  1. Right. Green was the one who started holding up the contracts. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/politics/texas/article/Controller-Green-holds-up-airport-contracts-6703744.php State Rep. Borris Miles's insurance company was included as a subcontractor. Ron Green subpoenaed Miles last year in his divorce from Hilary Green for videos and photos of Hilary. I'm not saying that's the reason why Green held up things because Green didn't mention Miles or the insurance contract in his e-mail to council members, but I wouldn't be surprised if that gave him some extra motivation to block and scrutinize the iffy contracts. 2. My dad has an office in the BB&T building across the street from the demolition site. Someone told him a few months ago before the demolition began that a mixed use development is going to be built there. That would fall in line with a City Centre.
  3. Does anyone know what the hold up is on the Krispy Kreme being constructed at S. Main and 610? Seems like no work has been done to the building in the past 3 months.
  4. This is on Algerian Way near Kirby. The former residential street has gone all commercial with exception of one holdout residence. https://goo.gl/maps/DUKFzNuLWdE2
  5. While it's on my mind, does anyone know why the powers that be decided to put an asphalt overlay on a section of the Grand Parkway that was recently constructed? There's a section south of the Brazos River that opened around 2013-14 and had an asphalt overlay placed over the concrete in 2015. You usually don't see asphalt overlay on concrete unless the concrete pavement is over 20 years old.
  6. I've noticed on this project and on the US290 and I-45 South projects that TxDOT (in the Houston District at least) is switching to using longitudinal tined grooves in concrete as opposed to the transverse tine which produces that drone or whistle you hear while traveling on it. Longitudinal is much quieter than transverse, almost new asphalt quiet. Most folks probably won't notice that, though.
  7. I think one of the signs said tolls were $1.11 for cars. I can't remember what the other rates were for larger vehicles.
  8. Here's three photos from my drive along the Grand Parkway yesterday. I checked it out between I-45 and Telge. I didn't feel like going all the way to 290. You can see that they still need to change the BGS for exit 70B In I-45 NB to read Grand Parkway. The first time I drove through, I passed it and went back to make sure I didn't miss the sign.
  9. LEDs have been installed in Riverside and I love them. My front yard is lit at night (helpful for seeing who's walking through), no upward glare (you can especially notice this in foggy conditions when the beam cutoff angles are more visible), and it just looks modern and crisp.
  10. Did anyone go to the Houston Auto Show last week?
  11. That blue on blue! I need a towel. (drooling) Glad to see we're finally getting away from beige on tan and silver on gray.
  12. KCOH will be back on the FM dial. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/entertainment/article/Houston-s-KCOH-to-move-to-FM-dial-6739173.php
  13. It's hard to tell a week and a half into his administration. I hope he does well. I have seen more pothole repair crews than usual out there on the streets, so he's living up to that promise. I've been meaning to report some nearby potholes and see how quickly they get fixed. Hmm, there's one a few feet away from me. 311, here I come!
  14. Nice car, but it looks too much like the S and C. MBs traditionally have some shared design language between the models, but at least there was some difference between the models and their designs.
  15. Yes. He and his wife, Saundra, are owners of KCOH per his website. http://benhallforhouston.com/meet
  16. I just noticed the beacon operating the other day. How long has it been back in operation?
  17. It's not going to follow US 190 for its entirety. It'll also follow other existing roads.
  18. This is the train of thought that has led to Houston's reputation as having a lack of regard for historic preservation.
  19. Volvo unveiled the 2017 S90. Nice looking car. I like how the beltline doesn't have the tendency to go upward and make the side and rear windows into slits, forsaking any visibility for style. http://www.theverge.com/2015/12/2/9837424/volvo-s90-sedan-announced-detroit-auto-show-2016
  20. I never saw any renderings for the extension. Were any renderings released?
  21. Maybe the delay has something to do with the North Houston Highway Improvement Project. Perhaps they have to redesign the extension to accommodate future access to the new feeder roads from N. San Jacinto while also making sure the highway will be built high enough to clear the N. San Jacinto overpass over Hardy Yards.
  22. The mall located at the intersection of two freeways is not an easy place to get to from ANY freeway?
  23. I like the Heights Corridor routing. I could see it constructed as a partial express line to TCR if it followed the Heights Hike and Bike trail underneath Shepherd and Durham, through the Eureka yard to Hempstead Rd. It would appease any NIMBYs who may not want light rail going down W 11th and may allow for the train to attain higher speeds on those stretches where its grade separated going underneath those roads. Though I don't know if going 66 mph next to a Hike and Bike trail is a good idea.
  24. Here's an article from a few years back that talks about this issue. It's an interesting read. http://www.chron.com/news/article/Life-in-the-fast-lane-1571501.php
  25. You must not be from around these parts. What is this yield that you speak of?
