  1. It's a single image. Kind of the opposite of the Hotel Sorella. We might go from "moo" to "pretty good" before too long.
  2. Now, if they can just amend the legals to be Fannie/Freddie compliant....
  3. I will be a bit more confident the building is moving forward once excavation actually begins. Getting rid of an existing building saves taxes and steels against potential liability because an empty lot is cheaper than an empty apartment building.
  4. Is there a 4-man crew working this or something? I wonder how long it will take to put the interior finishes on this.
  5. Mostly empty, maybe. But it will form part of the skyline. And it's not as though one empty tower will impact retail development in this area. Mostly empty, maybe. But it will form part of the skyline. And it's not as though one empty tower will impact retail development in this area.
  6. http://www.houstongovnewsroom.org/go/doc/2155/2495706/ Interesting. I don't think there is an aircraft that can do IAH-BOM nonstop (although the language used was "direct"). I wonder if Diaz might seek 5th freedoms, for a routing such as IAH-MAD-BOM. Get a couple of cities on the wishlist off in one swoop. His track record has been very good. Maybe he just wants a bigger challenge at this point.
  7. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/united-announces-record-first-quarter-113000852.html UA has confirmed its order for 10 777-300ER's. UA is keeping the entire 767 and using the same to replace the 757 on trans-Atlantic routes. Looks like we may get a few more 757's for Latin America flying--could be a good way to upgauge IAH-BOG as well as potentially launch certain new routes such as Houston-Manaus (if the demand is there), Houston-Santa Cruz, Bolivia (on the outside edges of the 757-200's capabilities, but the Bolivian gas industry might fuel demand one day). UA will also add 10 777-200's to the domestic fleet.
  8. I am not keen on keeping all six lanes of the Pierce Elevated. However, keeping certain 3 lane portions and widening to six around the western edge turn north could be very cool. Having fewer lanes might eliminate some of the lighting issues (there's much less of a cavern under merely three lanes as opposed to six. Additionally, keeping the three lanes would make it possible to have some upgrades to promote mood lighting underneath--I've thought having LED's under a freeway that could change colors would make the areas much brighter and more pedestrian friendly. If they are going to trench 59/69/45 east of Downtown, it would be nice to cap that off to create additional green space (as well as the newly trenched portion by me in the Museum District but that is for another topic). The newly created green space could then be linked to Buffalo Bayou on thenortheast and the former Pierce Elevated on the southwest. The former Pierce would then link up to Buffalo Bayou again on the West. If we could improve the trails and parkspace running along Buffalo Bayou on the north side of Downtown, we would have a nice green ring surrounding the central business district. Anyhoo, just my thoughts.
  9. Tillman was filming some sort of video for this outside of my office earlier. Couldn't get a good photo of him, unfortunately.
  10. I guess that would explain what all the equipment has been doing now that the surface parking has been finished. The rendering suggests they will keep the trees, and I think this will be a much nicer structure to look at than the Old Republic Title building next to the Landry's HQ.
  11. Good catch. I think the "e" in "bella" is pronounced slightly differently, but the emphasis is on the same syllable. Normally, my inclination would be to emphasize the second-to-last syllable ("a-ra-BEL-la"), but that accent mark makes me think a-RA-bel-la. It is is a nice looking building, but RD has to have something about a project that is slightly off. Next, maybe we will find out the "e" in "Marlowe" is not silent.
  12. It looks a bit like a poor man's version of the Austonian. (Aside: isn't the denonym for Austin an "Austinite?" How the heck did the developer arrive at "Austonian?") In any event, the design is pretty solid and would serve as a nice gap filler between the San Felipe Plaza and the smaller skyline of Westchase.
  13. I think the building looks quite nice. However, I agree that rendering is odd. Apparently, it will be constructed in the post-apocalyptic Houston after most of the city has reverted back to swampland.
  14. Would be another nice addition to the Uptown skyline. Apache just sold an Australian subsidiary for $2.1 billion, supposedly to refocus on North America. That might give them some capital to move forward on this.
  15. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11433100 It's official. Welcome to H-Town, Air New Zealand!
  16. A few days ago, Air New Zealand indicated it would announce a new US destination: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11431981 Today, we have a press release indicating a major route announcement out of Houston: http://www.houstongovnewsroom.org/go/doc/2155/2491438/ So, it looks like IAH-AKL might happen after all.
  17. This has been topped off. There appears to be drywall going in on the other side of the building.
  18. It would be nice to utilize underpass space. Is Poppa's worth a try? I walked by it for the first time last Saturday.
  19. I thought it was 52 stories on top of a 6-story podium for a total of 58. 859 feet would be quite nice.
  20. With this and the new Texas Children's Tower going up in close proximity, the TMC skyline is set to have another nice growth spurt.
  21. Now that the Inner Loop section of 59 has been rechristened as I-69 as well, I am waiting for one of these projects to take advantage of a double entendre as a name. ;-)
