what does your HAIF AVATAR symbolize... why did you choose it?
cspwal replied to monarch's topic in HAIF on HAIF
I really liked the Houston skyline I made and figured it was a good avatar for a Houston forum -

According to Swamplot, permits for "a 4,297-sq.-ft. pavilion, a ticket canopy, and a bathroom building" have been approved, as well as "broader sitework". They liked Hindesky's photo (and gave him credit) Here's the site plans for reference (I hadn't seen zoomed in versions)

Eighteen25 Downtown: Multifamily At 1825 San Jacinto St.
cspwal replied to Urbannizer's topic in Downtown
Pretty impressivlely fast too considering they had parking garage floors to do first before the residential - this one seems to be all concrete construction, none of that "wood" stuff- 285 replies

I just noticed - are the pictures indicating location (east end, downtown, travelling haifer, etc) gone? Or am I just not seeing them for some reason?

A lot of that land is owned by Metro. I agree that they should do something about it - though I suspect that some of the land is being banked for commuter rail station platforms and the University line station platforms. However, right now it should be one of the busiest interchange terminals in the system and instead it feels like a place you want to leave asap. It probably affects the ridership of the New Bus Network(tm)

It's difficult to get to from the freeway exits that are there, it's not super on the way for people going to/from the med center, it's not the nicest walk from Wheeler to that location, and remember a McDonald's that was at Richmond and Main closed too a while back

Having a high speed train frequented by business people that would be served by a light rail extension would help that extension go through
-
It is that private company's money to waste. It's not any of our money, unless you're one of their investors. A private rail line being scuttled now, even if it doesn't go to downtown, makes it even less likely any company would try it again in the future.

Market Square Tower: 40-Story High-Rise At 777 Preston St.
cspwal replied to Urbannizer's topic in Downtown
I count 35 floors completed and windowed in the tower itself 3 floors completed concrete wise 1 floor for the pool deck 2 floors of podium(?) That would bring the count to 40 full floors, 1 rooftop floor, and another story above it for the crown- 1,894 replies

So building this loop through developed areas is fine, but building a high speed link to Dallas and Houston from here is bad?

That would be for around the jails and courthouse though. MMP is a bit further east and south

Like the picture. HATE the name. "Neado"? What is that even short for? "Near Downtown"? - no its in downtown. North East downtown maybe? Still doesn't seem right especially since they have a GIANT baseball stadium right next door to name the area after. NE downtown would be where city lofts is, where there are still plenty of vacant lots
