  1. That was my first thought, but going through the older threads on this forum I saw a picture of a rail car arriving on a flat bed truck. Also, the light rail spur doesn't connect to the freight line next to it at all. What is especially weird is that it is single tracked, not double tracked.
  2. I was walking around yesterday and noticed that there appears to be a light rail track that goes along Holmes from the MetroRail depot for 1.7 miles. The rails are rusted, and there's bushes growing into it, so it's not used very often if at all. Any ideas what it is?

Idk about inefficient - I take it from Houston House to market square a lot. Though you're right that it is a bit east of the primary areas in Midtown.
  4. I've taken the train for that ride solely to avoid that block. But it seems like people are starting to hang out in the parking lot across from bell station now
  5. Yeah I only ever get to see the view sitting at the red lights on Hamilton. Some higher views would be great
  6. Does this seem to be going slowly to anyone else? Or am I just nuts?
  7. Intriguing. Maybe they are going to have the larger 2-3 bedroom apartments on the back, and the smaller ones at the front? Or maybe the apartments will just be wider since they will have to be narrower than the front. That would allow them to have more units on the better view.

If we're going on small sample sizes, everyone I know who lives in my high rise 1 block from the light rail rides it at every opportunity.
  9. I thought part of the plan was retail spaces in the two parks?
  10. Weird. I wonder why they have two maps with different information?
  11. It is on the new interactive map as the Capitol Tower http://www.downtownhouston.org/development/project/capitol-tower/
  12. It could go either way on the wood framing - it's about the same height as Alexan midtown and that was wood framed

The ridership numbers compared to replaced busses are something I hear sometimes, but I've never seen references. Which lines were eliminated when the red line opened? How do you find historical ridership data for them?
  14. I was looking at the current development map and it looks like this one is missing from the interactive map but is on the printable map. Has it been tabled?

With their proximity to the Green/Purple line, I would call Catalyst and Finger ballpark near the rail line, but they're not on it you're correct. Looking at just the downtown development map Red line: - Hines Market Square (Preston station) - 609 Main (Central Station Main) - 1111 Travis (Main Street Square) - Hotel Alessandra (Main Street Square) - Block 334 (Bell Station) - SkyHouse Houston (Bell Station) - SkyHouse Main (Downtown Transit Center) Downtown Green/Purple line: - The Houston club demolition to a tower/parking garage - Texaco Building (redevelopment, but will include new construction) - HISD high school for drama - Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites - Marriott Marquis - 40 story building next to the Hess building - Alexan Downtown - George R Brown Office building and garage - its being built literally on the rail line There's more development in Midtown on the redline, in the east end and east downtown, townhomes going up near UH and the purple line in the third ward, so many things mentioned on this site are near the rail lines
  16. Anyone else notice the first rendering has two way traffic on Travis?
  17. It looks like big blast screens were covering the building, but got stuck after only the first few floors
  18. I think I understand where the monorail would be going, but where would those cable cars be going? The new 102 story super tall on the Astrodome site?
  19. Saw this building in a photo in another thread, but didn't recognize it. Checked Google time machine street view - looks like it was demolished in April 2011. Either the financing fell through because of the recession or the building was in bad condition (there was some mentioning of the facade falling off). Anyway - it's a surface lot now and entrance to the other building on the block. Hope something goes up there someday :/
  20. I don't know - the red smokestacks add some coloring to what would otherwise be yet another giant expanse of flat, boring roof
  21. According to the latest development map (April 2015) Probably got demoted because the tower is no longer going up in this cycle, and the main building is there. And remember that parking garages can go up fast
  22. If done right (with some Metro connections of some sort) it could allow office workers to get away with no car during the work day - usually those areas you'd have to drive to get lunch somewhere.
