  1. Subdude is officially my new HERO ! You should go take a picture of Knapp Chevy on Washington.
  2. When was city streets a tejano nightclub ? I mean, sure, they play country music, but didn't know city streets had turned into that ? I think I could honestly draw a picture of the old Windsor, and scan it on here. I may do that. If we can't find any old pics.
  3. Ummmm, how long you been here KJB ? They couldn't find a cd player that wouldn't skip during the playback for Ashlee, so she is out.
  4. You need to lower your expectations my friend, so you won't be disappointed.
  5. Take her to The Grotto at 610 and Westheimer. It is not pretentious, and it is not a dive. Good food, good atmosphere, and a girl cannot read anything into it. If you take her to a over priced restaurant, trying to impress her, then she knows you are way to excited about the date. If you take her to a hole in the wall, or McDonald's, she's gonna be wondering who this cheap bastard is ? It is just a hop, skip, and jump from downtown, so you could go to a couple of bars afterwards, or find something close around there, but The Grotto, will allow you two time to talk and get to know each other, order a bottle of wine, or if she wants a cocktail, they can make anything there. Good Luck !
  6. That game against the "Clots" should be a real bloodbath ! I can't wait. BTW, Red, if you don't feel like using any of your tickets, I'll be happy to go in your place old buddy, ol' pal of mine. Let me know chum !
  7. Well, I think Satan is gonna need a fur coat, The Texans finally won a game !
  8. I apologize, HATCU, was actually in a twin building behind the HISD building, they looked very similar, but I just found out the HATCU building was torn down, by HISD. I knew I wasn't going crazy. Just a little off on my bearings. I apologize.
  9. I don't know how many of you know, but this building was originally, the HATCU building, or Houston Area Teachers Credit Union building, until about 1978, when they sold it to HISD and moved out on 290 where they had built a much larger 12 story building, at the corner of 290 & w.43rd. i used to go into the HISD building fairly often as a child in the 70's, my mother worked there for HATCU. I remember as a child it being very caverness. With lots of earthtones inside. It was the 70's, and the inside of that building's decor screamed it.
  10. I'll tell you about the day I quit giving money to panhandlers, I was at a red light at kirkwood and westheimer. I was between jobs, and literally down to my last few dollars. A bum at the corner knocked on my window, I roll it down, he asks for money, I look down to see I have about $1.00 or so of loose change. I figure i need some good Karma, I scoop all the change and hand it to him, and roll up my window. He knocks on the window again, and says, " I have plenty of change, here." and hands me back the money. I ask him, "Oh, you want the folding kind of money ?" he says, "well, yeah !" I tell him to go "F" himself and throw the change at his feet as the light turns green, I then drive off staring that jackass in the eye. I was completely taken aback by this. This occurred in 1996 or so, and since then, only give "homeless" food, not leftovers or doggybags, I usually buy an extra burger, just in case.
  11. Great, a new place for all the bums to sleep, maybe it'll take them from in front of the Toyota Center.
  12. My new Astros song is gonna be "Tear in my Beer." ....Hank Williams
  13. Any "caucasian" celebrities ever frequent the joint ? Just curious, since it is diverse.
  14. Did they leave the humungous "star of david" in the middle there ?
  15. I tend to agree with that, having lived in Sugarland myself for awhile, I think for the most part, that the affluent Sri Lankan or Hindu population seem to have risen quite considerably in Sugarland though.
  16. I think "boy with a thorn in his side" is more appropriate.
  17. Tee Hee ! I think almost every post I have on here is probably edited, for the simple fact I either forgot something I wanted to say, or something I saw that someone could take the wrong way, and Lord knows I don't need any Cybertuffs threatening to kick my @$$ on here.
  18. Ok, so, we are talking 50's and 60's here, right? Hispanic: Heights and Pasadena Asian: didn't really come into play until the 80's and they took over Sharpstown and Beechnut area. Blacks: Macgregor & 288 over by TSU. Jewish: Meyerland & West U. Caucasian: River Oaks, Memorial
  19. The second gentleman on the right looks little like Matis Yahu, without the big beard.
  20. Well Timmy, we are talking about greasy spoon's here. Kelley's is a one pounder also. I will have to check out Adrian's. My favorite "burger joint" is Shuttleburger over by Hobby airport. I think you could also say it is a "greasy spoon" for the simple fact, there is literally grease on the walls.
  21. I just don't know that River Oaks' racism is a dirty little secret. I think it is pretty much a well known fact that their is alot of "old money" in river Oaks. The new money that is in there is few and far between, and the older folks in there that have had those houses in the family for years and years, more than likely, and are very choosy about who they are going to let move in to their great grandfather's house. i.e. another anglo-saxon, well to do, family. George and Martha aren't going to sell to the new Death row recording artist, to turn their 80 yr. old mansion into "Ghettofabulous !" It is just the way of the world. Sad, but true. This is just an opinion, I think I have a pretty open mind, and do not have tunnelvision of how our society has shaped itself.
