Doesn't sound reassuring? They've basically cancelled the entire project after all the hooplah, website, renderings, movies, ground breaking, and even site work. But they can't outright say they've cancelled for how foolish it'll look. Seriously, the is the worst botched project since Metro managed to fumble its designer Central Station, even with funds kicked in by DMD. And Im still pissed about that...

How bout this: Since today is 3:16, fv*k the FAA and their so-called restrictions or recommendations. AND THATS THE BOTTOM LINNNNEEEE, CAUSE STONE COLD SAID SO!

Why can't they just scale it back to the original $40 million dollar version ...they'd only be $7 million off and that version looked better anyways. Why does a glorified visitors center need friggin classrooms anyways. You're not building the damn Museum of Natural Science... talk about over thinking it. Too much added, now it's too expensive. Just dumb...

Im gonna assume this marks the beginning of Main St's reconstruction. Southbound closed from Lamar to Polk. Vehicles blocking the lane in front of 1111 Travis and in front of the Humble Oil building. https://twitter.com/thachadwick/status/575797233452388352

Prominent placement indeed. Since the new church garage will be across Jackson St, I've got no issues with the Foley house's front porch facing the church, forming a mini plaza inbetween. Gives the complex a nice bit of street presence on the Texas Ave side.

Hate to toot my own horn but also these prior observations... FTR no wall up yet, still one continuous space. If it remains, would be around 8000 sq ft. (IIRC, originally was divided into a 6,000 sq ft and 2,000 sq ft retail spaces.

Not sure what to make of it but notice that the sky bridge from Marriott Marquis to GRBCC is also missing and that's definitely happening.- 1,224 replies

I-45 Rebuild (North Houston Highway Improvement Project)

This option is probably no longer in the cards but never seen this rendering - a trenched I-45 rerouted down Houston Ave (along with a deck park over I-10)- 3,370 replies

Gensler's "4 Corners" 2025 master plan. http://www.gensler.com/projects/the-george-r-brown-convention-center Side note - Since Dan Nip's property (rendered here as East End CC Hotel) is now becoming City View Terrace, if a fourth CC hotel were needed, it could actually be done here as part of the expansion, or at Block 100 (owned by Houston First).

I-45 Rebuild (North Houston Highway Improvement Project)
tigereye replied to ToryGattis's topic in Traffic and Transportation
I think the idea is for a double-decker expy - 59 mainlanes below grade (since it's already below grade after Pierce) and 45 mainlanes above grade (allowing for east-west cross streets to still pass through at grade). At pierce, above grade 45 mainlanes would simply curve over to existing southern alignment. I can't imaging trenched side-by-side freeways here as what happens to existing developments like Ballpark Lofts or Dan Nips soon-to-be City View Terrace. I can't imagine the Greater East End Development arm would be happy losing existing developments in favor of a larger barrier freeway, further separating them from Downtown, especially as the GRBCC/Disco Green area booms. So I don't see expansion of site boundaries, rather it'll be a solution maintained within the current boundaries of 59. So to maximize the current site boundaries, maybe the use of cantilevering could allow more room for lanes both below-grade (a la North Central Expy) and above grade, overhanging over the Chartres St side. As for the West side (former Pierce elevated) my personal hope it the eliminate all access ramps that crowd over Buffalo Bayou and only have 1 bridge connecting to Southern Downtown & Midtown - possibly allowing for the opportunity of a beautiful signature bridge over a reinvigorated Buffalo Bayou Park at Downtown's most photogenic spot.- 3,370 replies

GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.
tigereye replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
Id presume by Spring Break as construction is supposed to start in April. As soon as I get deets on demo work, will pass along. -
With all the new construction ongoing Downtown, their kind of at a point where they have to freshen up the complex. All the Art Guys exhibits in the world won't help this complex keep pace. BTW - The Tunnel of Love exhibit was great only to scare folks as they leave lol Like the reno plans. Better street presence.

Since Dallas St construction is starting up now, I'd expect to see signs of construction soon on this. IIRC, both projects schedules were to coincide with each other. https://twitter.com/thachadwick/status/569939298222362624

CenterPoint Energy Plaza: Office Tower At 1111 Louisiana St.
tigereye replied to WestUNative's topic in Downtown
Recently, CNP Tower's floodlight lit crown went dark, replaced with red lighting on the edges. Today, I spotted work ongoing on the crown itself. Anyone know if it's going LED? I'd imagine that's the move since they're more energy efficient than floodlights. If true, this could produce some interesting nighttime lighting. https://twitter.com/thachadwick/status/568201083752824832 -
