  1. A couple concerns: I haven't yet figured out how to use BBCode when writing posts. Or is that no longer allowed? When running on a widescreen monitor (I run at 1920x1200), there are now large gaps on either sides of the content, making the photos much smaller than they were before. Please consider giving us an option of changing the style so we aren't forced to have such giant margins (this isn't a concern at lower resolutions, as unless your screen is over ~1400 pixels wide you won't even see any margins).
  2. They are now building the construction elevator:
  3. Lots more digging today, with a near-continuous line of dump trucks hauling out fill. They are making quite the racket, audible from 20 stories up and a few blocks away!
  4. Haven't walked by lately to get a closeup, but they've been doing what looks like drilling for foundation piers for the last couple weeks, so construction is well under way:
  5. They dug a lot today. Pulled out remains of an old foundation:
  6. There's still a vacant space almost next door, just between S&T and Lone Star Taco in the Binz Building, which is partially visible in your photo. It's not a big space but it's also on the east side of the 500 block.
  7. Finally some glass installed on four lower floors of the original building, too:
  8. Still working on the brick, some of the mast climbers have been removed, and the link to the garage is now above ground:
  9. Not that fall protection will do much good when the thing they are tethered to falls down... But more seriously, I've been watching the work on the old Texaco building. Workers regularly walk on the edge of the roof, outside the railing, nearly 20 stories up, without attaching their harness to anything. I noticed it again on Thursday. I just don't understand -- do all these construction workers have death wishes?
  10. I'm glad it's still standing, but surely its days are numbered:
  11. They've now started work on the rooftop patio/pool:
  12. Bus 82 is quite busy, too; I believe they are increasing its frequency to every 6 minutes at peak times to try to handle the ridership.
  13. I agree. We could call it the Cathedral District, unless people might confuse the Co-Cathedral with the Christ Church Cathedral on the other side of downtown.
  14. Sorry for the potato-quality photo, but they've already started beautifying this corner. A month or so ago they put this mural up diagonally across the street, on the old Battlestein's build (next door to the JW Marriott):
  15. That would be amazing, but first we'd need to bury our ubiquitous above-ground power lines that would block its path!
  16. j_cuevas713, Nancy Sarnoff wrote the original article, linked in the first comment, that alerted us to this, so she clearly already knows.
  17. New grandstands, press box, and team facilities. http://news.rice.edu/2015/06/04/rice-to-build-new-soccer-track-and-field-facility/ http://news.rice.edu/2015/06/04/rice-to-build-new-soccer-track-and-field-facility-2/
  18. The Dunlavy is looking really nice tonight. Wish they'd light it up this well every night!
  19. They have now closed off the sidewalks and lanes adjacent to the building in preparation for construction: The ten 55-gallon drums (not visible; behind the van in the photo) appear to be from soil testing of the adjacent parking lot. They are labeled "soil cuttings" and "IDW purge water".
