  1. I'm pretty sure you can't reserve street parking for residents. Either anyone can park there or no one. I've not seen the signs yet or heard any buzz in the hood yet.
  2. My version was: Beans, Beans, a magical fruit. They make your pants go rudy toot toot. I can't remember the rest.
  3. Texas competition chili never (or rarely) has beans. Not sure why it's frowned upon from the pros. I like it both ways.
  4. One of Roy Morales' goals, if he is elected mayor, is to repeal the signage restrictions for buildings downtown. Urgh, it looks like he has no chance in hell anyway. That's all we need is to trash out our lovely skyline. My ugly building vote goes to the Federal Building downtown.
  5. That makes no sense, Westcott is a north/south street. Why not just use Woodway?
  6. Super Midtown Target!! They could extend it over Richmond from the old McDonald's lot, just like the Wortham goes over Prairie. What? I can dream, can't I.
  7. That's odd, because I got a similar amount for a rebate that I wasn't even expecting. Talk about a pleasant surprise.
  8. They did change a bunch of lights a few years ago from left on arrow only to arrow and yield. Many Montrose intersections come to mind.
  9. I've never been 'in' so I kind of feel like I missed out on something.
  10. It seems like I saw a sign a while back that said October. It doesn't look like that's going to happen, not this October anyway.
  11. And I saw it on CH2 - makes me proud to be a resident. It may be walkable, but many of the sidewalks are in bad shape because of tree roots. On the gay thing. I'm not so sure why Montrose (snicker, snicker) is still pegged as a gay neighborhood, gays are all over this city. It must be because they moved in in the 70's and attempted to spruce up a declining area. This is still going on in other areas, such as Westbury, Galveston and, of course, The Heights. It's unlikely that these areas will ever be pegged as gayborhoods, though.
  12. They bought it in the 80's and gated up both ends. You used to be able to enter on the Taft side too.
  13. The New Yorker is correct. Here are the official Montrose borders. http://www.houstontx...use/sn24lu.html Uh, and Oh, River Oaks Shopping Center is in, um - you got it - Montrose.
  14. No, there was a place on Kirby. It was near the old Hard Rock (Kirby, near Westheimer). Actually, I think they tore down the restaurant to build the Hard Rock. Funny, in looking at maps.google (2727 Kirby) they are in the middle of tearing down the Hard Rock. Streetview now shows a Wachovia there. Anyway, it was a medium to light brown brick building with an awning that represented the French flag.
  15. I think the old library that's being redone is to the south of city hall and the newer library is to the northwest of the old one. Regardless, I think you can only see a tiny portion in that photo, around the grouping of trees. On another note, when was the Federal Building built? I did not realize it was so old.
  16. Whatever they do with the Midtown property, I hope they put in some sidewalks. On the north side of that parking lot, you have to walk in the street to get to the Ensemble Station.
  17. Treebeard's at Market Square has decent gumbos at lunch for under $7. Mon - Duck, Tue & Wed - Chicken & Sausage, Thu & Fri - Seafood. I haven't tried it, but I've been told that the gumbo at the Chronicle Deli is very good (one day a week). It's close to dinner time and I'm wanting me some gumbo!
  18. Gilhooley's or something like that? The Stingaree on Bolivar is quite good. We're also rolling into oyster season. They have something called the Oysters Jubilee that is to die for. Oysters are served about 10 different ways. Raw, oyster gumbo, Rockefeller, Bienville, Jose, fried, sauteed...
  19. New idea for the Astrodome - A GIANT playground Speaking of ozone, I don't think we had any alerts this summer. When we were alerted on the posibility of high ozone, I monitored this site regularly and never saw any problems. http://www.tceq.state.tx.us/cgi-bin/compliance/monops/ozone_animation.pl?12
  20. The place used to be The Bavarian Gardens. It was near Waugh and Feagan. I don't think there's an equivalent anymore. I did it in Munich (Munchen) once - OMG, Good Times!
  21. I caught that in her commercial too. I think she's just talking that way to gain conservative votes. Also, the safety and police chatter is another area aimed toward vote-getting. Hell, she's got a piece of public art 'temporarily' attached to her building, near Little Bigs.
