  1. S. Main was a 4 lane divided highway with crossovers before the widening occurred. I guess it was cheaper to do the current setup than to have a conventional full freeway style feeder road there.
  2. They're basing it on the square footage of the proposed building and the shape of it, which is in line with a Walmart Supercenter. Though I don't know how reliable the sketch up is. It could be like that to throw people off for whatever reason.
  3. I chose Huey Freeman from The Boondocks comic strip/tv show. My original avatar was a GIF of a shadowed version of Huey moving his head to the beat of music as you can see here: http://rs438.pbsrc.com/albums/qq109/Phyn0m/Huey1.gif~c200. HAIF transitioned to a new forum around 08-09, so I needed a new avatar. I decided to use an updated image of him from an episode in which he's giving a quizzical expression in response to some off the wall behavior, and it's stuck since then.
  4. So the plan calls for a retail big box store with a retail fuel center. I don't know if this means it'll be a big oil branded station like Shell or Chevron, or if it'll be a brand tied into the big box retail. If it's the latter, Walmart has been ruled out because there's already one about 3 miles down the road. Costco, Sam's Club, Kroger, HEB, and Randall's fit the mold as big retailers who sell fuel. Perhaps it'll be a Kroger Marketplace or Costco since it's such a large store? Did you notice the Chick-Fil-A looking QSR with the double drive-thru and umbrella covered tables below the RC and fuel station ?
  5. The direct ramp from I-10 to 290 will ultimately connect to the flyover being used for the temporary exit from 610 NB. You're right that 610 NB traffic will once again have to split to the left to get on 290 in the final configuration of the interchange. 610 NB to 290 traffic exiting at Durham or Mangum will have its own exit ramp just past the split from 610. http://www.my290.com/images/documents/maps/2015/Projects-J-1-J-2-and-K-I-610-US-290-Plan-View.pdf
  6. True. The permanent configuration will allow traffic from I-10 to 290 to completely avoid the 610 mainlanes. Currently, traffic from I-10 to 290 still has to join the 610 mainlanes, there's just no more mad dash to the left lanes to get to 290.
  7. It's still there because it's part of the hydrology of White Oak Bayou according to the Harris County Flood Control District.
  8. Brays Bayou receded for the most part by the 19th. NW Harris County received much more rain and that water is moving slowly toward Lake Houston and that's why cars are still submerged there. NW Harris County received about 18 inches, but Meyerland got about 9 inches.
  9. I don't think it got flooded this time. Flooding in Meyerland was bad this time, but not as bad as it was on Memorial Day. I know a couple who lives on N. Braeswood between Chimney Rock and S. Rice Ave. who got flooded on Memorial Day, but didn't get flooded this time.
  10. The inner loop was just about completely inaccessible during Allison and that's with the current set-up. I remember we had flooding of 288/59 south of downtown, and that rarely happens. Depressed highways like 288 between Wheeler and 610 can function as a spillway during extreme flooding events. While flooding along Brays, particularly in Meyerland was bad, I think flooding would've been worse if not for 288 functioning as a spillway, but I'm no hydrologist.
  11. I think Aldi will do well out here. The Riverside Terrace residents may still trek over to the Buffalo Speedway HEB for a "better" choice. As for Dairy Queen, the new-ish Exxon on Scott at Blodgett was supposed to get a Dairy Queen per the sign that was placed outside while it was under construction, but it ended up getting a Popeye's instead.
  12. Atlanta is an exception. The MARTA subway line ends at the airport, but the connection is right at the terminal. They don't need turn around space. They just switch tracks as they depart the airport.
  13. The old Astroworld lot is a giant dirt parking lot used for the rodeo and storage of temporary buildings and equipment. Not sure how it looks like "Uptown South" to you. The car dealerships are still there, too (Chevy, Toyota, Nissan).
  14. Regarding the extension of the purple line, the intersection of Griggs, Mykawa, and Long Rd at the railroad crossings is a SNAFU intersection. The SH35 freeway is also slated to go through there at some point along with a stack interchange at 610. That that entire intersection will likely be completely redesigned to accommodate everything coming through there including a light rail line, and also eliminate those at-grade railroad crossings.
  15. Per this thread on aaroads.com, the first construction project related to the Hardy Toll Road extension should begin soon. It's just the Collingsworth overpass. Mainlane construction will take place at a later time. http://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=17748.0
  16. So Mercedes-Benz is bringing back the SEC model name of the 80s and 90s by basically, putting the front and rear of an S-class coupe to an S-class sedan and having a car that will in essence, be like a big CLS. http://www.carbuzz.com/news/2016/4/7/Mercedes-Is-Bringing-Back-The-SEC-Name-In-A-Big-Way-7732935/ I wouldn't have brought back the SEC model name to a car that isn't a coupe. I don't care, 4 doors isn't a coupe! But, since the CLx naming scheme seems to be reserved for those 4-door MB vehicles with sleek, couple style roofs (CLA, CLS), this is what I would do. Keep the CLA name for the small car. Rename the present CLS "CLE" with the E denoting its E-class size, and applying the CLS name to the biggest car, denoting its S-class size. This isn't the first time Mercedes-Benz will apply an old name to a new car that's pretty removed from the car that bore the original name. They brought back the SLC name as a new name for the little two-seater SLK roadster this model year. The original SLC was a two door hardtop with a normal rear seat based on the 107 chassis SL built from 1971 to 1981. There's a connection to the SLC and SEC model names as the original SEC replaced the SLC in 1981. During the second generation (140 chassis), the SEC became the S-class coupe in 1993, and then was renamed CL-class around 1998. A few years ago, the CL-class became the S-class coupe again. Not to be a crotchety old man, but it was easier to keep up with MBs when all you had was the 190, 240D, 300D/CD/TD, 300SD, 380SE/SEL, 380SL, and 500SEL. When you heard those model names, you knew for the most part what size the car was, the engine size, and the fuel type. Now, we're in a day where Mercedes-Benz sells two SUVs called the GLE, but one is referred to as a coupe despite having 4 doors! I guess I'll go yell at a cloud.
  17. From an episode of Major Lazer in which they have to defeat a villain in Houston named Double Cup who created a purple drink laced with cough syrup that slows everyone down and "chops and screws" up things.
  18. Purple Heart Charity does pick-up. I don't know if that's the charity you asked to pick-up last year. http://www.purpleheartpickup.org/
  19. I realize I'm a week late, but I use Saigon Tailor on Alabama at Main.
  20. There's a shared path alongside Holly Hall between Fannin and Ardmore.
  21. I remember Syms. There were good deals to be had. I think they maybe still would've been around had they not decided to acquire Filene's Basement. You may want to try Nordstrom Rack.
  22. I didn't know such an extension was in the works. I can't find anything about it. Source?
  23. The QX80 is the Jimmy Durante of the automotive world.
