  1. The reason why we have so many feeders is that some of our freeways were built along old state and US highway corridors instead of new facilities being built near or parallel to the old roads. When these 2 lane and 4 lane divided highways were upgraded to freeways, businesses and residences along those highways that weren't condemned for the freeway still needed access, and that's one reason why feeders are so popular. Examples of this are outside the loop for the most part and include SH 249 from the Beltway northward, I-45 North from Shepherd Rd. to Conroe, US 59 from Jensen to Loop 494, 610 through Bellaire, and the Katy Freeway from 610 to Katy. 288 was one of the few freeways built here without continuous feeders, though that would've been a different story had the state built it upon Almeda Rd. as once planned.
  2. That's a museum for the 1940 Air Terminal. It's focused more on civil aviation.
  3. You state that, "Outside the loop, traffic in the off-peak direction almost always moves at posted speeds." That may be true in 2015, but look forward 10-20 years. Fort Bend County is growing, and we'll undoubtedly see more reverse commutes from Houston to Fort Bend. TxDOT needs to be proactive when spending all of this money to expand the SW Freeway than to expand it and find out that a two-way HOV is needed after all. For years, a one-way HOV was in the plans for I-45 from 1960 to Conroe as evidenced by the extra wide interior shoulders built when I-45 was widened. In the time between the widening of I-45 and the present day, reverse commuting from Houston to The Woodlands has increased, meaning both sides of I-45 are congested in the morning. So, the plans have changed from a one-way barrier separated HOV lane to a two-way HOV lane which is currently under construction to handle that extra traffic from reverse commutes. As far as design problems at Park and Ride facilities with a 2 lane HOV and a t-ramp, TxDOT has made such a design work on the Katy Freeway at the Addicks Park and Ride.
  4. Looks like the concept calls for the light rail to enter the campus via W. Bellfort, snaking down the west side of the campus before going down Holmes Rd along the UPRR ROW. The point on the rendering where the light rail goes down Holmes is further west than where the test track is.
  5. Foil hats are what the Government wants you to think works. If you want to block the gamma rays and Obama's Illuminati Chemtrails, wax paper hats are what you really need.
  6. It's funny that they supported Turner instead of Hall who had "no men in women's restrooms" plastered all over his signs. I guess those voters agreed with Hall on that one issue, but nothing else.
  7. Turner was pro-HERO, but King was anti-HERO so I think LGBTs will support Turner. King on HERO: http://abc13.com/uncategorized/bill-king-on-houston-equal-rights-ordinance/978284/
  8. They're putting up milemarkers now. There were reference markers before that looked like milemarkers, but they were inconsistent and were in the 500 mile range. These new markers are only in the 100s. This reflects "mile 0" being in Victoria, where it'll branch into I-69E to Corpus and Brownsville, and I-69W to Laredo (intersects with I-69C in George West).
  9. Here's the article about the HOV expansion. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/neighborhood/woodlands/news/article/Construction-finally-getting-underway-on-I-45-6580344.php
  10. That's very informative. I've been trying to figure out how the reconstruction of S. MacGregor between Almeda and 288 is being financed. It's not listed in any of the CIP or Rebuild Houston projects.
  11. Not for the initial phase, which is what we'll see built soon. The reversible toll lane will snake through the current interchange as you can see in this exhibit: http://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/hou/sh288_us59/harris_county_clear_creek.pdf Ultimate plans do call for the interchange to be rebuilt when the reversible toll lane is expanded and rebuilt into a 4 lane tollroad. When that happens, the toll lanes will run through the interchange where the current 288 mainlanes are, and the 288 mainlanes will be relocated to run through the edges of the interchange. http://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/hou/sh288_us59/bw8_ih610.pdf
  12. I think the Columbia Tap Rails to Trails ROW could revert back to rail one day for that reason.
  13. This looks an awful like the Houston skyline in this episode of The Simpsons from 2011.
  14. Centerpoint been doing this since about May. That's when I first started noticing them going up. They have had most of the street lamps along Jensen and in the Trinity Gardens and Kashmere Gardens areas upgraded to LED since the summer.
  15. That's interesting that they want to reduce the size of the detention pond for the parking lot. I worked for a dealership in Clear Lake that needed to expand their parking lot over a detention pond. They expanded parking without reducing the size of the detention pond by building the extension of the parking lot over the pond on a platform. I wonder why they can't do that in this case?
  16. I think what you're referring to happened at the Southwest Freeway location near the Westpark Curve.
  17. I haven't heard that being the plan, but it would be interesting if they did. I think it may been known as Hobby International from the time it was renamed for former Gov. Hobby from the old name of Houston International in 1967, until Intercontinental opened in 1969.
  18. I live about half a mile from 288. I can hear sirens, crotch rockets, and rice burners throughout the day and night. I mostly hear a rushing noise during the night from the traffic on the freeway. When the freeway flooded during Memorial Day, the neighborhood was definitely quieter with the absence of traffic. I can't imagine being only a few feet from the freeway. I wonder if these developments have more insulation to keep the noise down?
  19. The origin of my username goes back to the year Dickety seven. We had to say Dickety because the kaiser had stolen the phrase "two thousand". I chased him down and got the phrase back, but he stole my beautiful and exquisite username while my back was turned, so I had to replace it with some gibberish.
  20. The long term plans call for the spur to be extended south to Alvin and redesignated SH 35. Fun fact: Did you know SH 35 begins at the Jefferson St. onramp to I-45 and is multiplexed with I-45 to 610?
  21. Funny you ought to mention the trailer homes. Last week, I saw a trailer home in the subdivision on Cullen between Griggs and Yellowstone.
  22. 800 Bell St. needs a real smiley face at the top like your rendition does.
