  1. Minute Maid park and the Toyota center are going to look so urban and developed around in those ariel shots the TV always runs during commercials - no sea of parking lots but instead high rises and mid rises
  2. Is there any knowledge on why 288 was built so wide, and with so few crossings? I hear a lot about it dividing up neighborhoods, killing businesses on Almeda, etc. but no reasons for its routing and size
  3. It was unclear in the article what the budget rider would do - would it disallow TxDot from giving TCR a train permit? Or what?
  4. Also, for anyone interested, I found an article about when the Social Security office closed. http://houston.culturemap.com/news/real-estate/01-17-13-15-15-social-security-administration-plans-to-close-office-after-losing-lease-on-1940s-midtown-building/ I'm intrigued by the idea of llamas wandering around outback - I wonder if Whole Foods would be interested in having llamas?
  5. http://swamplot.com/new-midtown-whole-foods-market-will-stand-apartments-on-its-head-shut-down-a-street-become-center-of-universe/2015-05-08/ The more I look at this, the smarter this seems. It's going to have an entrance on Smith, so people leaving work from downtown can shop on their way home. That's three markets they can capture with this location (pedestrians in midtown, single family homes in Montrose, and the workers from downtown) The article mentions that the entrance/exits are aligned with where Rosaile is now, so I wonder if they will even touch the street or just build over it
  6. The freeway was shut down, and these are all drivers, wandering helpless with their cars out of fuel sitting on entrance ramps
  7. Have we seen in renders of this from the main street side? Wondering how it will fit in with the other buildings...
  8. I would be willing to have the lots under the current pierce elevated be sold and half of them stay parking lots if we could get that park deck built
  9. Depends on if they actually put the park deck over the trenched super-freeway or not. If they do, it might make east downtown a part of downtown, with the park deck running down the middle like a promenade or something.
  10. Or maybe come to the southern end of downtown, once more of those apartments come online. There's a few vacant lots right next to the freeway and everything
  11. Smith @ Elgin is pretty far from either station - its 4 blocks to main, and then another 4 blocks either way to get to a light rail station
  12. Maybe it will have apartments. Has anyone heard of a project there though?
  13. There isn't a multi-family building there now, so I suspect not
  14. I hope that watch tower isn't demolished
  15. Also the windows looking at the towering building of glass will have a better view than the Skyhouse windows' view of the side of a parking garage
  16. Walked by tonight and looks like there is a liquor license up for "Your Pie" - a make your own pizza type place
  17. Oh ok. It's still labeled Midtown park on Google, so I wasn't sure
  18. Some interstates are dual signed - 410/35 in San Antonio as well as 75/64 in Lexington come to mind - but the lack of weaving would make sense. Still wonder though if you couldn't get more flow through with it all one giant highway - you would get two more lanes in each direction from removing the extra shoulders. But of course you add lanes, the traffic will come...
  19. Is the new midtown park fully open? The chain link fence is gone, people are using it, but one of the gates to the dog run is padlocked. (There's two gates but only one is padlocked)
  20. Why are the highways separated instead of merging and then splitting off? I assume its to increase speed but how so?
  21. There's also more vacant lots around the Toyota Center. There's not many more surface lots around Market square
