  1. I've walked by this in person many times. On the few floors where they have restored the tiles, I think they look great. Very appropriate for the period. The unrestored ones obviously look pretty awful, of course.
  2. Off-topic, but: 1. Go to http://imgur.com 2. Drag and drop your image file onto the middle of the screen there and it will upload automatically. If your browser doesn't support this, click the New Post button at the top and then click the Browse button and find your image. 3. Right-click on the displayed image and choose "Copy Image Location" (in Firefox) or "Copy image address" (in Chrome) to copy the image URL (it will be something like http://i.imgur.com/XXXXXXXX.jpg). The menu item may be labeled slightly differently in other browsers. 4. Paste the URL into a post here. It will automatically be embedded in your post after a couple seconds.
  3. For the benefit of bobruss and everyone else, here's a quote of Urbannizer's original announcement of what we should have gotten instead:
  4. Here's a photo of the demolition as of last night. I apologize for the poor quality, but I took it from a moving train:
  5. You're right. I just confirmed with a photo from last week that it is now one segment taller. They have now removed the segment that they were using to raise it.
  6. The rooftop patio is looking great, with a new TPO roof and most of the pavers installed, but I would definitely not want to swim in that pool right now!
  7. They're doing something with the crane. It seems too early to take it down (I believe they still have some concrete pouring to do on the top level due to the rebar poking out), but it seems tall enough to not need raising, either, so I'm not sure what's going on.
  8. Scary ladder positioning on the 17th floor. Lots of new glass has been installed.
  9. The proposed tower would go over the area with steel on it already, so this side only needs to support a relatively lightweight parking garage. I assume the white we see here is just the layer to cover the dirt that goes down before putting down the rebar for the slab, but it won't need to be anywhere near as beefy as the concrete poured on the other side.
  10. As I recall from talking to one of the guys working on the tunnel at 609 Main, they abandoned the tunnel between 609 and the Magnolia so as nice as that would be, I don't think that tunnel will reopen.
  11. Looks like they are back to taking soil samples again in the adjacent parking lot. They were actively drilling in one corner and have another section of the lot coned off for additional samples. These are both different corners from where they were taking soil samples last time (last year if I remember right). Wonder if the rumors of a parking garage going here still have merit?
  12. Hasn't quite topped out yet. The last floor appears to have been poured, but there is still rebar poking out of the south corner for the last wall:
  13. Finally the last set of windows is going in. Looks great!
  14. No, it looks like they might be adding even more surface parking, but also, the long term goal (2035) is to build an underground parking garage with trees and grass and stuff on top of it to provide more parking.
  15. This claims that construction has begun on the residential tower, too, but that it will only be 35 stories. Not sure if that's an error or if it's been downsized. http://www.multifamilybiz.com/News/7038/Greystar_Begins_Construction_on_35Story_Latitude_M...
  16. Structural steel going up! Guess the concrete has reached its peak now.
  17. More progress on the back side. Slow but steady. They finally put a nice green metal roof on the mechanical penthouse last week too, and are finally putting the white TPO roof on the older building (about half done at present).
  18. Amazing that it has been almost 12 years since this thread was started. That's a lot of boom/bust cycles to go through with no progress.
  19. Seen on reddit /r/houston from /u/jb4647:
  20. December 5th had a low of 44 and a high of 68, with the temperature being above 60 from 11am to 6:30pm, so it seems everyone in the photo just overdressed.
