  1. You can find place in downtown that rents for a little over $1 per sq. ft. right now. My friend has 600 - 700 sq. ft. efficiency and is paying a little over $700. I wouldn't pay more than $500 a month for that small place - this isn't NY. I could see those prices if the demand is there...but we aren't there yet.
  2. My sources also state MBar will become an upscale restaraunt with live music - kind of like a Sambuca. Downtown is on the right track with the new park and Houston Pavilions, so now we will have to wait and see. I agree downtown needs more residents, but downtown used to do pretty well back in early 2000. What will it take to bring more people living downtown? That has been discussed over and over again... I rent downtown and would strongly consider buy a loft around here if I could find one a little more affordable.
  3. I believe channel 13 has a live HD helicopter traffic report. I don't really see the need to advertise an HD traffic report, but whatever...
  4. Hello HAIF, I'm looking for some information regarding and old motel located just outside of the world-famous Texas Medical Center. The motel was called Hospitality Inn Astroworld located at 8700 South Main Street. Does anyone have any postcards, or photographs of this building? Did anybody from HAIF actually visit here? I am interested in hearing your stories! Please chime in, Thanks.
  5. I miss Craig Roberts. That guy was informative and kind of funny too.
  6. Warren's/Charbar/etc.. will always be around because they don't cater towards the "trendy" crowd. Although 12 Spot did close. Slainte used to be great, but as Ricco stated, the place has gon downhill...most likely becuase of the way it's managed. I used to visit Slainte 2 -3 times a week a couple of years ago. They had great food and a good bar dowstairs and club upstairs. Now it's just dead. It looks like downtown is going through a wierd transition phase right now. I think it will pick back up in about a year.
  7. Are you refering to New Yorker's too cheap to pay for parking? I hear they pay some pretty hefty prices to park in Manhatten.
  8. Remember, the Astrodome's playing field is below street level. I know the playing field is 25' below, but I'm not sure how much further below ground everything else is.
  9. I went to Rocbar for their grand opening weekend last month and it was a pretty good time. I haven't been since, so I'm wondering if it still going strong? Maybe I will stop by sometime next week.
  10. I would 2nd the bar at the top of Hilton of the Americas. I would also suggest La Carafe, Hotel Icon and Sambuca (live music) which are located downtown.
  11. I remember the the HPD headquarters had scaffolding for 3-4 years while it didn't appear they were doing any work. The suddenly one day it all vanished???

Please send me all of the left overs. PM me for my address and leave the food at the door.
  13. I always drove by and said to my friends "We have to check this place out", but we never did.
  14. Oh yea thanks for the reminder, Hicupps closed a few weeks ago. And Everyone knows about NOTSUOH now.
  15. Sweet Retreat opened where Stalone's used to be - haven't checked it out yet. Laidback Manor closed and Matra (I think that is the spelling) opened in it's place. It's Indian food and I hear it is pretty good (not a buffet). Brick House/Nestlees Cookies - Decent sandwiches but kind of small.
  16. Unless you are really in love with the place, I would keep renting and invest that 30%. I am in the exact situation where I rent downtown. I did the numbers and they don't add up to my advantage.
  17. Lola's and Poison Girl will never die!
  18. ^^^^^^^ They did have live music at Clark's but they charged cover. Therefore, it was always dead. Dean's has live music too.
  19. The owner of Dean's/Clark's is now just the owner of Dean's. He was losing too much money on Clark's so he gave it back to the owner of the building. Hopefully he will keep the cofee bar clean. I used to go upstairs after hours and that place was "interesting".
  20. It was open at 10:00PM Tuesday night. I think they open at 6:00am.
  21. Clarks is no longer a bar - it is now a coffee shop with a nice atmosphere. Rumor has it they are trying to get the cooks who made breakfast at Kava Kanes. They served some pretty good stuff over at Kava Kanes so I hope that's true.
  22. Musicman, I have probably seen you at Warren's and Charbar many time without realizing who you are.
  23. One of my favorite bars downtown is closing Friday night (right next to La Carafe). I didn't go there as often as I should have, but that place had great some ambiance with the wood work and high ceilings. I great place to take a date.
