  1. Absent strong evidence of this actually going forward, would this topic be more appropriate for a "what if" board? I would also like to dust off discussions of the the old Bank of the Southwest tower in the "Going Up" section, but I just do not think that is in the cards. Of course, I would be delighted to hear indications that this still might actually be going up.
  2. Between SkyHouse, RD's SoHo, this, the Wilshire, and the Amegy HQ, this strip inside the Loop is developing quite a skyline.
  3. City Vista in DC. The Safeway is on the lower-level and was my grocery store for three years.
  4. I don't think they'd go up in the area, but I also think these would look really neat at that plot catty-corner to where the Southmore is going up in the Museum District.
  5. Looking forward to having the option of flying WN to Mexico. Will this actually affect UA's schedule to MEX?
  6. I Have dreamt about that as well. We just need the Powerball to get back to $500 million (and win) and we can work on making it happen. I'd also like land bridges over Hermann Park Drive for a more continuous park space.
  7. Sad. Meanwhile, the family law center lives on......
  8. Getting back to topic, I doubt we will see much above ground level by the time the Super Bowl comes around. If this gets going in 2016, I suspect it would be in the 2nd half of the year. I am ever optimistic that it will get built eventually, but Chevron can keep that lot blank to their heart's content without a significant tax or liability-risk hit.
  9. It makes sense that Edens would want to "evaluate" the options in the pipeline. Having a more national portfolio, it makes sense that Edens might invest elsewhere if they have a chance of a higher return on investment.
  10. Thank bloody goodness. I drive a 2004 Jeep Wrangler and have bottomed out on the northbound portion north of Holly Hall when driving to my buddy's place on El Paseo.
  11. It looks like HAS has abandoned the parallel concourse model (a la Atlanta and Denver) from the old master plan in favor of two mega north and south concourses. I think this is far more practicable and should permit continued growth at IAH.
  12. I will be very curious as to the style of buildings that will go up here. I will be delighted if some highrises are included (and given that there is only so much land on which the TMC can grow, a slow highrise development might just be necessary).
  13. So, we add a light-up crown in the shape of a Chevron to get this thing's height over 900 feet (and maybe a little bit over the Williams Tower). Now, all I need to do is persuade Chevron that this is a good use of their money. :-)
  14. I didn't think the statement was necessarily wishy-washy or inconsistent. It sounded to me as though Chevron is committed to moving forward eventually, but that the tower might be subject to further delays depending on how the market shakes out. I would love to see a 2016 start but would not be shocked for a push into 2017 or 2018. However, given the really long drought this city had in skyscraper construction (the skyline barely changed when I was growing up here in the 90's), a delay of a few years is not so bad.
  15. Well, at least the quote indicated "until 2016" and not "until 2016 at the earliest." I am optimistic this will move forward, but the timeline just might be a bit slower than we would like. However, I think it will--simply by virtue of its bulk and height--ad quite the presence to the Downtown skyline and act as a counterbalance to the south of the Wells Fargo Plaza.
  16. This building seen from a distance. The photo is a bit grainy, as I used the zoom on the iPhone to isolate the building:
