US 90A/OST from SH 288 to Spur 5 Reconstruction
JLWM8609 replied to hindesky's topic in Traffic and Transportation
The 5" sidewalks aren't being widened, so he's probably ok with it, but he might not like the full depth concrete pavement replacement. All he knows is "mill and overlay". -
I read mostly guttural braying from the anti-Ellis crowd on X.

Bruce is my cousin. You just unlocked a memory. He was also in the Thunder Soul documentary in 2010 about Conrad Johnson.- 9 replies

That will increase to three once the Quitman overpass is built. It's too bad that the plans don't include a Cavalcade overpass/underpass at the railroad. I frequently see trains stopped on the West Belt track there.

Man, I didn't realize how much casual racism and cultural insensitivity there was in some of these older posts. 😖

The Stop I-45 group is trying to stop this drainage project. Their reasoning is TxDOT has claimed it's not part of the NHHIP to skirt air monitoring requirements. https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/transportation/article/288-construction-drainage-txdot-19375066.php Local residents have concerns too. Honestly, I was at the last meeting and while I believe they dropped the ball on notifying the community on the project, the project is a plus if it reduces flooding. It's not like properties will be taken. https://www.khou.com/article/news/local/residents-against-third-ward-txdot-project/285-e951da49-6cf8-425f-8369-9ccdf40dc6dc

On the Hardy Connector site, there are some renderings for landscaping, park caps, trails, and other amenities. The opposition wants no highway at all or an at grade parkway with a 30 mph speed limit. I feel like Hardy/Elysian serves that purpose now since it went on a road diet and bike lanes were added. Maybe they want something like Lakeshore Dr. in Chicago with similar landscaping on a smaller scale.

Main And Fannin Street Underpasses At Holcombe Blvd.
JLWM8609 replied to Highrise Tower's topic in Traffic and Transportation
When the original 1960 Ardmore St. Bridge over Brays Bayou was demolished in 2018, the contractor told me that the plaque would be removed and preserved by Harris County. I'm not sure if the City of Houston does the same thing. I think some plaques also fell victim to vehicle accidents or scrap metal thieves. The Waugh/Allen Parkway Street to Street separation was constructed around 1980 and the Studemont/Allen Parkway separation was constructed in 1967. -
Likely with layoffs and reductions in city services

No. That's one of the better locations in town.

Lower Westheimer Road Construction
JLWM8609 replied to trymahjong's topic in Traffic and Transportation
So how long will this mill and repave last before they decide to rip it out to do the ultimate project with new sewer lines and concrete pavement? -
This is nice. My coworkers at the County kept saying it was going to be a dog park, but that never made sense to me given that residential isn't concentrated around that area, and most dog parks tend to be close to residential areas. Now, if they could just demolish 1301 Franklin, that'd be great.

I have no clue. That sounds like a question for @MaxConcrete -
I didn't know you'd moved! Hope you're enjoying San Antonio.

I thought his new safety plan was replacing broken sidewalks with vehicle travel lanes?

The one on W. Gray in River Oaks Shopping Center isn't bad. They have a semblance of organization there. The one in Shadow Creek in Pearland on 2234 is probably the neatest and most organized one I've been to yet. Clear aisles and items I can't find at other locations, so less soul sucking and more treasure hunting. I wouldn't be surprised if this location starts locking up items and outright stops carrying certain items. Poor Midtown can't catch a break.

I went for that location for the first and last time today. Felt like the wild west. As I walked in, a guy was walking out nonchalantly with a garbage bag full of stuff he'd stolen. Considering it was Dollar Tree, he probably made off with $9 worth of stuff.

I-10 Inner Katy Managed Lanes Project
JLWM8609 replied to hindesky's topic in Traffic and Transportation
So between this, the elevated I-10, and the NHHIP, there will be continuous construction along I-10 from Voss Rd. to Waco St. over the next decade or longer. Yippee! /s -
