From an article today in Papercity Magazine: "River Oaks Shopping Center is hopping with restaurant news not the least of which is that the much beloved La Griglia, part of the Landry’s empire, is losing its lease at the end of the year. We are told that Kimco Realty Corp., which bought the posh shopping center from Weingarten Realty Investors, may have either refused to renew the La Griglia lease or was contractually prohibited from a renewal perhaps due to a longstanding feud between Landry’s and Weingarten. There are several versions of this unconfirmed situation. Whatever the case is, La Griglia is leaving." https://www.papercitymag.com/restaurants/houston-restaurant-buzz-park-house-location-brasserie-19-patio-fight-ciel On 5/21/2023 at 5:48 AM, IntheKnowHouston said: La Griglia is likely closing its location at River Oaks Shopping Center soon. Last year, a Papercity article noted the Landry-owned restaurant's lease would not be renewed. The article noted, "Houston billionaire Tilman Fertitta and Landry’s are researching other locations in the choice River Oaks/Montrose neighborhood for a new foothold." While La Griglia is leaving its longtime home at 2002 W Gray St (2002 West Gray St), it will relocate nearby. The Landry Inc-owned Italian restaurant acknowledges the closing of its 2002 W Gray St location in a statement today. According to a CultureMap article published today, La Griglia's last day is Saturday, November 4. As noted in a post from May, La Griglia is relocating to Harlow District. It's moving into the former Nino's space at 2817 W Dallas St (2817 West Dallas St). Kimco Realty supposedly has a tenant lined up to replace La Griglia: Goode Co. Kitchen & Cantina. hindesky
"Way back in May, Culinary Khancepts, the new operators of Houston's last remaining vintage movie theater, announced that the shuttered venue might reopen by the end of 2023. Now we're coming up on Christmas, and it still doesn't look like anyone should be planning to spend their holidays watching the latest releases at a renovated theater. McNamara says Culinary Khancepts is in the midst of applying for national historic designation for the theater and has already received state historic designation. "This is good news, but it's part of what's made waiting kind of harder," she says. "With national historic designation, you're able to not just have greater protections for the building, but you're also able to apply for tax credits for the parts of the restoration that are preservation related. That is a really big deal for the theater, obviously. It's one of the things that helps make the theater a stronger success over time." Bottom line: There's still no word on an opening date." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/entertainment/movies_tv/article/river-oaks-theatre-construction-18492193.php

The project will also include new exterior signage and patio furniture, which is not included in this submission. Below are additional details included in a letter to the Houston Archeological and Historical Commission. Browne McGregor Architects submitted the letter with the certificate of appropriation application. The architecture firm as work with Goode Company on other restaurants. The one-story restaurant building at 2002 W Gray St in the River Oaks Shopping Center is currently vacant, and the incoming tenant, Goode Co Kitchen & Cantina, proposes several alterations to the exterior of the building. The existing conditions include painted EIFS (stucco), wood windows and doors, black glazed ceramic tile, and metal awnings and fascia/trim. Site accessories include decorative wrought iron fencing, light fixtures, outdoor fire pits, and a water feature on the dining patio. The existing building's EIFS finish needs a fresh coat of paint, and the wood doors and windows have begun to deteriorate in some places. The existing conditions appear to be primarily original to the building, with the exception of the dining patio, which was added in 2009. The proposed alterations include repainting the existing EIFS/Stucco finish to match the existing "River Oaks White" color, replacement of the front and side entrance awnings, repainting the existing patio awning structure, adding new light fixtures, replacing all exterior windows and doors, adding new storefront windows at the main entrance, removing portions of the existing glazed ceramic tile, replacing the decorative wrought iron fence around the dining patio, and replacing metal trim and fascia. The plans also include the addition of a sunshade structure (pergola) on the dining patio. https://cohweb.houstontx.gov/hpt/ViewApp_Public.aspx?AppID=njqpeqgkssg%3d Proposed rendering Tex-Mex restaurant Goode Co. gene
all the barricades are down in front of the River Oaks Theater and they have completely redone the concrete entry/patio, sidewalks and even a concrete path/sidewalk for the disabled...looks really nice so far! Hoping for an early summer opening...crossing fingers because i really am excited to see what they do with this place! Just FYi: taken from Houston Chronicle Nov 16, 2023 So what's up with the River Oaks Theatre? Way back in May, Culinary Khancepts, the new operators of Houston's last remaining vintage movie theater, announced that the shuttered venue might reopen by the end of 2023. Now we're coming up on Christmas, and it still doesn't look like anyone should be planning to spend their holidays watching the latest releases at a renovated theater. But anyone who has driven by lately has seen new construction fencing surrounding the building at 2009 W. Gray, while the marquee has been partially dismantled. According to Maureen McNamara, co-founder/director of the nonprofit Friends of the River Oaks Theatre, everything is still moving forward. "I got a text from a friend of mine who just asked me what was happening with the River Oaks and said it looks like they've demolished the marquee. Actually … they are taking everything down to rebuild it," she said. "That's part of the restoration process that the sign company is doing. So, they're doing a full front-facing restoration of all the metal panels, all the letters and the neon, and all of that." McNamara says Culinary Khancepts is in the midst of applying for national historic designation for the theater and has already received state historic designation. "This is good news, but it's part of what's made waiting kind of harder," she says. "With national historic designation, you're able to not just have greater protections for the building, but you're also able to apply for tax credits for the parts of the restoration that are preservation related. That is a really big deal for the theater, obviously. It's one of the things that helps make the theater a stronger success over time."
