  1. Hines is my idol. The only other guy worthy of being called "Mr Houston".
  2. I agree, theres hundreds of 2-5 story buildings in Manhattan, its the density, not the height that counts.Look at San Francisco, we have way more tall buildings than them yet their skyline is widely considered the "larger" and more beautiful one because of all the low rise density and no oceans of parking lots.
  3. Ok boys and girls, after what seemed like forever, they are FINALLY topping this bad boy out, you can see some of the overhang work on the right corner already....
  4. The two will create quite the synergy.Drop the kids off at the park while the parents go shop at Tanger. Ingenious I tells ya.
  5. We are talking about a picture of the skyline of downtown proper, where do you get sprawl from??I mean exactly what I said, and what other posters have clarified for you, I would rather see the downtown skyline grow sideways instead of just a few tall buildings added to the interior of our downtown boundaries. Anyway, I dont know why Im even typing this, you're just trolling.
  6. Nope. The nimbys would not have a case if they cant prove it is illegal for Ashby to build a highrise there, which it is not. The issues of properties values going down, the nimbys not liking that this is being built, the possibility that traffic might increase, etc, are all irrelevant. The only reason they have taken Ashby to court is to discourage them from building by putting up such a huge fight, whining and bitching and dragging things out, using their rich politician friends to create bogus red tape and to cost the developers an untold fortune in legal fees in hopes the developers will decide to just cut their losses and give up. Which aint gonna happen.
  7. Dont know if this was ever built, but since I think green is the future, anything along this vein gets my vote...
  8. So many questions. What kind of homes are the 300 homes? Apartments, high rises, townhomes?
  9. I think our skyline needs to expand horizontally more than vertically.
  10. That was my first thought, they are trying to replicate the success of disco green. Which I dont see anything wrong with, I mean look what disco green has done for that part of downtown. If you were making an urban park wouldnt you model it after DG too? Also its not an EXACT copy, and theyre still in the planning phases, fill out the superblock park survey if you haven't already. Anyhow, I don't wanna seem like I was arguing or correcting you, just my two cents, I know you said it wasnt necessarily a bad thing.
  11. I think the most exciting things in the rendering is the 35 tent "Main Street Tent Market", 35 tents right up to the sidewalk facing Main. Its not ground floor retail in the apartment building but its SOMETHING to generate foot traffic. Again, a minus to that is the park is now on the south side of the block instead of directly catty corner to the McGowan rail platform, I thought that was the point. Or who knows, maybe they didnt want the residents to walk that much further to the rail stop.
  12. Well this is just great. Smart bastards, now I wont be able to drive a kid to Galveston without them seeing THIS along the way and begging me to take them there. At least Kemah is hidden. Location location location...
  13. Heres the site plan. If yall cant expand the image or read the legend, inbox me and I'll share the pdf with you....
  14. My hero Gerald Hines is also a Houston light rail supporter! From a recent interview: Full interview here: http://www.houstoniamag.com/fashion-and-shopping/insiders-guide-to-the-galleria/articles/meet-the-man-who-invented-the-galleria-december-2013 You gotta love this guy, such a pioneer and forward thinker, Houston wouldnt be what it is today without him...
  15. Actually they were supposed to be at Thompson and I-10 where the "We love Houston" sign currently is but David Adickes (the sculptor behind the Beatles statues, the we love houston sign, the presidents heads and the 76 foot tall Sam Houston sculpture in Huntsville) decided they were too tall for that location and went with the we love houston sign instead.
  16. Looks like one of those "this is what could potentially go here", pie in the sky, over the top renderings that never get off the drawing board. I hope to god I'm wrong though.
