ricco67
the concentration of dbags in the bars on washington is higher than in most other places, this is like the problem s3mh has with anti-ordinance people not necessarily being anti-preservation.a) dbags go to bars on washington with higher frequency than they go to other bars.next) not all people that go to bars on washington are dbags.unless you have a fake tan, wear a lot of ed hardy shirts with sparkly dragons on them, and have spiky hair, you probably aren't a dbag.there are a few bars that cater to the D-bag sub-species, but they have a tendency to migrate where they feel comfortable. As I have posted on this thread before, they typically wear the same "uniform" of D-baggy-ness and can generally identified from other social animals in the same environment. They seem to hang in some small groups and get boisterous when in close proximity of those of their same, or complete opposite, species. Those bars that have taken preventive steps in minimizing or eliminating the infestation in bars are those that do not admit those in uniform, of which is "Vintage", "Drinkery", and "dirt bar" (now "222").You can never stamp them out, they just evolve. RedScare
I have it on good authority that Sawyer Park has closed. I know I made a prediction on how long it would last, but I can't find it. I doubt I predicted 3 and a half years, though. That's probably a year and a half longer than I gave it.

InTheLoopFromNYC
Updated photos from what used to be the Guadalajara Bakery on Washington and Leverkuhn... Looks like they're doing a nice renovation job on the old building but not sure what to say about the new structure! If I remember correctly, the old building will be a restaurant/lounge and the new one is slated to be a club. The old variance request sign mentioned Laroux. Texasota
Hm. That does look like a nice renovation job. The windowless black box next to it does look ...strange. I actually like it, but, this being Washington, I can't imagine ill like what they actually put in there.
InTheLoopFromNYC
Hah, what a joke! Two full years later and the exterior progress has actually regressed if you can believe it. My take is that the owners are a complete amateur act and are likely strapped for cash. They obviously couldn't care less about this thing's negative curb appeal. Been funny watching them struggle with even building planters for trees along Washington -- that's taken weeks and those trees, yet to be planted, all appear to be dead or dying and are routinely blown over with every high wind. The club has opened, but the front structure languishes along, and the adjacent lot still has yet to be cleaned up. Over/under for 2018??? By comparison, look at the high quality job that was done at Concrete Cowboy -- big bucks invested and relatively quick turnaround when compared to this. Hope the latter does an equally impressive job with the soon to be Clutch City Bar across from Kung Fu.
InTheLoopFromNYC
Two months have passed since the last post and unfortunately this project continues to languish. Dead trees were planted (yes, planted dead) along Washington after the full set was repeatedly blown over for weeks by the spring storm winds. Now all of the trees, including the dead ones they planted, were removed. The parking lot has been marginally cleaned up, but overall, the whole thing is still a mess! This was supposed to be Black Orchid Gastro Bar. Per Swamplot back in February: "As of January a year ago, chef Michael Sanguinetti was slated to be at the helm of Black Orchid’s $75-ish nightly tasting menu. Culturemaps reports that Sanguinetti’s other Washington Ave project closed for restructuring last summer due to conceptual disagreements between Sanguinetti and the owner." Don't hold your breath! IntheKnowHouston
The Sugar Room at 5120 Washington Ave is open. This is a dual concept with a bakery operating on one side and a speakeasy bar on the other. Contrary to the posts above, there isn't a donut shop. Instead, So Clutch Group partnered with Sweet (Tour Suite). Sweet is a dessert shop and coffee shop. The Washington Avenue branch offers an abbreviated menu. The cocktail bar and lounge is known as Sugar Room.
