  1. Not exactly. IIRC, the districts plan for Avenida De Las Americas was to create dedicated Bus Lanes for drop off on the East side of the median (closer to GRB) while leaving the western portion of the median for vehicular traffic.
  2. Yeah, I question the massing. This site is too narrow for a building that wide in its NE/SW orientation to fit ...unless this hotel spans over Rusk to Capitol.
  3. I know it's only a preliminary rendering, but I would've preferred the NW/SE Tower orientation mirroring Hilton Americas, not the NE/SW orientation depicted.
  4. Thanks to LT, we now know we're lookin at a 7 building that takes up the entire site. I still think its possible the upper units near Preston/Crawford end may get views to atleast the infield & home plate ...but some new advertising signage is now in the way. Almost reminiscent to the Wrigley Rooftop/Tribune Co Battle with Spite Signs. Will be interesting to see if the new advertising at MMP will be moved in light of Marvy's new addition next door.
  5. That view ....could be blocked by these new billboards. But with the ballpark view being a possible selling point to high end units near the top, does Marvy's project have enough clought to convince Crane to dismantle the new billboards in favor of a Wrigley Field-like neighborhood view in left?!?
  6. Here's an idea. A new Reliant Arena isn't needed at all. The Dome could be the new Reliant Arena. And it could be larger or even smaller as well. Ever heard of the Saitama Super Arena?!? It uses movable seating sections which can change the seating capacity from as large as 37,000 seats to small as 9,000 seats. Use the floor for exhibition space as well. A true multipurpose convention & entertainment venue hosing a multitude of events. http://www.saitama-arena.co.jp/e/facility.html
  7. It's funny you mention 13° Celsius. The owners of that place (Ian Rosenberg & Mike Sammons) are opening this area of Midtown's newest spot, "Mongoose vs. Cobra," at 1011 McGowen, directly across the street from Leon's Lounge.
  8. Swamplot chimes in with more details that you CAN read about lol http://swamplot.com/whats-brewing-at-astroworld-chunk-of-former-amusement-park-site-sold-to-unidentified-developer/2012-04-20/
  9. Issue goes to vote on May 16th. http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Council-rips-study-painting-Hobby-expansion-as-3486551.php But it sounds like City Council has been bought off by lobbyists for United But if the mayor was whom set the quick vote date upcoming, doesn't that possibly mean she is in favor of SWA/Hobby International? Could set up an interesting clash at City Hall.
  10. I take it the new skyscraper doesn't remotely resemble the old original Hines proposal?!? This has a garage below but doesnt look like its 48 stories... http://swamplot.com/secret-hines-tower-land-in-hand/2008-05-19/
  11. EDIT: http://houston.culturemap.com/newsdetail/03-15-11-what-recession-hines-plans-another-new-office-tower-at-block-69-for-downtown-houston/ Based on this article last year and the way Hines speaks of the site's potential, my prediction: 50 stories, curved glass curtain wall facade with a crown, ground floor retail with tunnel connection, and on-site garage.
  12. Taking that into consideration, it seems likely that this would be for a big project. You wouldnt pick this conference to unveil a simple 20-story building?!? This seems more like a "Splash" making announcement. And also, if it is indeed the Texas/Capitol/Main lot, I would expect any project Hines does here to have ground floor retail and restaurants due to the site's close proximity to Metro's planned "Central Station" and the convergence of 3 light rail lines.
  13. New Renderings from Lake Flato. http://swamplot.com/a-second-round-of-initial-concepts-for-midtowns-independent-arts-collaborative/2012-02-03/
  14. Would Metro's "Central Station" plans next door possibly help get this project moving?!? A Hines Tower added with Central Station, the new BG Group Tower, and existing development ranging from the Rice Hotel to Main Street Sq & Houston Pavilions suddenly has some potential. Still not sold it could become the grand shopping destination the city envisions, but atleast it will have a more presentable look.
  15. http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2012/01/downtown-restaurants-shutter/ In terms of visibility, it's a loss. While the food quality had obviously deteriorated the last few years, the restaurant itself atleast had the look of a lively spot in Downtown. But atleast we still have Frank's open next door. Now, it's begin speculation on Cabo's replacement. Perhaps another Landry's Seafood joint?!?
  16. I'm not assuring anyone anything. I'm just saying whoever came up with this grand "4 Corners" plan is really just rehashing development plans by others. We all knew about these hotel plans long before this "grand plan" announcement. There's multiple threads on HAIF for the Chinatown & Wyndham hotels respectively. It's like the city now coming in and taking credit for someone else's work. I can hear it now... "hey, look we magically created a Convention District in Downtown Houston" when these hotels were already in development.
  17. The Dallas St Shopping plan is a "big, malleable, long-term idea" but this "Convention District" thing is not that far fetched when you consider 2 of the 3 hotels planned already have developers. We already know the city is looking for developers for the other Disco Green site that mirrors Hilton Americas. Im fairly certain they should get this project off the grand without a Federal bribery scandal this time. But on the other side of the freeway, 2 developers are already in place in Dan Nip (Chinatown Hotel) and Ocean2Ocean (San Antonio-based firm that already demolished the On Leong building for their Wyndham Hotel). I personally feel this "4 Corners" idea wasn't really developed by anyone at all. It's really the same plan they've had all along, just adjusted to include the hotels on the other side of the freeway that were already in planning stages. Remember this rendering from Gensler?!? The only real difference is the new southward expansion of GRBCC ...didn't they just build a new garage on that site?!? And for that other new garage north of GRBCC, isn't MetroRail supposed to take up half of that site as the Southeast line jogs over to Capitol/Rusk from Texas Ave?!?
  18. Republika closed on Nov 22nd. I wonder if all these closing may have anything to do with Camden & the Superblock?!?
  19. Project is called called "La Plaza de Midtown." 6k sq ft of retail on bottom, 4k sq ft of office on 2nd floor, 2 condos totaling 4k sq ft. http://www.bisnow.com/houston_commercial_real_estate_news_story.php?p=7902
  20. Posted it in the "Going Up" forum, sharing here too. Spotted 2 bulldozers at Austin, La Branch, McGowen site where an office/retail project is slated to be built. Construction soon?!?
  21. We may finally have movement on this ...on way home spotted 2 bulldozers on back of site on Austin side of property. Construction soon?!?
  22. Newest Stadium rendering tweeted by Dynamo this afternoon. EDIT: Link to full size - http://twitpic.com/6yy818/full
