hindesky
This article isn't technically about this project but it is right next to it. "A toxic ash heap on land near Buffalo Bayou in Second Ward that once housed city incinerators could be cleaned up and turned into a park under a plan approved by City Council Wednesday. Councilmembers unanimously voted to transfer the Velasco Street incinerator site from the city to the Houston Land Bank to allow the government-affiliated nonprofit to seek federal clean-up funds. The land bank said it will need millions of dollars to remediate the site, which is piled with up to 35 feet of ash from incinerators that burned Houston trash for decades." https://houstonlanding.org/houston-approves-plan-to-clean-toxic-ash-dump-near-buffalo-bayou-for-new-public-park/

EastwoodEnvoy
Looks like Whitmire is trying to kill this project... https://www.fox26houston.com/news/houston-mayor-calls-for-termination-of-controversial-east-side-housing-project Quote Bottom-line - the Housing Authority misrepresented to state and federal agencies not only the size of the tower. But also the so-called potential "fall-zone." In other words, were it to collapse, the antenna could smash directly into 800 Middle Street. Quote Literally surrounded by toxic ash landfills and a lead contaminated state superfund site, Whitmire views the 800 Middle Street development as a dangerous boondoggle deserving of termination. "We are doing everything we can, working with legal to see if we could put a halt to it," said Whitmire. 3

Ross
Mayor Whitmire is calling for cancellation of the project, which is embroiled in controversy due to the radio tower that could hit the development if it fell https://www.fox26houston.com/news/houston-mayor-calls-for-termination-of-controversial-east-side-housing-project Oops, didn't notice this has already been mentioned in a previous post. strickn
I mean, we already know that Houston gets tactically nuked in Independence Day, so a radio tower here and there is immaterial. 1

hindesky
The homeless would love for Whitmire to shut this down, they would take it over in seconds, fence or no fence they would find a way to get in. They get food at the Catholic Charities just down the street almost daily. NRP Group is getting paid no matter what he decides.
