  1. I don't know the person who is posting, personally... but I do know who they are. That said, I'm intrigued and very hopeful for the future. Previous information they provided on MainPlace through the development/construction phase was spot on.
  2. Someone might want to merge with an earlier, slightly longer thread on the same topic... http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/26334-20-story-office-tower-planned-for-energy-corridor-i-10-and-north-eldridge-pkwy
  3. Apparently work inside was finished in September, and it looks like they'll be having an open house in May... http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2013/02/historic-500-fannin-gets-a-facelift.html Several before/after photos are included in the post.
  4. Was surprised when I went by here on my last visit back, a few weeks ago. The old Hollywood video which had been abandoned for a while has been turned into a Safelite Auto Glass location while a new RaceWay gas station was being built catty-corner to the Just Brakes. Slowly, but surely it seems to be recovering... Even saw the old Citgo/Burger King is being renovated nearby - one of three gas stations near a corner, if you count the RaceWay.

  6. Sounds like groundbreaking took place... Also a couple of new renderings. http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2013/01/trammell-crow-breaks-ground-on-energy-corridor-tower
  7. It is a bit off topic, but I was wondering about #4 on that map... not sure I can recall any proposals regarding a tower near Market Square. Anyone have any insight or a refresher if it's been covered on HAIF?
  8. This. In hindsight, I think I may have just had a bad experience at the one I'd mentioned in the start of the thread... In Wichita, there are four Aldi locations in different types of neighborhoods. Each of them are in middle or upper-middle income areas, and they're not all that bad for the basics. Some of the statements made elsewhere are not true though - you can pick up plastic bags for your groceries, you'll just have to pay a whopping 5 cents for them. Larger reusable bags are also available for under five bucks, and you can find both directly under the checkout when you're moving through the line. The sacking areas are still there, just past the checkouts and you can take home old boxes to help contain the items if you'd wish. Service at each of the ones here is actually pretty good. One of my main gripes is that at any time, there are only one or two checkstands open. Lines do start to extend into the frozen foods area or down one of the aisles before someone will mercifully open another one. One of the main things I do notice there is the number of older people shopping when I visit. Maybe it's the lower prices or the effectively straightforward presentation at the locations... but that is something I've seen at each of them locally. In this area, at least, they also tend to spur grocery competition. At each of the locations I've mentioned, Walmart has built and opened a "Neighborhood Market" store to compete with them and other established grocers. In the past two years, 6 of those markets have been built with another underway in the suburbs.
  9. Pretty sure this went down in flames based on my last visit to the area. The primary street is there, but that's about it. This stretch of Dowlen Road is still not as filled in as the mall area or even Folsom to the north, or the intersection with Delaware to the south. Did find this though... some sketches and a layout of the proposed development. http://insitearchitecture.net/portfolio/land-development-urban-planning/metropolitan-park/
  10. Also looks like they'll be expanding the movie theater to the southwest, to fill in the vacant plot next to the existing building.
  11. Over the past few years, only a few tenants have moved into the space, but they are generally larger ones. Currently, the center is home to a Just Brakes in the former Auto-Service area, Baskins Western Wear, a chinese buffet and now one of the DPS "Mega Centers" http://www.click2houston.com/news/DPS-opens-new-Mega-Centers/-/1735978/17775598/-/g3b5bgz/-/index.html Aside from this development, back in the mid-to-late 90s, it looked like the movement was to turn the intersection of 59 and 36 into the major retail corridor. For the longest time, there was even a billboard promoting it as the "Fort Bend Crossroads" or something similar. Then again, this is when the Super K & all of the pad sites were open... well before the Reading Road intersection began to develop the way it has.
  12. The KC Paper's take is pretty straightforward on the move. I just felt like linking the article though since If there's anything that's universal, it's the usual stupidity of the comments section of articles on newspaper websites. http://www.kansascity.com/2012/12/06/3951348/company-leaving-johnson-county.html
  13. It looks like the 'soft' opening was on Friday, per the HBJ, which also has photos of the place. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2012/11/29/take-a-photo-tour-of-topgolf-houston.html
  14. The museum opens tomorrow. The Dallas Morning News has it covered... and since I don't feel like doing a kajillion links, they were nice enough to put the bulk of their coverage on one page. Thanks! http://www.dallasnews.com/entertainment/visitors-guide/perot-museum/headlines/20121124-read-stories-from-our-perot-museum-special-section.ece And I'm always a sucker for timelapse. This video features construction inside and out... http://photographyblog.dallasnews.com/2012/11/check-out-this-totally-cool-timelapse-video-of-the-perot-museum-of-nature-and-science-being-constructed-dinosaur-skeletons-being-assembled.html/
  15. The Chronicle just ran piece on the development - naturally it's behind a paywall. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/homes/article/Community-takes-shape-in-far-north-Harris-County-4075094.php And Nancy's blog teases a few photos from the site... most are infrastructure-related while the remainder are renderings that have already been seen here. http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2012/11/images-of-the-super-secure-springwoods-village/
  16. Actually saw the Event Centre when I was down there a few months ago. Didn't realize it hadn't opened, but it looked like a nice enough structure in the area. This was before the 'lake' was filled with water, and they were still putting the final touches on it. Apparently it only made it's formal debut in late August. http://setxhomepage....t?nxd_id=198452 I like the idea of redeveloping this part of town, though the 'great lawn' & building's relationship seems out of whack. I also like the fact they're making an effort to introduce people to the area by doing their "Lunch at the Lake" events over the final weeks of November, and first week of December. Was happy see some of the older, heavily neglected warehouses surrounding the space demolished. Having been inside of one of them while it was still standing, those were structures that really did have no hope of rehab. Nearby, it looks like they're making progress on developing a Skate Park & Playground http://www.beaumonte...own-4056989.php Actually saw that they were pretty far along rehabbing one of the older buildings in the area for the new Children's Museum as well. One of the best things about the downtown area as of late is one of the most basic elements - The streets and sidewalks. Was impressed to see how all of the work over the past few years turned out, and was pleasantly surprised at what I found.
  17. Some new tidbits on the building from the HBJ... http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2012/11/southwestern-energy-releases-more.html
  18. Found this in Nancy's Sunday real estate column. http://www.chron.com/business/real-estate/article/A-downtown-implosion-is-a-real-estate-rarity-4045726.php Rendering Included in the piece...
  19. The offices and preliminary venue were to have opened this weekend. The group wants to have the Cole restored by the end of next year. http://www.chron.com/fortbend/news/article/Center-for-the-Arts-to-debut-in-Rosenberg-Nov-4013335.php

  21. That's probably the case now. Saw the updated version of the plans and it looks like the place where Peter Piper would've been has been divided into two potential pad sites - one proposed as an Oakbend Medical Center Clinic. The other is just open. Not the biggest fan of Papa Murphy's - you get to pay for them to prepare a pizza... then take it home and bake it and assorted sides/deserts yourself. You're better off getting getting something from the freezer at the store - same taste but cheaper. As for that thing I couldn't make out earlier on the Phase II side - it looks like it will be a Children's Learning Adventure location. Funny thing is, they've planned to develop something just northwest of the Hampton Inn on the Phase I side. The current layout shows it there too... That space is bigger though - around 65k in total. It looks like there may be an Old Navy planned for the open space between Palais Royal and Kohl's The site that previously was Conn's may become a Marshall's/HomeGoods Store, with a Cato going in next to it. Other new 'proposed' tenants include Firehouse Subs & Cornerstone Automotive, both on the Phase II side.
