  1. There are some renderings of a few different concepts for the Wheeler Transit Center that were shown during the recent Capital & Strategic Planning Committee meeting. The section on Wheeler Transit Center starts from page 33 of the PDF here.
  2. Wow, I guess I missed this project. It’s really cool! Great for the residents of the area
  3. I love how the taller (apartment?) building looks. Kinda getting mid-century vibes from it. I like the brick choice a lot
  4. What are some of your favorite sushi spots, HAIFers? I’m always looking to try new places, as sushi is my favorite meal, lol. Some of the ones I’ve tried (in no particular order): Ka Sushi (Heights)- Pretty good, not outrageously expensive. They had some weird and fun creative rolls. Uchi (Montrose)- Of course! It was really good, I’d definitely go back, provided someone else is footing the bill :P. They had great non-sushi items, too. Very vegetarian/vegan friendly and they’ll do a veg omakase for you. They were super accommodating of my husband’s allergies, too. Tobiuo (Katy)- Great sushi at reasonable prices (compared to Something more expensive like Uchi). If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by. These guys are also behind Kanau in Midtown (I’ve yet to go there. I think they’re more sashimi-focused) and the upcoming Money Cat in Upper Kirby. Blue Sushi Sake Grill (will be in MKT Heights development)- this isn’t open yet, but I had them when I was in Dallas. They have great sushi, and lots of creative vegetarian/vegan options- moreso than some places I’ve been to. A lot of times I just wind up going to Kura, lol, which is fine, but I also wanna try more “fancy” places.
  5. I think having a heavily programmed park in this prt of Downtown makes a lot of sense. They obviously want to liven up the street level since it’s honestly kinda lifeless right now over there. Having things that people will want/need to use day in and day out, like a playground for the kids, a dog run for the people living nearby, and a little cafe where people can grab a drink and sit, all make a lot of sense. If this were a more happening part of town, I could see the value in a less programmed space, maybe something more natural, or just a nice big lawn.
  6. How do they not get seriously hurt/killed if, say, a strong gust of wind blows in? From the top of a high rise building, that has to be dangerous AF. that’d be my #1 fear lol
  7. Oh yes, I saw them open, too, but forgot to mention it! I haven’t tried them, but a buddy of mine says they’re pretty good!
  8. That would make sense, yeah. Sorta unrelated, but not- how do condos situated in the same building as a hotel work in practice? What are some of the pros/cons versus an all-condo highrise project, or all-hotel rooms? Condo fees tend to be pretty steep, just from my glancings at HAR (and personal experience when we were trying to get our first home.)- is that different when the condo shares the building with a hotel? (Or really, any other use. I’m guessing a lot of HOA fees in a highrise is structural maintenance/keeping the reserve fund in case of emergency maintenance. I’m imagining if you’re splitting the building with something like a grocery store, they eat some of that cost, right?) Just curious!
  9. That really helps explain it, @Luminare, thanks for writing it all out. I’ve wondered this. It certainly wouldn’t shock me. This line would just print money for TCR, and take a bite out of airline profits.
  10. Ramen Moto is now open at POST, btw. I went today, expecting to give the pizza a try, but- as I predicted- I ended up going back to Chop n blok again lol (can you blame me though? It’s so good.) There were people doing some kind of employee training at The Alley, so I’m guessing they’re fixing to open soon. I haven’t seen any buildout starting for Common Desk yet- anyone know where in POST it’s going to be, exactly? Not a late-in-the-day April Fools Day prank, is this? 🤔 I plan to go to the Via Colori fest tomorrow. It looks like it’ll be lit.
  11. Damn, yeah that is…ominous.
  12. Interesting. So is it kind of like Seismique?
  13. Oh yay! I saw they appeared to be getting ready over the weekend- couldn’t exactly tell what they were up to! Exciting! I’ll have to give them a try next time I’m there! (if I don’t end up just going to chop n blok again lol!!!)
  14. Metro flyover video. the comments are pretty funny lol
  15. Oh, no way, it’s too hard to pick just one! I kinda hoped there were a way to do polls on here- alas. I think it would’ve been very interesting to see the results
  16. What is your favorite park in Houston, and why? I really love Discovery Green and Buffalo Bayou Parks. Both of them for being catalysts for further development, and for being well-programmed spaces. I’d have to give the edge to BBP, though, because it really feels like you’re stepping into a totally different place when you take the trails near the water versus when you’re at street level! I just love how nicely planted it is- it feels very “wild” for being smack dab in the middle of some of the busiest parts of the city!
