  1. Not to be too much of a downer, but I'm pretty certain those locations been in "pre-development" for an extended period of time. Maybe 5+ years, if not more... Definitely remember rumblings about 1500 Smith since before the last recession, and I'm pretty certain there was a thread around here at one point where we were all trying to pin down where they'd have the room to build.
  2. Heh, I saw that too... Then I realized it was the bell tower from St. Anne's which is actually across the street from the project. Bonus points for accuracy on that one.
  3. I'd been curious about this one for some time. I'd only seen it proposed at 55 stories / 765 feet based on some of the period reports from the Houston Post. Was supposed to have been a project put forward by Urban Investment & Development and Treptow / Murphree (developers of The Huntingdon and a few other buildings). Only appeared to be viable for about a year or so before the bust based on that info. Not bad in terms of height, but I'm not the biggest fan of the design.
  4. It's funny you posted that clip. KRIV actually ended up getting that set in the mid 90's, when WNYW got a new one. It was the last set they used while they were at the old studios on Westheimer (now the Central Market). They used the same graphics for the open around the same time too. I have a few items posted on my YouTube account from the station from 1989 - the tail end of the period you're looking for.
  5. You're right. I tried plugging in a building for that section of land between 500' - 550' feet, and even then, it doesn't stand out unless you're looking at it from the Southwest (specifically the 'Midtown view, and even then you have to know where to look) or the east, (Dynamo / Minute Maid), North (UH/D) Northeast (Eastex Freeway). Those latter three shots would give you the best shot of seeing it in the skyline. Fans of BG Group Place from that last angle might not be too happy though, since at that height and perspective it starts to block out the tower to an extent.
  6. I originally posted a "What-if" version of the skyline featuring the 609 Main tower in that thread, but have been adding to the original model I saved in Sketchup. These screen shots include 609 Main, Chevron, Skyhouse, International Tower, Capitol Tower, Marriott Marquis, Five Allen Center and the pair of new hotels planned for the Convention Center area. The proportions are based on tips and information from the posts on this site. 7. I think this one was the initial version of the sleeker tower that Hanover proposed for the BLVD Place project. Not the one that's under construction but the one prior to it, pictured below. Thought it was cancelled or put on hold indefinitely. Then again the current BLVD Place plans and renderings show the above tower, with the same footprint still there along San Felipe at Post Oak Lane, so who really knows.
  8. Yep, it was planned for an area overlooking Offatts Bayou. http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/11745-endeavour-galveston
  9. According to bisnow, work on the site began today... http://www.bisnow.com/commercial-real-estate/houston/river-oaks-district-breaks-ground/ Anyone see anything going on over there?
  10. Didn't realize someone tried to go "Ashby" on this one and get a movement against the project going. Even has it's own little "evil structure looming over neighborhood" art as well, even if it does look make it look like the Brave Little Toaster had 'roid rage or something. http://stopparcbinz.org/ Probably speaks to how well it went since I only found this after the crane's up and work has begun...
  11. Maybe, per the HBJ... http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2013/05/31/atlantic-league-looks-to-expand-to.html
  12. Sounds like this one will be moving ahead later in the year... http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/A-boom-in-senior-living-takes-shape-in-Houston-4548012.php
  13. Thought this was interesting news from the construction site, per bisnow...
  14. How Westchase became part of the Energy Corridor as the article attempts to say, I don't even know. That said, it looks like it's may be going up on spec within the next few months. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2013/05/go-west-young-man-more-energy.html
  15. Since I'm not in the area, I can only check in on this one with the help of everyone here and through the SkyHouse webcam. I've noticed they're building a small wooden access way up and near the eastern corner that's rising by the day. I'm guessing it's just for the stuff they're cleaning out floor by floor at this point, especially since one of the levels is connected to a chute that goes to the dumpsters, but it also looks like an access way for construction elevators that I've seen at other projects. Just wondering if it looked that large in person since you can only gauge so much from a webcam!
  16. The old steam engine near the site will now be part of the museum... http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2013/05/antique-train-donated-to-houston.html
  17. New leasing info shows a few changes to proposed tenants. For phase 1 - more spaces for restaurants have emerged around the movie theater, as has a new 2-story medical office building. Only new proposed tenants I can make out are a Cavender's Boot City just northeast of the theater and a James Coney Island for a pad site in front of the theater's lot on Vista Drive. As for Phase 2 - the Raising Cane's & Children's Learning Adventure proposals have been removed. The ER clinic proposed for the space between Olive Garden & Cracker Barrel has reverted back to retail with an opportunity for a second restaurant.
  18. In time for May sweeps, he's back... just on another station. And for an interview. http://www.click2houston.com/news/former-ktrk-reporter-wayne-dolcefino-talks-to-local-2/-/1735978/20179506/-/3rdcd1z/-/index.html
