  1. Well at least your procrastination at work is sort-of tangentially related to what you do, right? If someone looks over your shoulder you can just show them the URL. “It’s an architecture forum! It’s work-adjacent at worst!”
  2. Houston has so much potential for solar installments like that. I had no idea the VA hospital one was so big! I feel like parking garage top floors would also be a good choice for those types of installs, too, because I hate parking at the top floor when it’s hot or fixing to rain. You get some electricity, you get another level of covered parking to protect from sun and rain. Win-win! I also agree, @Luminare, I think solar is at its best when it’s working alongside other uses. The arrays in the deserts are pretty cool though! I was so blown away when I was flying to CA and could see all the solar farms from the plane! Wow!
  3. That makes sense! I was at MKT the other day and kept thinking about all the amazing materials and textures incorporated into that development. I kept thinking of Montrose Collective- now I know why!
  4. What a cool photo. I like the way it’s slightly turned to the side, but it’s still framed nicely by the bridge and police memorial!
  5. Is the section before Chimney Rock going to come in a different phase? Or are they still hammering out the details of it and decided not to release a rendering of it right now? I’d thought that the University Line was gonna start before BW8
  6. Wow, great progress! I do hope the trees will pull through. This drought and heat are killer
  7. Maybe University Corridor ought to get its own thread soon?
  8. Good on the supreme court for actually siding with common sense on this one. I really hope this moves forward! (I’m also curious how much land they actually have left to acquire vs what they’ve acquired)
  9. Huh, so it looks like these will be loft-style? (2-story units?) if that render is anything to go by…
  10. Yes. They’re waiting on fed funds for both University and Inner Katy, I believe.
  11. Sad… I hope one day maybe a company like Brightline could resurrect this line- since they seem to be doing well in FL, if Amtrak doesn’t do it first. (I’d prefer someone who has ROW on the tracks though, otherwise it’s a pointless endeavor if you’re trying to get less people to make the drive)
  12. Nice shot! Even though it’s really hot outside, I love how green it is at this time of year.
  13. I don’t know how economically feasible commuter rail to the suburbs would be here right now. It seems like there isn’t a whole lot of constant demand (outside of commuting hours, I mean. Don’t most P&R routes not run on weekends?) for commuter service into town that would justify the billions and billions we’d need to make it happen. I could absolutely see the arguments for prioritizing certain high-frequency, high ridership local bus routes for conversion to BRT or rail before commuter rail to the suburbs. not to say there’ll never be a time where that’s the case, of course. I’m just not sure that time is today. We have really good road infrastructure that can be useful in the short-term to run busses on. Traffic issues can be pretty easily dealt with by separating a lane of traffic out (or like august948 mentioned running busses in HOV lanes) or having the busses on a guideway like Inner Katy (which will also benefit the p&r buses too, incidentally)
  14. Sounds like they want to get the Wheeler station area out of the way first. That’s good, since it’ll probably coincide well with the opening of the University Line. The Wheeler station re-do is something I’m very interested in.
  15. Yeah lol that makes a lot of sense- and why, I imagine, sky bridges are very prevalent in Med Center, too.
  16. Blue Sushi is, per their website, supposedly opening up on June 15th!! Oh boy I am so excited!!
  17. The dude on the right looks like he needs to fix some holes in his cardigan. I feel his pain- I’ve shredded a couple of mine carelessly when I threw them in the dryer. Oops. (on topic though, this is awesome news and will be a great connector for the upcoming Shepherd/Durham BRT station)
  18. I was thinking about it when I was reading about METRO’s service changes for June. P&Rs are pretty popular, and I believe they seat about 55 people on these commuter-style buses. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong) Some of the P&Rs got crazy busy pre-COVID, and the buses would fill up fast. Now, even with WFH a popular option, these routes are steadily recovering their ridership. And now, with the skyrocketing price of gas, I’m willing to bet we’ll see a jump in folks who can’t WFH use the P&Rs to save money on gas. So my question is, would METRO ever invest in larger commuter-style buses for their P&R routes? I know they can easily put more buses on a route, but I do wonder if there would be advantages to switching to a higher capacity bus on some of these routes. Furthermore, do articulated commuter-style buses exist? I know some places use double-decker commuter buses when they want higher capacity on certain routes, but they have their own disadvantages.
  19. not to get too off-topic, but the most recent proposal for days inn is mixed-income housing, as of feb 2021. I believe it’ll have market rate units.
