  1. I think the new Terminal C north should have an A380 capable gate when complete (though that is a ways off). We might see the UA A380 on some domestic runs out of Terminal D at low times--the airport would love the buzz.
  2. http://seekingalpha.com/article/3228646-implications-of-a-united-airlines-a380-superjumbo-order My lone contact close to the airline indicates there is some veracity to this rumor. UA has struggled to expand on some of the trunk SFO-Asia routes, and the A380 might help them do so. Come 2020, UA would have a longhaul mix of 787's (all three variants), the A350-1000, the 777-200ER and -300ER, and some remaining 767-300ER and -400ER's. One has to think the 747's would go to the desert if the A380's come aboard. Anyone else heard about this?
  3. That's right by the Wheeler Transit Center. Would be nice to start redeveloping those parking lots.
  4. The digging on this site continues. Of note in the photo below, an excavator can be seen moving around a palm tree near the Landry's HQ:
  5. I still listen to "Roundball Rock" (the John Tesh NBA on NBC theme) to get pumped for games. I have also been Capella's "U Got 2 Know" lately--it was the Rockets' starting lineup song back in 1995. After Game 6, I think the Rockets can beat anybody. With a bit of luck, we might even get Bev back for part of this series--that cast is supposed to come off very soon.
  6. I have a client out in Port Huron, Michigan--the northern terminus of I-69. Oddly enough, they feel more connected to Houston with the I-69 designation even though the whole road is not yet complete. I think Wharton County is the next big section slated for redevelopment and rechristening down south. I-12 currently runs north of Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana. I-14 has been proposed in some eastern states as the "14th Amendment" highway. I think there has been talk of extending it over by Fort Hood near Killeen. Perhaps I-10 could be redesignated as I-10/I-12 for a ways west of their current juncture until they split again in Houston to head up the current route of 290 to Austin. If funding could be had, the I-12 designation might be run further west around Fredericksburg to meet up at I-10 again. Alternatively, it might be run a bit further north to intersect the proposed I-14 at Menard.
  7. If METRO gets a provision on the ballot, they would be wise to win the fight on how the proposal is worded on the ballot. I agree that their best bet would be to shoot for a measure on the 2016 November general election ballot. It will be a presidential election year, when turnout tends to be much higher. Harris County tends to vote bluer and, correspondingly, more pro-rail, in presidential election years (aside: this leads to great frustration for lawyers because we often lose a lot of good judges due to the change of the political winds).
  8. The last time the Rockets came back from a 3-1 deficit to face the team with the NBA's best record and the league MVP.....1995 against the Spurs.
  9. Moving right along. There brick and stone are along the side to start giving the building its facade.
  10. I wonder if this refers to the Georgian Apartments. Those look ripe for redevelopment. The "River Oaks" moniker continues its spread, similar to how everything north of I-10 and west of I-45 inside the Loop has become the "Heights."
  11. I like it. With a bit of success, this might inspire high-visibility mixed use development between the Spur and 69 (yes, I am trying out the new interstate moniker) near where the Fiesta currently stands.
  12. I saw this Notice of Variance sign for multifamily at Mt. Vernon and the feeder by 69. It appears an LLC with this name was registered back in March.
  13. 88 story skyscraper over a new high speed rail terminal. Let's do this Houston.
  14. Some rebar appears to be going up for the second floor. I think this is moving faster than Block 334, though:
  15. I drove by the sales center today. I noticed they have painted over the accent on the second "A." So, the pronunciation of this thing should no longer accidentally rhyme with "parabola."
  16. People Express became Continental when Frank Lorenzo acquired it. The UA EWR hub had its origins with People Express. I think British Caledonian flew here way back in the day.
  17. There are co-ops in New York. Folks own shares in a cooperative that entitles them to use of a certain unit. The cooperative owns the building. The model is seldom, if ever, seen outside of New York. Most lenders are unfamiliar with it and unwilling to provide financing based on it. Austin has the irritating "site condo" model of ownership, but that simply defines a single family home as a "unit" within a condo regime.
  18. I find edging oddly therapeutic. Not a fan of mowing my lawn, even if it is small.
  19. Look at that route. Putting the "E" in ETOPS.
  20. Any chance we see IAH-VVI (Santa Cruz) when UA transitions their 757's off Trans-Atlantic routes? It should be within the plane's capabilities. I just don't know if the gas industry has the demand to drive the route.
  21. I think China airlines was IAH-SEA-TPE. Airbus A340 variant.
