Urbannizer Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 What was this before it came to be a parking lot? The description mentions an explosion occurred here. July 1986 Downtown Houston by ArchNME610, on Flickr 4 Quote
Nate99 Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Also - looks like they are closing off the adjacent lot (and a lane on Fannin) for the garage build... 1 Quote
rechlin Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Yesterday they fenced off the parking lot. Today they started taking down the canopies and power-washing the graffiti off the side of the building. Looks like the garage might be about to go up! 2 Quote
nate4l1f3 Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 What were the details on the garage again? Quote

Random Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Today I noticed the parking lot at Franklin and Rusk (adjacent to Le Meridien) was fenced off and the ground was being torn up. Any idea what they're doing there? Quote
Urbannizer Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 On page one and nearly the exact same thread title Quote
rechlin Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Canopies are now all gone and pavement is being removed. I may have to set up a second webcam to monitor this too! 4 Quote

The facility owner will be Regency Main Parking LLC of Houston. The project site is directly beside the Central Station Capitol EB (Red Line) light rail on Rusk Street. There is already a multi-story parking garage immediately adjacent to the project site; that is the 1110 Rusk Garage. For what it's worth, "Regency Main" is the entity to whom tenants in 712 Main/The Jones cut their rent checks. I'm speculating they are building the garage to provide tenant parking. 2 Quote

It will have its own Rush hour for the upper floors. my word, if you park in 13, it will take longer to get to the street than from the street to your hypothetical house in the heights!!! Quote
rechlin Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 They've dug it down pretty far, exposing some old basements, photo taken yesterday: And today they started drilling some piers or something and putting in some concrete: 5 Quote
rechlin Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Looks like this garage is getting a subgrade floor. In the upper right corner, they've already excavated a dozen feet or so, put a thin concrete layer on the dirt, and are now prepping rebar for the foundation. They are continuing excavating to this level elsewhere, so it doesn't appear to just be for a crane base. The holes they drilled a week ago have now mostly been filled with steel beams that are 20 or more feet long (some, mostly longer ones, are seen on the left side), with the wood attached to them to hold dirt back as they continue to dig. 4 Quote
urbanize713 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 anyone able to find renderings on this? Quote
rechlin Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 I have added another webcam, so this one will monitor the construction of the garage, with a photo taken every 5 minutes or so. You can view it here: http://webcam.rechlin.net/garage/ Sample image from today: 5 Quote
hindesky Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 Asked a worker about this site and he said it will be a 13 story precast using a crawler crane to construct it since tower cranes don't have the capacity to handle the precast pieces. 5 Quote
rechlin Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 They are almost done pouring the foundation, and now for whatever reason they covered it back up with dirt. Also, they are finally above ground level now: 4 Quote

cspwal Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Are those retail spots along Fannin? Also that block next to the train platform is going to be such a dead block. Any ideas on what the city/downtown management district could do to liven it up? 4 Quote
Texasota Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 well, the opposite block face will be fine. That's the real shame to me. One side if the street will be one of the nicest buildings in the city; the other side will be ...this. Hopefully those are at least retail spots though. 3 Quote
H-Town Man Posted December 14, 2017 Posted December 14, 2017 If driverless cars ever really live up to their promise, this block could be a great redevelopment opportunity. Until then it's a turd in the swimming pool, except for the Meridien. 2 Quote
hindesky Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 The crawler crane is being assembled to install the precast pieces. 3 Quote
