Seeing it from above, sometimes I’m blown away at all the (attached or otherwise) townhomes we have now. It really wasn’t that long ago that we started building that type of housing in town, so seeing how ubiquitous they’ve become is pretty interesting.

I love this scale for these condo projects! It’d be cool if we had some mid-range ones

Courtyard At The Heights: Residential At 1606 W. 23rd St.
BEES?! replied to Htowntiger's topic in The Heights
I personally love the design of those houses. Very modern, but they incorporate wood into the facade which makes it cool and reminds me of older contemporary/modern homes. I am also digging the courtyard, though I am a little surprised they don’t appear to have included a pool -

Hold the phone, is this coming down? (I had a good laugh at one of the comments- “I hope we’re not losing another Houston staple” 😂😂)

That is a neat interior! I hope someone will redevelop it and keep the building -
Being skeptical on 3% drop in COH homicide rate
BEES?! replied to trymahjong's topic in Crime and Punishment
I largely agree with you. I get really frustrated with the normalization of crime as something we “just have to deal with”. I get that we have a few circumstances here that make it different than other countries , but like I said in the Homeless in Houston thread, sometimes it seems like people just want to throw their hands up and go “Welp, nothing we can do! People gonna do their thing!” and decriminalize/legalize antisocial behavior, instead of trying to actually get to the root of what causes it. -

It’s a good question for sure. I see POST mentioned quite in the DRA (I think?) meetings. I finally tried Andes Cafe recently! It was so good! I love tequeños, and theirs are pretty good. Not to mention their ceviche was off the chain. (I had their pescado ceviche) I think they’re my number 1 favorite now.

If one would be up for a drive, 99 at I-10 on a clear day has a really incredible view of the skylines converging. I’d think it’d be pretty easy to get a drone going up over there not far from La Centerra- you could really get a good view!

What does Houston mean to you?
BEES?! replied to Andrew Ewert's topic in General Houston Discussions
I like the answers here of “The Hospitality City” (in many senses of the word imo) and “The Workers’ City” (I also suppose that’s why we’re called “Hustle Town”, too :) ). They’re both very apt. I think “dichotomy” is an amazing descriptor too. I feel like we’re both extremely hospitable while also being kind of inward-facing and insular. Like people from Houston (and even most of the suburbs I’d reckon) are very “Houston-first” in a lot of ways that I find really difficult to put my finger on. Like of course there is a lot of Texas Pride, but it seems like people in Houston will identify with the city first before the state overall, at least I know I do (and so does my family who lives here). -
It’s not for a BOOST route, is it?

Texas Medical Center & Hermann Park TIRZ
BEES?! replied to Highrise Tower's topic in Texas Medical Center
This is gonna be great for them! I know Memorial Park receives some money from the Uptown TIRZ, so it sounds like this may help with speeding up the Hermann Park improvements, maybe? Very smart of them to do this before TMC3 comes online. And while I understand the criticism about the emergency water supply, TMC is special and different. It’s a large concentration of hospitals with vulnerable people, and if it prioritizes itself here, I really do not see the problem. I think ensuring that our Medical Center has access to emergency water is perfectly reasonable. -
I actually kinda love this name haha

FWIW riding in the summer does legitimately suck. It’s also worth keeping in mind that some people- and I speak from personal experience- are disabled or sick and may not be able to cope with the extreme heat in the summer, so they don’t cycle or walk. Sometimes it isn’t just a matter of choice- high heat and humidity can truly be dangerous for some segments of the population. But I also feel like sometimes people exaggerate Houston’s heat. I think from about Mid-Oct to May we have great outdoor weather for doing things like walking and cycling. And, we don’t have to contend with unruly topography, everything is pretty flat so it’s really not so bad to cycle or walk during those nice months.

It’d be neat if they could repurpose some of that top level of the garage for a cool amenity or something, like a nice garden, or dog run, or play spot

OMG Every time I see this thread bumped, I get super hyped that a new rendering got dropped or they suddenly announced that they’re saving Tranquility Park or something cool like that. but nope, it’s just another thread that’s turned into a brawl about the Astrodome…again 😭y’all are kiiiillling me.

We went to POST the other night to check out the lights, and I was stunned how much of downtown was lit up! Not just on Bagby, either. Many side streets had their trees decked out. Plus lots of tree displays in various office buildings, too. I’ll have to get the pics and I’ll post them here!

The Eastern Glades expansion alone was worth the wait- it is so beautiful and is an amazing place to go. I am so excited for more of Memorial Park’s projects to finish up!
