  1. ...really hoping mfaH reveals some plans soon. That will lighten things up a bit.
  2. A very cool, boutique hotel is almost it's only hope. Hotel Alassandra sounds like a likely and good fit. A strengthening of the brand can only help a houston property. Drink your juice Monarch. It's all going to be okay. Sh sh shhhh.
  3. Tonga Room at Fairmont/Nob Hill. A Tiki Palace. ;-)
  4. I remember noticing that the Room Tower cantilevers a bit out from the podium. So...I'm sure that it is slanted for a good reason.
  5. Agree with montrose. Would fiit well with the skyline...But, at an expense with the streetscape. Last in my preference for proposed office towers. Hotel/residential/mixed use much better here. Especially combined with Chronicle's old place just behind.
  6. Work in front of GRB is definitely underway. Avenue of the Americas is closed down and getting ripped up. This will be an interesting one to watch.
  7. Access is best at Guadalupe Park at Jensen Bridge or Tony Moran Park on York. To go west from Jensen cross the bridge to the north side of the bayou. The fall colors now are spectacular now.
  8. Bobruss. The 73 townhomes will roughly be where "Live Oak Place" is located. That conceptual plan by BBP is from 2002. It would be amazing if the whole bayou could be "restored" like the concept. But...let's be realistic. That is mostly private commercial/industrial property. Some of it will be converted to public green space, like where is Silos are. But,unless, whole hell of a lot of money as added to the BBP partnership's budget the entirety of the concept cannot expected to come true. At least not in the foreseeable future anway. DNA - Have you been over to the Bayou around there? It is really nice. BBP has been working on it for a long time and continues to do so.
  9. Very interesting, wild, beautiful yet area with urban/industrial elements. The Bayou along there is amazing. Very excited about this one. I think that Navigation at Jensen and possibly York will have traffic circles installed soon too. I hope that the developers work sensitively with the Latin neighborhood leaders of the 2nd Ward. This are could continue to have a very unique atmosphere.
  10. Me thinks that there will not be primary views facing east. Bet the elevator shafts/stairwells run up the back side, specially for this reason.
  11. Nope, kitten. I am a Continental misser. That was a far better airline. Especially the ff program...of which COPA is bailing on. Who can blame them!
  12. Spirit just may be the new Southwest. If it's not Spirit. It'll be someone else.
  13. I care and we all should. I hate flying Spirit. But, I am not going to say that I won't do it again. Anything that challenges United's pricing...we should all appreciate. More traffic for the airport is also something to be happy about.
  14. Have a friend who's house backs up to Kuhlman Gully to the SW of Breas Bayou. He says that there are workers clearding overgrowth along the north bank of the waterway. This is a pretty cool and wild area, but pretty removed from much access. My friend checked with the Flood Control District, and was told that it wasn't them doing the work. I see that UH had done some studies. Anyway...does anyone know what is going on, or what is in the works? The Gully does connect nicely from Palm Center to Breas. Would make a great bike/ped corridor.
  15. My bad. I thought thesr were going where Little Bigs was. Bigs, and the Chinese place previous to Bigs, do have good Montrose History. But, South Beach's old parking lot may just as well be filled up with high end Townhomes. It seems like the only alternative.
  16. "The City" turned down a deal? I can see how the city can enocourage development and even discourage other types of development. But how could the city turn down a development on private property? Or does the city own the Sakowitz building? When you talk about "The City" who are you referring to?
  17. Thanks Nena. A thoughtful post and well stated point of view. We don't get much of that on this site anymore it seems. It's like a whole new internet. I too believe that this particular project, of which I was very skeptical of, seems to be turning out better than I expected.
