  1. Not a restaurant, but Sig's Lagoon has tiki inspired knick-knacks and Tiki Magazine!!
  2. groovehouse

    Wine

Spec's in Midtown on Smith is where it's at.
  3. I've never had a bad experience at Mai's, the food is always good and I don't have a problem with the staff. On the other hand, the last time (final time) I went to Van Loc the place reeked of magnolia air freshener which made me queasy and the food was just not that good.
  4. What's in the usual rotation? Are you looking for inexpensive eats, a nice sit-down restaurant or something upscale? What part of town are you in? Here's a great place to start and you can search by zip code http://www.b4-u-eat.com
  5. I just heard that Cactus Music is going to re-open off of S. Shepherd across from The Stags Head Pub in the old Tae Bo building... it's inbetween Richmond and where S. Shepherd curves around the Whataburger before 59. Anyone heard about this??
  6. Bit of excitement today at Whole Foods on Kirby... an unknown device, about the size of a garage door opener with blinking lights was found in the women's restroom. The device was handed to store security who took it outside and notified HPD. HPD showed up and demolished the device on site by putting it in a containment tube and blowing it up. The device itself wasn't explosive and appears to have been a prank.
  7. I need some help. I post regularly at a website called citynoise. It's a very cool website of photos and posts about where you live. Here's their description from their site: Houston was recently ranked 5th in top cities by number of posts. I am constanly in competition for the 5th spot by the Canadians in Montreal, Quebec and this is where I need your help. I need folks to post more pictures and stories about Houston!! Citynoise will host your images for you, all you need to do is upload them (follow the rules please, no images wider than 600 pixels), add a title and be sure to place "Houston, Tx" in the location (without quotes). I'm sure with your help, we can get Houston back in the 5th spot and push Quebec further back! Now, we don't need to flood or inundate this site, but if you have a great picture and a story or description that can go along with it, your help is greatly appreciated. This is not a competition by any means, I just want more folks to post Houston stuff so we can keep our city on their frontpage! Visit their site, look around and get a general feel for the site, then upload a photo or two! You can see all my posts here to get an idea of what I post. You can browse other cities and other authors to get a feel for what they post. Let's keep Houston on their homepage!
  8. Excellent suggestion Filio! Love the phone number exchange idea!
  9. Wow! Thanks... those are awesome! A friend told me that prior to the 70's Houston was quite a mecca for the psychedelic scene before moving on to places like San Francisco. The 13th Floor Elevators led the way and apparently HPD and others made sure that, their crowd were gently (and not so gently) forced on their way to new meccas. It's nice to see that some of them stayed behind!
  10. "mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce!! wooooooo-ooooooooooo!!" Hell yes, I'll stay with GEICO for another 6+ years! When tropical storm Allison dumped a bajillion gallons of water on the city and flooded out the streets behind my place of employment, including my car, GEICO had it towed to my dealership, had an adjustor out there the same day, quoted my damages, got my car fixed and had it back to me before the flood waters could recede... and now Little Richard singing about thanksgiving dinner!??!?! Keep me signed up!! woooooooo-oooooooooo!!!
  11. When I used them they were a one-person operation. Just the guy, Mr. Fox (I can't remember his first name) - if they have a "group" of inspectors, then that's new. But I will say this, the logo is the same, maybe by group he includes his termite inspectors, etc... I can't vouch for the "new" Fox Inspection Group. I would hope it's the same guy with a new name. Good luck.
  12. Hey Pap, please don't take our comments personally. You may work for the company but unless you are the owner, you're just an employee and should learn to take criticism of your company. It's not worth your stress levels, especially from a few folks on a message board. It's good you are passionate, but the energy you are expending on defending you company could be used creatively in your place of employment. Take a deep breath, sit back and just soak it up. Folks are gonna dog this buyout for a while, anytime a small company is bought out by a bigger one, there's gonna be an uproar. My main concern is food quality. Will MB and MRI continue to order MB food from their original suppliers or will MRI just bring in cheap, Sysco like knock-offs? You are right, until we try the new food, we can't really comment except based on our previous experiences with other MRI companies. FWIW, I was in MB last week and the food was still the same, but the employees are grumbling and there were some contractors in there already measuring out stuff for new changes!
  13. Fans of World of Warcraft live there! LOL!!
  14. Honestly though, how often does anyone do that? I don't think this is proof that their 15 minutes of fame is up...They pack them in for lunch! I think it's proof that the owner wanted out, for whatever reason....and wanted out pretty bad to sell for only $75,000.
  15. Aw hell... this can't bode well. Please don't f*** up Mission Burritos, MRI.
  16. I have used Fox Inspections in the past (on my Heights home as a matter of fact) and I just want to say that, that man is not afraid to get dirty. He donned a pullover jumpsuit and got under the house and went to town. He found some unusual things under there and reported them. Of course, he didn't only check under the house, he got up in crawl spaces and basically did as he was supposed to, inspect everything! He is thorough and professional. I can't recommend him enough. Back when I got the house inspected he would type up everything in a Word document with digital images that proved invaluable. I had a hard copy and a digital copy which made researching things so much easier. I know there are a lot of other house inspectors out there, but of the 2 I have used in the past and the one I witnessed (as a seller) Fox was the most thorough and knowledgeable. Good luck.
  17. it's either this or putting together Nikes with toxic glues and plastics!?
  18. This is what I thought it was... or a house of ill repute. There's also another house on Sage in between Woodway and San Felipe, that I think does the same thing. It's a nice brick house, but it has green shutters and they are always closed and there are always a bunch of cars in the yard.
  19. 1980 Honda Civic - just like this one! Awesome car, it had over 300,000 miles on it and was still running when I sold it to my cousin, who failed to keep oil in it and it eventually died way too soon. It still had at least another 50 - 100,000 miles of life in it!
  20. ads? What ads...with Firefox, Adblock and Flashblock, I don't see them!
  21. Well, well, well... I stand corrected!! My apologies to the kids over at the Hands Up Houston message board! They scooped us! Historic theater could soon fade into history (link to Chron.com}
  22. Time to tear the dome down. It served its purpose and now it's time to go.
