musicman Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 should be interesting to see how the SUV works in a park with trees. Quote
Jax Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 (edited) The thing I don't get is why there needs to be a vehicle to transport people around the park. It's not that big of a park is it? Like 2-3 blocks wide, right? Apparently this is a "bad boy buggy". Edited September 13, 2007 by Jax Quote
sevfiv Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 i assumed it would be used for employees...and for promotional purposes, tooi was thinking trash pickup, maintenance, etc. although it doesn't look like it would hold any equipment as-is Quote

ProHouston Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 It looks like they're done with the garage? Is that true? Quote
shasta Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 When is the park scheduled to be open to the public? Quote
Jax Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Yeah it really does look like they're done with it. That's good news! The garage is supposed to open in November, right? Quote
Jax Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I think the garage opens in Nov, restaurants in Dec, and the park in general opens in Jan. Quote
HtownWxBoy Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 They should be close to being done... they are supposed to open soon! Quote
KimberlySayWhat Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 It looks like a flea market right now. Quote
Jax Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I just noticed there are some new photos on the site (from Sept 25).http://www.discoverygreen.com/en/cms/?292 Quote

ricco67 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 A couple of days ago I noticed a new structure and it looked like it would be where that circle is in the lower picture in post #625.It looks like a steel flower holder or something. Quote

ricco67 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I think it's going to be a mist tree.Nah, we'll eventually find out what it is going to be. <runs> Quote
ricco67 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 What is a mist tree??That metalic object I described earlier. but once we find out exactly what it is, it won't be a mystery much longer. Quote
Highway6 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Nah, we'll eventually find out what it is going to be. <runs> Mist Tree is planned..... Jax.. It'll be similar to the Wortham Fountain on Allen Pkwy, I imagine Quote
Houston19514 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 That metalic object I described earlier. but once we find out exactly what it is, it won't be a mystery much longer.LOL I was wondering if anyone would see the potential laugh there. But, seriously, it's going to be a mist tree. (I think it's going to be a sculptural "tree" that emits a cooling mist. Art, function, comfort, entertainment all in one.) Quote
swtsig Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 looking at those photos.... man, this is a pretty small park.but i guess we we'll take what we can get. Quote
ricco67 Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 looking at those photos.... man, this is a pretty small park.but i guess we we'll take what we can get.The park is surpringly large. You'd be surprised. The one thing that no one has talked about is the little ride road they cut into the median between the park and the Hilton Americas. I think that was designed for people leaving the restuarant. Quote
Daniepwils Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Actually it is going to be rather large. From pictures it doesn't seem to be large at all. But if you see this thing in person, you would be suprised. (It is no Central Park, but we don't need a Central Park in Houston) Quote
lockmat Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I've been there in person and I don't think it's too big either. The restaurants seem to take up a lot of space. But maybe my perspective will change once it's finished. It could be like looking at a piece of slab. The house always looks small until they start putting up walls. Quote
RedScare Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Actually it is going to be rather large. From pictures it doesn't seem to be large at all. But if you see this thing in person, you would be suprised. (It is no Central Park, but we don't need a Central Park in Houston)Especially considering we have two "central parks" already. Memorial Park is twice the size of Central Park. Hermann is half the size. And none of the three parks is located in a downtown. For a downtown park, I believe this will deliver what it promises. Daniepwils Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 When you say you have been there in person? What do you mean? You actually were inside the park area? Quote
lockmat Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 No. Just driven around it a couple times, which I guess is a little different from walking around inside it. But I've driven past plenty other things as well so it's not as if I'm w/o comparison. Quote
HtownWxBoy Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 looking at those photos.... man, this is a pretty small park.but i guess we we'll take what we can get.At least it's a nice park... and it's replacing surface lots!! Quote
Daniepwils Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Ahh, I thought you had been in it (I was wondering how, lol). Quote
marc Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 No. Just driven around it a couple times, which I guess is a little different from walking around inside it. But I've driven past plenty other things as well so it's not as if I'm w/o comparison. Driving around a park and walking/strolling around a park ARE two different things. Depending on landscaping, a relatively small space can seem larger because of stepbacks and such. When driving around it, one goes from a point A to point B perspective, whereas, winding pathways, trees blocking expansive views of the borders and certain structures can create an illusion that the park is larger than it really is. True it isn't Central Park size, but then again, does Houston need something like that DT? Quote
Daniepwils Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 For the love of god they need to get rid of that cruise ship with its stern and bow cut off that is sitting right next to this new park!We need a new convention center imo. Honestly I like Orlando's old convention center -- there new one is just WOW, but I would settle for their old one, it still is very nice. Quote
