Oh ok, so this sounds like a new structure / facility needs to be built. Do we have a location on that new center?

Don't worry guys - they have to get organized to construct. tons of things need to be done before they can start... I thought this was going to be 30+ stories... was it always supposed to be only 24?

is 50 a resonable guess? Or is there more / less? How many were up in the 1980's?

Kind of the way life happens. I have a construction project in my back yard, and we are very delayed!! and this is just a guest house. So God only knows all the things that could happen to a project... But our market is strong, and I don't think we should worry too much. At the end of the the day, maybe 80% of these will happen. And thats a pretty good percentage... NYC has tons on tons of projects proopesed and many never happen... Just think of Freedom tower... its taken over 1 decade... and this probably had a lot of pressure to get done.

Look closer - this to me is a great representation of Historic design in modern form. I think it looks very good.

I doubt it. I think the people living in that area have seen (or should see) the writing on the wall. There are already towers on Kirby. There will be more. Fighting this will cost them time, money, and they will lose.

Thats what I meant. Not 8 floors like they are saying...
-
Am I dumb, or do I only count 8 here?

NO! The current court site would be the only realistic spot because it is already there! Take a look at google Earth or something dude...

I think it will be stone / limestone type... That with maybe a mixture of some brick... judging on the renderings

Where is this exactly?

I am going to send the opposite. I am for them using this site for Police Headquarters - because I believe they should be in the center of the city, and their current situation is deplorable. Sure, it would be nice to have residential there, but I am not being unrealistic expecting everything downtown HAS to be a residential unit. The site isn't as glorious as you may think. That all being said, I am not opposed to using another site just North or just East of downtown.

It is a matter of time before everything inside the loop becomes mid / high rises... Houston is a big city. land value won't be going down anytime (trend is up). Ashby highrise will be followed by others. If you havent noticed, all the cheap construction / cheap apartment buildings / townhouses end up becoming devalued - and developers see this as a brilliant flag of opportunity; and come in. The previous apartments weren't good... yet they were younger than many of the other homes surrounding. I think this building is beautiful, and I hope it goes up.

This can't be right... They cannot be on tap to pay damages to whoever wants to file a claim... that is outrageous. What I took from it is: They have to pay damages either way, now, and they can build. Green light in my mind. Just an added 1.7 million dollar cost (for damages).

You know - I wish the materials were better (real brick / stone), but at the same time... this building was farther gone than we thought... and we are lucky to have a reincarnated version of this building.

The site is not an improvement. a necessity to continue the function of the current structures while the new ones are being built. Once they are completed, the old one's structure will have no function any longer. It has little to do with the post office site being more ideal for court / police functions, and moreso a matter of simple economics and timing. It seems like the city wants to keep the "justice center" as close to downtown as possible. To me, the KBR site seems better, but may already be spoken for? a few blocks North or East of downtown are really the only other options...
