  1. When I was a kid and the bayou near us would get full, we absolutely saw kids boogie boarding and swimming in it like wtf. Same with the streets.
  2. New transportation app released the other day, it’s called Houston ConnectSmart https://www.houstonconnectsmart.com I’ve been playing around with it. I really like the carpool group feature. You can see traffic cameras on the map. It lists all BCycle stations and how many bikes are available at each one. The bike route comfort levels is a neat feature too, and is nice for a less-confident cyclist like myself. I think it would be nice if they had a layer that made bus route info a bit easier to understand. You can see the names of the stops, but it’s not immediately clear to which numbered route they belong. If they could fix that somehow, that would be very helpful.
  3. How did I not even know about this? Seriously, this sounds really cute and fun! Haha true. Ballpits are kinda nasty when you think about it- ain’t no way they ever got cleaned or disinfected. That said, my iron-clad immune system thanks me for always jumping in them when we went out to eat.
  4. There is a seriously untapped market here, and we could be on the cutting-edge of this one. Hear me out: Sled Gators. Take a boat, hook up twelve or so gators to it, and let them pull your boat down the bayou, Iditarod-style. I don’t know how you’d keep them moving. Maybe put a lure with a chicken on it in the very front. This could be a fun, unique tourist draw. People always complain we aren’t a tourist city, and I think this would be a great start to get something going. We’d be utilizing our under-utilized bayous AND show off our local wildlife. Win-wins all around.
  5. Hmm, good question. I’m not really sure why that might be. Maybe Brays just doesn’t get as much silt for one reason or another?
  6. The bayou looks a lot different during the months when there’s less (rainfall) runoff flowing into it. It was actually quite pretty this year because of the drought. Nothing really can be done about the color- our soil type and composition don’t lend us to having clear water, unlike Central Texas for example 🙃
  7. Weren’t there also some delays with materials coming from Australia, too?
  8. It’s always a great sign when a childcare facility pops up!
  9. I am also not sure if The Esperson bldg partial conversion is because of the DRA study or if it was just the building’s owners reacting to market changes. (I’m guessing the latter) but I’m super interested to see the buildings that will convert in the coming years. The management district has set a goal to add 5k new residents by 2027, I believe.
  10. From the DRA’s meeting, it sounds like they may have a couple in mind. Not sure which ones though
  11. Really interesting. I’m curious why that hasn’t caught on more in the US? Price maybe?
  12. Dude wtf…That poor woman. Glad to hear it wasn’t serious
  13. I imagine a lot faster too. Probably why the DRA wants to facilitate quicker conversions of these underutilized buildings into something that’ll bring more life downtown
  14. Their FB had a live event where they talked about future concepts taking over the parking lot- of course that was well before they’d opened so I wouldn’t be surprised if ideas change as the project evolves. The one I’m excited to see movement on is the possible hotel in the front part of the building. (It’s like 5 or 6 stories)
  15. I agree. I’m really excited to see where they take this space next!
  16. It makes me nervous like it’s about to tip over .. Museum district is really out there getting the, ah, ”creative” towers, aren’t they?
  17. Buildout for Common Desk was underway today. There were workers there. It’s on the first floor in the Z atrium.
  18. I hope they’ll be able to fix it and people will be able to go home. It sucks having to be forced out of your home- I know it all too well. I’m so glad it doesn’t sound like there’s structural integrity concerns here. I was scared for a Surfside, FL collapse situation unfolding. (When it happened I was really spooked by it) I’m glad that everyone was promptly evacuated and it wasn’t worse.
