  1. that looks like why they put the frame around it, to not damage what is already there.
  2. this one? A talented stone artist could easily save it.
  3. it took 6 tries to bring up the "add post" box here... Anyway, Saturday was a nice day to be outside trying to figure out how much of the work a gym's treadmill does for you as you "jog"... (it was definitely more than half... a stair stepper machine does 75% of the work for you)
  4. When was the last time you went into Dean's or Notsuoh? They have been rebuilt, they're very nice - on the first floor. The second and third floors.... not so much (I haven't been to the late night after hours at the one on the right in a few years, so I can't tell you if it's still an unfinished disaster area with the worst restroom i have ever been in to - it made punk rock club bathrooms look nice, and that includes the old bathrooms at Numbers)
  5. it's not a 'go to the store' type place, it's a gathering place where people can be entertained. A Whole Foods would be out of place here, just as it would be out of place at the Marq-E complex
  6. there are smaller markets that are served by IAH but not Hobby, and vice versa. Southwest wants to capitalize on those passengers who need to go from say Chiraq to Marfa... You catch a SW flight from Chiraq, fly to IAH, the catch AreJay's charter service at IAH to Marfa.
  7. it does, just a little bit. But, the important thing is, it blocks half of the Cosmo from South Post Oak so I don't have to look at that thing while headed north on South Post Oak
  8. the curved south wall is looking cool and, garage facade waiting up be moved into the lift area:
  9. I think 6201 Bissonnet is the old Homer's location. We now know Homers as Home Depot.
  10. I saw on the news this morning that someone set a fire in the back on the Disco Kroger.
  11. 77 sounds about right. Kroger had a major expansion in town around that time. My brother's first job was at a Kroger in Stafford in '79 right after he turned 16, the store was new then.
  12. I went there a few times in the early 80's. Since it was more of a pool hall than a bar, they didn't have a problem with underage people there. We would also go to Mai's game room on Boone just north of Beechnut.
  13. awesome. Now, if they could do that all the way to Galveston....
  14. I think the YMCA was on Fondren. My sister was the gymnastics coach there for a while. I vaguely remember a Foodarama on Fuqua between Hiram Clark and S Post Oak. The dry cleaners was probably Pilgrims, they were all over town (might still be, i don't know). There is a Foodarama on S Post Oak at Ridge Creek, it used to be a Rice store. There was also Pyburns a mile or so north of there. I used to work nights in that area.
  15. Vargo's on Fondren, maybe? I lived across the street from it, those peacocks were LOUD.
  16. Does this render mean they can't rip out the old foundation, so they're working with it instead? I thought the reason for tearing this building down was for flood mitigation... If they ever get around to building the North Canal, then removing these huge blocks of concrete isn't that important.
  17. They will probably fly into Terminal A like the other Non-United airlines- you know, the GOOD airlines.
  18. I fixed the sound system in there for Shawn, the owner, and I probably wouldn't have recognized that spot... LOL (Shawn also owns The Dirt Bar and El Big Bad) BTW, when they reopen, they have THE BEST steak night on Mondays.
