  1. As a matter of fact, this past Monday Night Football game, it was given a mention by the sports announcers. So, I guess we still claim it.
  2. HnI, I only remeber Ms. Ruth really. She wasn't even my teacher, but all the boys had a crush on her. She was young and hot. Was Mr. Lindsey the principal ?
  3. Daniel, that's the kind of stories I'm looking for. I can remember watching the first shuttle launch in the school auditorium/gym/lunch room. I also remember the whole school watching Ol' Yeller in that auditorium also. As a 5th grader, I won the talent show in 1981 with a ventriliquist act. I remeber my first girlfriend there also, her name was Karen Wehr, you may have gone to school with her brother Wesley.
  4. Nope, I didn't challenge my tax appraisal, because when I sold the property this year, I wanted the appraisal to be higher than what I was asking for it, and it worked. HCAD is like a Kelley Blue Book Tanith. I am 150% positive you would pull out a KBB or NADA if you were trading your little red sportscar in and the dealership had offered $6k below KBB to take it off your hands, because that is what the auction and market bears, or do you just throw that book out the window and say, "Oh well!" when negotiating your new car purchases? If so, come see me, we'll get along just fine. And no, HCAD is not going to update their records based on what the property sells for, unless you go down to the courthouse and dispute it, but I bet you won't be disputing ANYTHING when it comes time for you to sell instead of buy. You'll be pointing at the neighbor's a couple of houses down to prospective buyers, saying things like, "Theirs is on the market for $35,000 more than mine, and it's the same house."
  5. WHAT ? You better talk to a bank and the county tax appraiser on that one Tanith. I bet you think your Cavalier is worth more than what someone is willing to pay for it.
  6. What year did it turn into a Magnet School. I am almost 100% sure it wasn't when I went there, so I was wondering about that also.
  7. There are some banks that do have a program like that. They will offer you a certain amount of money to help with the moving expenses and such, if you will move out in a timely manner and leave the property unharmed. It is only a couple of thousand dollars I think, there is a name for this procedure, I forget what it's called though.
  8. How long have you been with your bank ? I would go to them first, and tell them the situation. 740 beacon and provable income, and never late on your current home, I would say that you are in. At least in the car world you are. The bank is dying for customers like you, they will most likely accept your terms.
  9. I am looking for anyone who may have gone to Wainwright Elem. on Milwee dr. just off 290 over by Scarborough Highschool. Especially interested if you went there in the late 70's or early 80's. Hoping for some of your memories of this great school. I will start with remembering they always had the best Halloween Carnivals, and the Talent Show every year. Thanks in advance.
  10. The theater only housed 3 screens and is now where you can buy your Tollway Tags. I recall seeing Disney's "The Black Hole" there, also saw another movie there and a fire broke out and we all had to exit.
  11. I think they had much slimmer chimneys back then.
  12. Crunch, go look at the Sloane Party thread. That is something I can make it down for. The 19th also works, but this thing on the 20th would be SWEET.
  13. Ummmm, I am thinking this should possibly be the HAIF gathering for HH this year. Oh Sloane Dear......would a little BYOB be appropriate, as I am assuming there will only be wine and possibly beer at this little suarey ? BTW, is that Irving Thalberg, head of MGM production in 1924, shaking hands with Santa ? It sure looks like him.
  14. Eve, are you looking to sell these materials, or are you just hoping someone will want to recycle them ? If you just want to recycle, put a big sign up in the front of the house saying, FREE building materials, or FREE wood, with a date on the sign showing how long you will allow people to go and take it out of there. You will be amazed at how many contractors will be there. They will salvage the windows, the copper piping, the floors, the beams. I recently saw this happen to an old 40's pillbox here in Austin recently. I have no doubt those people saved a bundle on DEMO, by having people with know how do it for them for FREE.
  15. Squatter's rights usually takes about 10 years to accomplish Ed. If you can stay on a piece of property for 10 years , how you prove that is beyond me, then apparently you have the right to stay there, at least that used to be the case. I have been reading up and I think it may actually only be 3 years in Texas now though.
  16. You talk about a deflator. The whole town up here has a black cloud over it. I could care less, although I like UT. The point spread though, shows that if just one guy, ONE coach had pushed a different button, UT would be in. Guess Mack should have kept his mouth instead of trying to plead his case about the BCS and agreeing with Obama about a playoff system. I blame Obama mostly for this (sniff) tragedy (sniffle).
  17. Don't tell her I told you, but I think you are about 3 miles away there. I wanted to stop at that beach also, but we were getting pressed for time because we were getting married that day. BTW, how cool were those Eucalyptus trees on the way ?
  18. You think those lights will last , hmmmm...let's see here. 3000/5= 50years, just to break even. Point is, wait until the old lights burn out before replacing with new. LOL! meme, I was a little more generous, I gave the Mayor $5 a month for the next 50yrs. Does anyone else have outdoor Xmas lights that are 50yrs. old ? 40yrs ? 15yrs? Anyone ? I think it is a nice gesture, and those LEDs certainly will be much brighter, I'm just sayin'.
  19. LOL! , you got any pics of the Black Sand beach ? I am pretty sure you made it to Hana, or just outside. You saw it all, the 600 turns of road and waterfalls is what the trip is all about.
  20. SO, the Mayor has to spend $3000 in lights to save $5 on the electric ? Sure, that makes sense. Did he at least donate the old lights to some folks less fortunate who can use them on their tree or house ?
  21. Well, that's about it I guess, you can't take the road around the rest of the island that spits you out over by Kihea because of volcanic rock being deposited there not too long ago, and it destroyed the road. SO you did make it to Hana, right?
  22. Growing up we did. Now I'm married to one. ACK! (vase flies at TJones' head !)
  23. The Ritz is nice, it's right by Ironwood Beach, where we got married at sunset, and it was windy at dusk also. LOL! Yeah, the road to Hana is a killer, if you loved it, you must have been driving, I was when we went and that's how I avoided being sick, that's the trick. Wouldn't want to do that again if I didn't have to, so only 3/4 of the way ? You didn't make it to the Black Sand beaches then ? As far as those winds, I think those tradewinds move over the island at different times of the day, LOL! Staying at the Ritz really makes it where there is no need to go anywhere else on the island, glad you got to see the Volcano. Congrats on the whole married thing.
  24. Where'd you stay ? Lahaina, Ki'hea, Four Seasons ? I ask because Maui is where my wife and I got married and honeymooned as well. Did you take the Road from HELL, I mean to HANA ?<--- I am getting carsick just thinking about it.
  25. I'm gonna do that, thanks sara.
