent plans, but this is a high priority section.
  19. Jaywalking isn't illegal in Texas. You just don't have the right of way 👍
  20. Huh. I wonder how this is going to happen, as right now you are limited to doing two dwelling units on a lot. I wonder if they are going to wait for Livable Places to pass which would allow for more flexibility. Either way, this has some really cool potential. The back yard space with the building designed like that would be really large. Will def keep an eye on this one.
  21. Nice to see another theater going in, even if it is only a few thousand square feet.
  22. If they actually build proper curbs, a whole bunch of "street parking" is going to disappear that should have never really been allowed in the first place. Also, part of Fairview is open ditch (by George) and some of these curb cuts are terrible. Pretty sure Fairview has 10' lanes, so I hope they just draw that line all of the way down and do new curbs and improve the pedestrian realm as much as they can.
  23. They had a table at the big monthly car show at The POST a few weeks ago. Will be interesting to see how this fares. I have a friend that has been looking at options near the Heights and basically you are looking at $300-$500/month at a place with on-site staff. People that own extra sports cars tend to want to keep them close, so it is kind of tricky to place facilities like these. You push them out into the suburbs and people tend to have larger garages. You keep them closer to the high $ inner city and land values go way up.
  24. If it is like Fairview west of Montrose, they won't be doing any sidewalks.
