  1. I'm sorry, I was just trying to ease your fears.
  2. The rerouting of White Oak to a more eastern connection to Buffalo Bayou, would have no bearing on the Yale street bridge. White Oak bayou would continue to run its same course until it reaches the bypass and some of it's water would continue the confluence with Buffalo Bayou at its original Allens Landing site. This will create a north end island. I also believe that a bridge over the canal might work.
  3. It was great fried chicken and at the time it was one of the main restaurants in Houston, along with the Ye Olde College Inn, and Valians pizza which was across Fannin from the Shamrock. Lee's den was the best Chinese on South Main at OST and right in front of an old trailer park. Needless to say, there weren't a lot of great restaurants around town in the late 50's early sixties. It just goes to show you if you want something enough it can happen. And now we're one of the great food cities in the U.S.
  4. What really looks strange is how vacant the medical center is. This is in the heart of the med center, and you can't see another building. I believe this was either the spot or close to the location of Bill Williams fried chicken restaurant .
  5. The Wayside Parks and Recreation center and adjoining park is really wonderful. I pass by it on the way to Tele Wink diner and Home depot. If you haven't ventured into the diner you should. It's an amazing diner. Such an interesting mix of cultures. Was the Wayside building originally built for Fluor or is that building somewhere else?
  6. That was my concern. I haven't actually seen the live birds, but there are several photographs and eyewitnesses who say they've been there for a long time. Another woman said that they sometimes stayed in a tall pine tree in her yard and she loved that until she saw the side of the house and ground below their roosting area. She said they had to power wash her wall and the dead carcasses of fish and entrails that they dropped were disgusting. She lives across O.S.T. from the area.
  7. Latest update for this site. I saw photographs of a pair of Eagles that have been living on the southeast corner of this tract amongst the dead trees for many years. That would be the spur and OST corner for anyone who might be a birder or just curious about seeing Eagles in Houston. Actually, I saw the Eagles at Rice Stadium back in 94. Sorry different Eagles. The best, was Pink Floyd, at Rice stadium, when a T.Storm was barreling down on the concert from the north. The lightning was really pretty amazing and brought a whole new meaning to special affects. Sorry I digressed. The people that live in the area say that they see them regularly early in the morning sitting up in the tops of the trees.
  8. I picked this thread because it seemed the best place to inform. The brand new, I got it today, Architectural Record has the new Zaha Hadid's Leeza Soho Tower interior shoton the cover, that is simply amazing. If you haven't seen it yet look for it. Spectacular, and makes me sad to know that she will never be able to design one for Houston.
  9. I just drove by it the other day and was amazed to see the Cambria Hotels sign burning brightly. I couldn't believe it opened with little fanfare and we hardly discussed the process. It progressed under our radar.
  10. Ok, that makes sense. Now answer the other part of my comment, since you seem to have all of the answers. How about the streets from Milan to Almeda where the 59 is proposed to go under.
  11. Now that there are two Med center projects occurring on the East side of 288 along south MacGregor, it seems that this will make the huge piece of property once owned by Grocers Supply on 288 and Holcombe more appealing. I noticed that Grocers Supply who actually sold to another supplier a few years ago has completely evacuated the northern warehouses and moved their fleet across the street to their other lots and warehouses. Is there something imminent with the real estate that is going to be announced. I know it has been on the market for a while. It is probably one of the largest tracts of land inside the loop that would make a great mixed use Citi Centre type project with all of the incredible amenities available and the access to the freeway. You have great parks, museums of every variety, golf course. Did I mention they have some hospitals? Close proximity to downtown either via Almeda or 288. Midway are you listening?
  12. I can't imagine how they would do it, without having to shut down the line for a while. I wish someone who knows how these sort of things would be handled would elaborate. This is going to be somewhat of an issue when they take 59 below grade and under the existing rail lines at just about the southern end of the Main street Richmond station also. Not to mention all of the streets like from Milan to Almeda.
  13. I guess because it will be affected by the new Skanska project, and vice versa. It's relevant to its overall look and appeal of Skanska's new development.
  14. Thank you for passing this along. It provides some great insight into what the Buffalo Bayou conservancy is trying to accomplish. I really appreciate the fact that they are trying to open the bayou up to the current residents of the area, and also to add more housing opportunities for the lower and middle class population. Anne Olson has continued to lead this Conservancy and the reclamation of Buffalo Bayou in such a positive manner. She deserves some kind of award. I only hope that they continue to move forward as rapidly as possible. I want to be able to see it come to fruition.
  15. I would imagine that they will go full speed ahead and boots on the ground from now on. Thats how Hanover rolls. They don't sit on anything. They are aggressive and thats what I like about them.
  16. This project looks so good. I love the way they are integrating the development with the bayou. I'm curious though. Will they build phase 1, all at once or will they simply build one building after another. I would think they would want to build out the whole first phase at the same time so there would be a sense of community and public space right off the bat.
  17. Thats why when this development group announces a new project I always cringe. They have fairly decent renderings and then in comes the changes after they receive their funding and the value engineering begins. And they're the stucco kings.
  18. Nestor Topchy, whose wife owns Avant Garden, is one of the main players in this project. He is an artist, who went to the University of Houston for his MFA. He and I were in the 87 graduate program together. He's good friends with another artist entrepreneur named Jim Pirtle who owns Notsuoh on Main. Late night after hours, at Notsuoh, was always interesting. It was his initial concept that started this whole project. He also has a beautiful studio space he built out of old windows from a church that he rescued in the near north side. It was featured in a fashion photo shoot for Paper City, a few months ago. I saw him a few weeks ago and he is still promoting this project and it sounds like they are getting closer.
  19. I agree. It needed a fresh update and I think once the project is complete it will make better sense. That mall has never drawn a crowd. This will be more inviting and open it up to the visitors to downtown. I also see where Subdude is coming from but my hope is that the materials in transition make sense and create an inviting entry to the retail. Only time will tell.
  20. That's, a real shame. This should be under construction already and Montrose Blvd. should be on the design and engineering planning boards now.
  21. In a similar way that Hines is developing The Preston around the Hogg Palace, I would think. Look on the bright side. Maybe they'll cover up the Embassy Suites building.
  22. I think this is a much needed project that addresses several issues. It's hopefully going to provide low cost housing for the seniors. I think it's a great plan to create a community for these elderly Vietnames who will surely enjoy a close network of friends and a means of exercising. Social relations helps keep the elderly healthier. It make great sense. This will open up some housing in areas where they currently reside. I think they considered a lot of issues. The one thing that gives me concern is the fact that they're building a senior citizens residential enclave in the Brays Bayou 500 year flood plain. I hope they have planned for evacuations. Some seniors aren't capable of getting out as quickly as others. All in all, I think this project is a good idea. I just wish it wasn't in the flood plain.
  23. Sorry, I thought this might be like the Hines Texas Tower, where the garage is underneath the tower. My bad. From the renderings I saw on the Market Square thread it looked like the building would be partially built over the garage. I just hadn't paid enough attention when I was down there to notice that only half of the block was covered by the garage. I was just agreeing with you about the potential for 43 to be next.
