Montrose Collective: Office Building With Retail At 888 Westheimer Rd.

I've heard from a good source on what will become of the vacant Picnic and The Chelsea restaurants that have recently closed. Mi Luna will replace Picnic. Yes, the old staple in Rice Village. The group that runs Doris Metropolitan will replace The Chelsea.- 974 replies

I'm not very excited about this news. All of those bars mentioned above are Washington bars that serve overpriced drinks, subpar food, and turn into a nightclub after 10pm. This might just be a happy hour place for me. More importantly, it's going to mess up my Poison Girl weekend nights with overfill from the club

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet. I've been walking by the past couple of weeks and thought it was just undergoing a remodel. There's an alcohol permit with an applicant of a Thai restaurant. I'm not sure there is a Thai food demand with Nidda a block away. Perhaps they will be staying open late with the bar traffic nearby.

La Grange was perfect on a nice sunny day or evening. The atmosphere just kind of sucked the past year or so. A Goodnight Hospitality takeover would be nice, but they have been focused on more high end dinning. I don't know what the rent is at La Grange, but It would be great if they could open a causal place like La Grange was. My ideal setup would be dining in the front, and more of a causal bar scene in the back. Kind of like how Hey Merchant and Underbelly were set up.

The old Wag'n World was on fire last night. Pretty big deal - shut down Westheimer and surrounding streets.

I wish them well, but I will support the local Yummy's Hot Chicken food truck across the street. Damn good sandwich.

Yeah I guess they were officially closed September, but the doors looked to be locked a month later. Just a poor attempt to make some money. Hell, they didn't even take down the Present Compony sign.

Malibu lasted 4 weeks tops.

^^^I had the same experience multiple times at the bar. The place wasn't being run well at all.

An Elro bartender told me the construction will be a café. Not sure if it's owned by the Elro group or not. Maybe it will be something like Montrose Cheese & Wine?

I know it's a necessary project that must bee done, but have you seen it in person? Driveways have been blocked and ripped up. Streets are closed and tourn up. It's a mess. -

I'm really trying hard to like the restaurants at this place, but I just can't. Marmo: Nice happy hour. Appetizers and drinks are good. It's going to cost you after 6pm. Drinks are ridiculously priced if you are drinking anything other than wine. Graffiti Raw: You are spend some $$$ here The Chelsea: Decent wine prices - not sure about liquor. $24 for a burger and appetizers aren't much cheaper. Picnik: Haven't checked it out yet. Looked online and the menu doesn't draw me in. I wouldn't call these places fines dining either. Much better restaurants you can go for the same price or cheaper. Traffic is going to be horrid on Grant St. with Uchi and these places. I feel bad for the neighbors. Just rip it all up and turn it into a upscale Rainey St. That's my Montrose is dead rant for the week.- 974 replies

About time they demolished this house. There have been two fires at this house within the past year - I assume vagrants. The fire last month was a big one and the owner probably got notice from the city to tear the house down.

It's there to keep the homeless out. It was looking like tent city

They did misreport. People couldn't stay because the plumbing wasn't up to fire code after the pipe burst.- 48 replies

Yeah, but Phil's BBQ sucked pretty bad.

This is correct. They either round up or down.

Why is it every time a new bar opens someone claims its going to be filled with d-bags? This isn't going to be a club or hip place to be.

I know gumbo and Danton's Seafood has pretty solid gumbo. -
This peeked my interest until I read "family friendly alcohol-free event". Perhaps I will goe to Warren's and then make it to the park.

I call BS. They will screw everyone by turning it into valet.
