BigFootsSocks
Hey guys I've gone ahead and taken the liberty of compiling a list of things that look uglier than this in order to hopefully put to rest all the pointless arguments that just clog up this thread:Yep that's nothing. Literally nothing is uglier than this pile of vomit. Anyone who has positive opinions on this is wrong. F uck this looks terrible.
democide
Alright, let's hope we can see a 3D rendering of this tower later on, hopefully with the skyline in the background, and see how that looks.
cloud713
There are enough people on this forum well versed with that type of thing who could probably easily whip is up one of those. Who did the future skyline 2017 sketch up?And there are plenty of other buildings uglier than this. Is it mediocre? Well yeah.. But as someone pointed out, most of manhattans skyline is mediocre. It's the density and height that are impressive. This building will add to both densify and height in the northern portion of downtown.. I'm surprised there is so much hate for the new possible tallest residential tower in downtown/the city(?). I bet most of the people here would complain if a JP Morgan tower were built today.. (Even with such desire to get another supertall) But without JPM our skyline wouldn't look nearly as powerful. Is 432 Park ave or w/e visually appealing? No, but it's massive height will add to the already impressive ny skyline. They can't all be beauty queens, but a cluster of 4-500 footers on the north side of the downtown skyline will make our skyline even more substantial.. I can do one for DT, but I'm going to need a list of everything going up. There's too much to keep up with. Speaking of, I still don't understand why we're complaining about this. We should be happy that so much is happening around here. Edited March 17, 2014 by Sky-guy

I think it'll really show up from that angle. Also some of the heights of the towers look a little off(609 Main, Chevron too short; International Tower and Texaco Highrise too tall) sorry to nit pick but slight modifications might help better visualize it. This tower would definitely cover up Calpine from this angle I was thinking. Some good density coming though. A google maps 3D image like Channel2news' with 1111 Travis etc would be awesome also! :]

nativehoustonion
Thanks for the effort. What is that blue building in the middle? If that is where Foley's was it does not look like that. 609 Main is now taller than the Bank of America tower. I would remove Steam/Essex because it is dead so is 5 Allen Center.

TOMIKA!
From Bob Eury: Tomika, Thank you for your interest and letting us know of your concerns about the new residential building to the west of Market Square. The project is being developed by BMS, owner of the entire block 35 for many years. Their plans include Market Square Garage which will primarily serve the residents of the new building. In review of the plans the District took into consideration the active ground floor uses on the entire block which includes reuse of the existing retail space along Congress and Milam, new retail space along Preston and the entrance and lobby area. Total retail space in the project is over 22,000 square feet or 35% of the block, and 59% of the block will have active ground floor uses including the retail space. We support the owners' desires to have the front door on Milam Street at the park and have encouraged them on the design of the entry area to make it as open as possible. Adding 600 to 700 new residents from the building to the Market Square neighborhood will be a real boost to pedestrian activity and patronage at existing and new food and beverage establishments and other retail. Best regards,Bob Eury

Best regards,Bob Eury Nice work. this aleviates alot of concerns... right? Also, to me it means the drafts we saw are pretty preliminary. I expect to see a new mock up that is more detailed and acurate sometime before they start. I hope it is even better than the one we saw. Still have high hopes!! cloud713
Wait.. so this building will have its front entrance on MILAM?? how is that so if the garage and the vehicle ramp drive in/out is on the Milam side? or did they completely reorient the garage, and have the tower facing Market Square, instead of facing south like we all assumed? because that archway on the ground floor in the middle of the building sure looks like the front entrance to me, and i always figured that was facing Preston? I think the incline in the drawing is facing the wrong direction for it to be the Milam elevation. Doesn't Milam go downhill as you go north? H-Town Man
Gotta assume the rendering is very preliminary if all this is true. A nice entrance on Market Square is livable; the urban ideal would be a small entrance squeezed among retail, but this is way better than a blank side of a building or a covered driveway.
