  1. A good friend of mine bought the place in February 2009 and we rent in. The home was gutted and completely renovated then (finishing in June of that year). The house kept much of its same classical look, existing wood floors and wall paneling refinished. Supposedly the house was built in 1893 ...or so I've heard. But it's awesome to live in.
  2. I live in that first house (2502 La Branch) with my friends. We ourselves want the property next door to us (one with the MidTown Carwash sign) gone as crack dealers from 3rd Ward usually go into the backyard of that property to handle their business. We've called the cops numerous times on them, as well as let the owner know (whom lives in Austin IIRC) but nothing has ever been done. Until tonight ....cops were on that property, I assume busting up a crack deal. Bout Damn Time. And FTR - I can't wait until that proposed development is built. It will really help the McGowen corridor and take away the bums playground in one single shot.
  3. Not anytime soon, eh?!? 4 months later, it sounds like things may have changed... http://www.houstonrealestateobserver.com/houston-developers-starting-new-office-buildings/
  4. Per InnerLooped yesterday, Elizabeth Glover Park across Austin St from this site will be revitalized and should take a year to complete. So the timing of this info above doesn't suprise me at all ...these projects should really do wonders for revitalizing the lower McGowen corridor. http://innerlooped.com/975/meeting-today-about-a-new-park-in-midtown/
  5. One more question to consider: How does this "suddenly alive" proposed Convention Center Hotel impact the city's plans for yet another convention center hotel directly across Disco Green from Hilton America's?!? Lets not forget that the city put Hilton America's up for sale in order to subsidize construction of the new hotel. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/5700711.html And as if that isnt enough, it looks like The East End hotel people are planning for construction of the 2nd Downtown GRB hotel ....see render below. (from their updated PDF) What's that building across Disco Green from Hilton America's? EDIT: This isnt the first time the 2nd Convention Center Hotel has been seen. (Remember this thread?!?) But interestingly enough, both renders (above & below) illustrate virtually the same exact building, right down to the placement of the pool in the hotel....
  6. There was another old thread on this that had street-level views of this same proposal, a more asian-themed hotel. I really loved those renders in that thread.... Ive searched both East End, Going Up, and Downtown forums but cant seem to locate the old thread. Anyone recall this? If found, please repost!
  7. Not exactly a new proposal, was discussed about 2 years ago with some crazy renders. Topic's alive again... http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/20203-convention-center-hotel-east-of-59/page__gopid__380124#entry380124
  8. Hate to raise the dead but according to Swamplot, this very same project (w/Lee Brown as chairman) is all of a sudden alive ...and picking up steam. http://swamplot.com/mayor-to-mayor-parker-indicates-browns-east-downtown-green-card-hotel-project-would-qualify-for-tax-breaks/2011-02-11/#more-25804
  9. Ummm ....I think NOT. UPDATE: Stadium is on the city council's agenda for Wednesday and will likely be approved due to the county already giving its thumb's up last week. http://www.houstontx.gov/citysec/agenda.html
  10. You can't really judge the quality of the venue by costs alone as that variable can affected in so many ways with just where the location is. For instance, At $120 million dollars, Philly paid more for their new venue then the the Dynamo will pay for their new digs in the East End. But if you were too look at each stadium's design and amenities respectively, you'd see the Houston clearly is getting the better venue of the two, for a cheaper price.
  11. They heard you! Tonight, the disco-strobe show is back in full galore ....but like H-Town rap music, it's screw'd. Colors now slowly fade into each other. Looks beautiful! I'm beinning to wonder if all the colorful lighting atop buildings in TMC may have persuaded Wells Fargo to go Disco. And I'm really wondering if this leads to other Downtown buildings lighting up in new ways in reponse to this. Could Wells Fargo be the first domino to fall in making this thread's wish come true?!?
  12. And just for good measure, here's the evolution of the Dynamo Stadiums design, from beginning conceptual stage to the final render... Early Concept... Second Stage... The Final Result
  13. Not sure what you are referring to.... this below is just a structural model of the same rendering you replied to. And that is the final plan. Render of Final Plans: Structural Model and cutaway: Besides, if you want to see a "monstrosity of the blandest propotions," look no further then the future home of the San Jose Earthquakes.
  14. They've since been removed all the plan drawings, but here's the Manhattan Construction link... username: mcg\houston password: houston https://planroom.manhattanconstruction.com/SiteDirectory/Manhattan_Houston/Jobs%20Bidding/Forms/Default%20View.aspx?RootFolder=%2fSiteDirectory%2fManhattan%5fHouston%2fJobs%20Bidding%2fHouston%20Dynamo%20Stadium&FolderCTID=0x0120007CC36E994D0E694EAB4EB97A00166254
  15. Considering what most MLS venues look like, I'd say the Dynamo are getting an architectural statement. Pizza Hut Park - Dallas BMO Field - Toronto PPL Park (just opened last year) - Philadelphia New Dynamo Digs....
  16. Architectural drawings were found on Manhattan Construction's work page for Dynamo Park.
  17. In regards to EaDo Promenade, Canetti briefly mentioned he is part of a committee pushing to get this project built. Never knew that ...but I guess it helps.
  18. NEWS: Dynamo CO Chris Canetti was just on radio with Glenn Davis, stated following: A. Stadium target date opening April 5, 2012 B. Dynamo like play first 2 weeks on road, the open stadium C. 34 suites, all located a mere 8 rows from field. (As I alluded to earlier, in rendering, suites are sandwiched in between upper & lower decks. This design likely makes lower bowl sideline seats the club seating section. Think Toyota Center) D. TRIZ documents, which has already been agreed upon, have to be signed by city & county. Formal agreements should be done by Wednesday afternoon.
  19. Given the fact that the Dynamo are printing flyers and Metro is rerouting bus lines in the area of the stadium, I'd say there is a chance someone knows that the TRIZ will be approved...
  20. It may be time to move this to the "Going Up" forum! According to sources on BigSoccer that are close to the team's Front Office, ground breaking will take place on Saturday, January 29th. Then there's this from Metro to add fuel to the fire... And here's fresh Stadium Renderings of what is likely the final renders, which shows a covered supporters side on the south end, sideline suites in the middle of the full 360° bowl (zoom in close, you'll see the boxes), the scoreboard on the north end, and the elimination of the tower lights on the corners that we've seen in previous renders. Lighting will now likely be tucked under the sideline canopies... Enjoy!
  21. On what station did you hear this? At this point in the game, I'm thinking construction could actually kickoff even sooner than that....
  22. ANSWER: It will be further back near the other highrises The site is the Northeast corner of Greenspoint Mall on the site of what was JC Penney by the intersection of Greenspoint Dr and Greens Rd. JC Penney is currently being demolished to make way for the building and a movie theater in between the mall and the office building.
